... a realtionship thread even a sleep thread but not a marriage thread? How can marriage be redefined if MN doesn't even recognise it?

AgentZigzag · 16/03/2012 23:32

Like 'My husband hasn't taken the recycling out for five days now, but I forgive him because he provides gin for me' you mean Warren?

jumjum · 16/03/2012 23:32

why the hostility to marriage? It may never be as perfect as the fairy tales but surely it is a better vision than a relationship - mariage is always written as marraige whereas relationship seems to be written as a relationship.
MN where's our marriage thread (or topic, as the anal MNs would say)

OP posts:
YuleingFanjo · 16/03/2012 23:32

what?

Honeydragon · 16/03/2012 23:33

Marriage is technically a three way between man, woman and god, written in legalese.

So it can go in religion, philosophy or relationships, or mental health. It's all a matter of perspective.

jumjum · 16/03/2012 23:33

ok I am happy to get rid of certain MN topics. Let's start with sleep, That makes me yawn

OP posts:
SparkyMcSparrow · 16/03/2012 23:33

Tis a topic! I'm anal!

A thread is posted within a TOPIC that its relevant!

DioneTheDiabolist · 16/03/2012 23:34

OP, YABU.

habbibu · 16/03/2012 23:34

But (aside from your last post being v confusing) you haven't explained what would be different about such a topic.

I think we should have a Dirty Stop-out topic.

habbibu · 16/03/2012 23:35

Civil marriage hasnt got anything to do with god. At least mine hasn't.

I don't think "relationship implies a transitory encounter" necessarily at all. I think it would be a really strange set up to have a thread where people felt they couldn't post if unless they were legally married and therefore deemed in some way to have a superior relationship status to others! Alot of my friends are in long term relationships with Dcs but are not married. They are no different to those of us that are married.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 16/03/2012 23:35

Thread = thread
Topic = topic

It's not about being anal, it's internet forum basics.

ABatInBunkFive · 16/03/2012 23:35

No you are right, MN should have it as a topic because you don't see marriage as a relationship, never mind sane most people do.

There is often a thead in chat ot relationships or AIBU about nice DH/Ps there isn't enough to talk about within the scope of the topic that isn't already covered by another one.

habbibu · 16/03/2012 23:36

Tethers, you can you say if you want a tethersend topic, you know.

tethersend · 16/03/2012 23:37

I think we should have a tethersend topic.

Honeydragon · 16/03/2012 23:37

Naah, the Tethersend topic would be full of cunts Wink

BelleDameSansMerci · 16/03/2012 23:37

We could call it "Smug Marrieds" and only allow happy tales of domestic bliss. Then those lesser mortals who are "only" in relationships could gaze in awe and wonder at the lives of those more fortunate.

Nothing against marriage but also can't see why some people believe that no marriage means no commitment.

Don't forget 'My husband and I...' Warren, to be read out with the Queens plummy accent.

I was traumatised this last week by seeing a middle aged couple in the same distinctive red coats walking down the road, totally oblivious to the shame they brought on themselves.

Now that's a marriage fail isn't it?

Marriage of course is a relationship just as my encounter in my local butchers is - but marriage is more than that surely?. Should I post in the relationship thread my purchase of stewing steak? I think not.
