to not find george clooney to be a smoldering sex god?

I was watching an interview of a bloke who has had his life made into a film with Matt Damon (the buying a zoo one). He said he had some input into what actor would play him.
Cue the interviewers going "oooh you could have picked George Clooney".
the bloke said "no actually i prefer Matt Damon".
He might as well have said he enjoyed running over puppies. There were audible gasps and one of the interviewers said "oh controversial".
What is the obsession with George? I mean he's attractive and seems to have a good sense of humour. but i find the string of girlfriends young enough to be his daughter a bit weird tbh. and there are a lot of older men that i would gladly jump the bones off ahead of him (jeremy irons, liam neeson, john malkovitch, alan rickman, ......)
Why is he always held up as the most attractive man in the world? am i weird to not fancy him?

If you are weird, I am too. His run in The Desendants wearing flip flops was the least sexy film moment ever!

chairmanofthebored · 16/03/2012 08:43

YANBU. I have often wondered this myself, but also add Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and many other so called hollywood heart throbs. With the exception of course of Johnny Depp, who i consider to be thinking women's crumpet! Part of the attraction to him is the fact that he seems to have a edge to him which makes him rather more appealing to me!

catgirl1976 · 16/03/2012 08:44

You three a BU - but that is fine as all the more George for me.

talkingnonsense · 16/03/2012 08:46

Yabu...but matt Damon is also lovely. George has a gorgeous twinkle!

BIWI · 16/03/2012 08:59

Well I wouldn't worry about it as he is, allegedly, gay anyway!

chairmanofthebored · 16/03/2012 09:01

Really? George Clooney is gay, where his hoards of ladeeez just a cover up then?

chairmanofthebored · 16/03/2012 09:02

were

nightmusk · 16/03/2012 09:04

YABU - but given the choice I'd go for Matt Damon.

southeastastra · 16/03/2012 09:08

he's as camp as a row of tents

Abcinthia · 16/03/2012 09:09

I don't fancy him at all and can't really understand the fuss. He's good looking but the most attractive man on earth? Nah.

susiedaisy · 16/03/2012 09:09

Don't like him one bit, yuk!!

OrTakeTheRoofOff · 16/03/2012 09:10

He's easy enough on the eye, but there are others who I wouldn't shove out of the way to get to him IYSWIM.

OrTakeTheRoofOff · 16/03/2012 09:11

Although, if he is gay, I think it's a bit sad in this day and age that he wants/has to pretend to have girlfriends.

MorrisZapp · 16/03/2012 09:12

The problem with being a SSG is that by the time the world knows how godlike your sexy smouldering is, you've started to believe it yourself. And that cancels out the attraction.

But Brad Pitt in Thelma and Louise, before his name had become shorthand for male beauty... mmmm, I would, oh yes.

MorrisZapp · 16/03/2012 09:13

Oh and I wouldn't worry about M Damon. I'm sure he gets plenty :)

HugeFurryWishingStool · 16/03/2012 09:21

nope, never seen the appeal of him. Too Dad-like.

qazxc · 16/03/2012 09:27

oh god that's terrible if he is gay and having to hide it. in this day and age, why should it matter?

OP posts:
PostBellumBugsy · 16/03/2012 09:30

Definitely not. He does that head wobble thing when he talks, which annoys me in a very irrational way. Never fancied him & couldn't understand what all the fuss was about when he was in ER.
I heard he was gay too - but have no idea if that is true, or just the media speculating.

RedBlanket · 16/03/2012 09:37

He's pretty easy on the eye, seems quite charming and intelligent in interviews, I wouldn't say no. Mind you, Matt Damon wouldn't have to twist my arm either.

Tom Cruise though, no no no. Does anyone think he's attractive?

anychocswilldo · 16/03/2012 09:54

I agree, he doesn't do it for me either. Tbh I don't understand the big deal about Brad Pitt either. I think Matt Damon is gorgeous and Hugh Jackman sends me all funny (in a good way) I think Tom Cruise is very attractive but he is a bit strange which puts me off.

springydaffs · 16/03/2012 10:05

I've never worked out what the fuss is about George either. completely not my cup of tea. Plus he's mucking about a bit irl isn't he? Same goes for Brad Pitt. Tom Cruise? completely don't get what that is about plus he is seriously weird. Patrick Jane however.... (ok, Simon Baker, married, stable, good bloke?)

Bumperlicious · 16/03/2012 10:10

YABU, he is scrummy, gay or not. And as for the gay thing, if he came out that would make him less bankable as a romantic lead in a movie. I think that's why there are many high profile actors who keep quiet about their sexuality.

HardCheese · 16/03/2012 10:15

GC doesn't do it for me - the whole Bedroom Brown Eyes and smoothie matineee idol looks thing just feels a bit cartoonish or something. Then again, I never find conventionally good-looking people attractive - the Spooks character I always thought was the most enticing was Harry Pearce, not any of the hot young spies...

ripsishere · 16/03/2012 10:27

I wouldn't either. I'd poke people in the eye to get to Johnny Depp or Rhys Iffans but George? No. You can all have him.
Obviously I wouldn't have any competition for Adrian Chiles. He's my number one.

BlueFergie · 16/03/2012 10:32

You crazy crazy people. He is absolutely delicious. There is not a person alive that I wouldn't push out of the way to get to him. Including DH Blush. Yum yum.
