Where is the fucking justice for Trayvon Martin? a 17 year old INNOCENT CHILD shot to death simply because he was walking in his father's gated community.

Why in gods hell has that MURDERER not been arrested?

Are they looking for riots? they will happen if Zimmerman is not brought to justice. I am so sickened by this.

I wouldn't be surprised if you haven't heard this story yet - very slow in reporting it.

He was begging for his life': Family's anger as police finally play 911 calls made by neighborhood watch captain who shot black teen

Trayvon Martin,17, was shot dead by George Zimmerman, 28, last month, who claims the killing was self defense and has not been charged
Police finally gave into mounting pressure on Friday and released eight 911 calls
The teen's family say the calls show Zimmerman was the 'aggressor' not Trayvon

The police have finally released the 911 calls made in relation to the killing of an unarmed black teenager who was shot by a white neighborhood watch captain.

George Zimmerman, 28, had called 911 to report a suspicious man and can be heard pursuing Trayvon Martin, 17, on foot against the dispatcher's advice causing the teen to run away.
Moments later the police are bombarded with calls from terrified neighbors as a voice in the background can be heard desperately screaming for help before the sound of two gun shots.
When police arrived at Florida's Retreat at Twin Lakes Townhomes they found Trayvon, who had been returning from a store with candy for his younger brother, had been shot dead by Zimmerman.

Trayvon Martin, 17, left, was killed by George Zimmerman, 28, right, after the neighborhood watch captain pursued him as walked in a gated community

Zimmerman had called 911 after spotting the teen walking through the gated community.
'This guy looks like he is up to no good. He is on drugs or something,' Zimmerman told the dispatcher from his SUV.
He added that the black teen had his hand in his waistband and was walking around looking at homes.

'These a---. They always get away,' Zimmerman said on a 911 call.
During Zimmerman's initial call, he told the dispatcher he was following Martin and the dispatcher told him, 'You don't need to do that.'
But Zimmerman sounds as if he continues to pursue the teen saying: 'He ran.'

In Zimmerman's 911 call he said Martin, pictured, looked like he 'up to no good' and on drugs as the teen returned home with skittles for his brother
He then refuses to meet police officers at an agreed location and asks for them to call him on arrival instead so he can tell them where he is.
Sanford police officials, who have not charged Zimmerman after accepting his claim that his actions were in self defense, finally released eight 911 calls on Friday after mounting pressure.
Martin's family had demanded the release of the calls to help better understand how Martin died while walking home from a convenience store last month.
'He was yelling for help, and no one could help him. He saw his life being taken away from him,' the teen's father Tracy Martin said.
He said they will continue pushing for charges to be filed against Zimmerman.
'We?re hoping this doesn?t happen again to another family, and that America opens their eyes ... even though this won?t bring Trayvon back,
we don?t want there to be another Trayvon,' Mr Martin said.

The teenager's parents; mother Sabrina Fulton, right, and father Tracy Martin, left, are said to be devastated after hearing the 911 calls of their son's last moments

Benjamin Crump, the attorney for Martin's family, said that the 911 calls show that the teenager spent the last few moments of his life terrified and Zimmerman should be charged
After listening to recordings of 911 calls, Martin's family said they're more convinced than ever that the Zimmerman should be charged with a crime.
'You hear a shot, a clear shot, then you hear a 17-year-old boy begging for his life,' said Natalie Jackson, the family attorney. 'Then you hear a second shot.'
The case has been turned over to the State Attorney's Office which can decide whether to file charges or present evidence to a grand jury.
Attorney Benjamin Crump, who is also representing the family, told reporters outside Sanford City Hall that Martin's parents both broke down and cried as they listened to the recordings.
'They are completely devastated, and they are in unbelievable grief,' Crump said. 'The last seconds of his life were in absolute fear.'

Martin was visiting his father and stepmother in Sanford where they live at The Retreat at Twin Lakes, pictured, when he popped out to buy snacks for his younger brother
He added that a third witness has come forward saying it was the boy who was crying for help.
Martin's parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, previously sued to have the recordings released. A hearing for the case had been scheduled for Monday.
Moments after Zimmerman's initial call, dispatchers were bombarded by seven 911 calls from frantic neighbors describing a fight between two men, screaming and then a gunshot.
'There is somebody screaming outside,' one female caller said, as an unknown male voice can be heard crying in the background. Then a shot is heard.
A male caller described a physical altercation between Martin and the shooter.
'I just heard a shot right behind my house,' The caller said. 'They're wrestling right behind my porch. The guy is yelling 'Help.' I'm not going outside.'

By the time police officers arrived, unarmed Trayvon, who had been carrying Skittles and soda, was dead on the ground from a single gunshot
Another woman said a man in a 'white top' was on top Trayvon.
Earlier on Friday, Martin's parents called on the FBI to take over the investigation, saying they no longer trusted the Sanford police department.
Sanford police Sgt. David Morgenstern said the department stands by its investigation but welcomes help from any outside agency. FBI agent David Couvertier said the agency has been in contact with Sanford police and is monitoring the case.
'We are committed to having somebody review this to see if we made a mistake,' said Sanford Mayor Jeff Triplett. 'If we made missteps and there is something there, we will act accordingly'

Trayvon's family believe Zimmerman should be charged and brought to justice for shooting their young son
Several Sanford residents who spoke to The Associated Press said they think there would have been an arrest already if the shooter had been black and the deceased had been white.
They said blacks and whites in this city of 53,000 residents were pretty much in agreement that an injustice had been done with no one arrested, and that there was no racial divide in how the case is being perceived. The city is 57 percent white and 30 percent black.
Zimmerman's father delivered a letter to the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday, saying the way his son is being depicted in the media is cruel and misleading.
He also says his son has received death threats and moved out of his home. George Zimmerman is Hispanic and grew up in a multiracial family, the statement says.

It's ridiculous to continue identifying someone due to a rule which is crap and would identify most people as black.

TenaciousOne · 16/07/2013 09:34

It was implied by the if they can pass why would they identify themselves as such.

Suelford · 16/07/2013 09:42

If you apply the one drop rule then George Zimmerman himself is black.

SpecialAgentTattooedQueen · 16/07/2013 09:42

My kids are mixed, they most certainly would (and have by the double takes I've received that's they're my DC) be treated as black.

Either way, the relevance is more about Zimmerman's attitude to black people than 'how white' Trayvon may have been.

Unless I'm totally missing the point? Genuine confusion, what does 'how black' Trayvon was got to do with the case/racial profiling?

TenaciousOne · 16/07/2013 09:48

SpecialAgent, I stated that Obama isn't black. Thats how the one drop rule came about.

TenaciousOne · 16/07/2013 09:49

I'm no stranger to the double takes, my DS could pass for white other than me his mixed race mother. People I'm sure don't believe I'm his mother.

SpecialAgentTattooedQueen · 16/07/2013 09:55

One drop rule is stupid. If I searched my family tree back far enough I could probably argue I'm part... Anything.

But I'm English. My DC are English. Never understood the one drop rule at all because it's so easily an argument to reverse?

It's such a shame people judge our DC on how dark they are isn't it. Tenacious :( Sometimes when I see that flash of confusion/condescending understanding in someone's eyes I just want to shout "AND NO THEY WEREN'T ADOPTED!!" So what if they even were but assuming I'm not DC's mother because I'm white? Angry Assumption that we 'stick to our own race' is sickening to me. It more than implies racism when people assume DC are adopted. Because as if I'd marry a black man, right?

And breathe. Angry

I need to check my newsfeed. Any new information on protests for Trayvon?

AmberLeaf · 16/07/2013 10:09

His mother was white so how can that make him black?

Im white, my children are black.

They know they are mixed race, but they also know that they are viewed as black and are happy to identify as such [while still acknowledging me their white Mum]

My 'white privilege' does not pass on to my children. I know lots of white Mums struggle with that fact.

TenaciousOne · 16/07/2013 10:17

I'm not black, I'm mixed race to me there is a big difference. Not just to me but even to black people there is a big difference. I fit into neither camp and that has been made crystal clear to me over the years. White people don't view me as white and black people don't view me as black either.

SpecialAgentTattooedQueen · 16/07/2013 10:52

They know they are mixed race, but they also know that they are viewed as black

This

My 'white privilege' does not pass on to my children.

And This ^

It's hard to see my children labelled, stamped, placed in a box.

Skin colour doesn't matter. It only matters to people who have a certain 'view' of how people with certain skin colours should act.

Being mixed race is a bit irrelevant because I think most of the population (especially in America!) Could easily find 'white blood' or 'black blood' in their family tree and thus declare they are mixed. The problem people are judged on what they look like to the public. And if you're decided you're BLACK, you are treated differently.

As others have said before me, if Zimmerman was black this would not be the story it is now because he simply wouldn't have gotten away with such an atrocious act.

Most people are mixed, especially if the one drop rule counts. It's perception that shapes discrimination, not your bloodline.

TenaciousOne · 16/07/2013 11:19

That is the problem though being mixed race does matter as both races decide that I am something based on appearances. There was an instance on a boat run by a local in St Lucia where he made some interesting comments about white people and then looked at me, if I could have got off the boat then and there I would have. I have had loads of comments when I have been in the caribbean because of my colouring and having both sets of grandparents there only makes it worse.
Here in the UK, my husband is ignored because of me. Even at school teachers made comments about me having an English name, who my grandmother was to me as she was white she couldn't be related. You can't tell me being mixed race is unimportant because it is. Even if you look at the argument of sticking to your own, how can someone who is mixed race do that?

LittleSporksBigSpork · 16/07/2013 11:34

There are peaceful protests around the world, large ones in American major cities. Even Syria has sent images of support.

TenaciousOne - I would suggest you read through the links I provided in my last post on race in America, particularly the racial abuse that Obama has had specifically from people perceiving him as Black. It didn't matter his mum was White when people from his own party called for his birth certificate. Also, Obama identifies himself as Black, even while loving his mother and his White family - they don't change how the larger American culture has treated him even when they know and they all know it.

Zimmerman is Latino (his father is White, his mother is from Peru). He has light skin and features enough to be white passing in most situations, but particularly in Florida, that would not be enough. He also identifies as Latino.

Race affects ones life chances in our current society - I've already given a bunch of links on the issue. It affects how whether your actions are taken as a a positive or a negative (the images of Trayvon doing teenage stuff along with two White musicians doing exactly the same thing - but they will never be called thug or any slurs for it). And both popular and academic evidence has shown that the current racial situation leads to PTSD and death, particularly for Black people.

LittleSporksBigSpork · 16/07/2013 11:44

x post Tenacious, I am also mixed race (Metis), and I get the same crap over my name and actions (even in the middle of a really hard labour I had "curious" people asking really horrible questions because they "just had to ask").

There are many mixed race groups, but yes, it is far harder to join communities, we have our own issues. However, in America, it is far harder because of it's history. I come from the States, it's a nightmare. People will literally get rid of all documents and change their names to get rid of a "dark" past if they think they can pass as White. Being anything else is far more dangerous.

Obama isn't treated as mixed race in America, he looks far too Black appearing for that. Our darker kin have far more problems than our lighter kin - the problem with colourism (which intersects as a subsect of racism). I am light skinned, I get away with it far more than my darker sister. Zimmerman is light skinned, he would get away far more than darker Latinos. But it doesn't take it away. Just brings a new set of problems.

CheerfulYank · 16/07/2013 12:03

For that matter Zimmerman had a black (Afro-Peruvian) grandfather or something, but he doesn't "look black", he looks Latino.

CheerfulYank · 16/07/2013 12:07

Although someone already said that I'm sure.

SpecialAgentTattooedQueen · 16/07/2013 12:09

I don't expect people of mixed race to 'stick to their own' Tenacious When I say the assumption your children are adopted because they don't look the same as you do sickens me, I meant the assumption that anyone from anyethnicity or mixed race must be adopted is disgusting and wrong. The assumption comes from buried racism, which I despise. I wouldn't assume a child was adopted because of their skin colour, I'd assume if I were told.

Anyway, I'll be back when this is about Trayvon because I don't feel I can add much to this part of the conversation :)

AmberLeaf · 16/07/2013 12:32

Im surprised you've had that experience in St Lucia Tenacious [surprised-not disbelieving] I have a few friends whos parents are from St Lucia and who also have at least one white St Lucian Grand parent. They have had much better if not favourable experiences when spending time there [based on their light skin]

Re Obama; he identifies as black.

The problem people are judged on what they look like to the public And if you're decided you're BLACK you are treated differently

Which brings the conversation back to Trayvon.

emuloc · 16/07/2013 13:03

Was there a protest in London about this yesterday outside the Amerian embassy. Did anybody see anything on the news.

musicismylife · 16/07/2013 13:09

I think that it isn't about black, mixed race or white. It's about non-white and white.

I'm struggling with what well-wobbly has said. On the one hand, you are saying that it is not a black or white issue but on the other hand, you are implying that perhaps the victim acted 'gangsta' I'm baffled.

I guess, we can also make the assumption that the perpetrator acted like a self-entitled 'white' person.

ThePowerof3 · 16/07/2013 13:18

I've known loads of non white people that were extremely racist it isn't an exclusively white trait

chocolatespiders · 16/07/2013 19:41

emuloc- there was a protest in London yesterday didnt see it on the news though.

staffie99 · 16/07/2013 20:00

Protest in London about this case? Some people really need to get a life. If they want to protest outside the American embassy they should protest about America's treatment of Edward Snowden, that is something that very much affects all of us.

limitedperiodonly · 16/07/2013 20:05

I've known loads of non white people that were extremely racist it isn't an exclusively white trait

Someone said earlier that you can only be racist if you're in a position of power.

Otherwise you're bigoted or prejudiced. Not good, but there is a distinction.

I've drawn that distinction with sexism and been told by a poster that it was the most ridiculous thing thing she'd ever heard.

I concluded that she was very sheltered.

limitedperiodonly · 16/07/2013 20:06

stray thing there

staffie99 · 16/07/2013 20:15

Someone said earlier that you can only be racist if you're in a position of power.

Well then that person is some sad do-gooder idiot attempting to excuse the racism of non-whites. Racism is a belief in different characteristics specific to races, generally to the effect that makes some superior or inferior to others. As any good dictionary will tell you.
