There, now I've got your attention...

Go and book a smear test. Yes, YOU.

I'm having emergency treatment tomorrow to remove a large part of my cervix, so I probably won't be able to carry a child to term successfully. I am 24, and otherwise healthy; I don't smoke, hardly drink, exercise regularly, I'm not overweight and I eat more fruit and vegetables than is necessary.

Just get checked. It's really, really important.

Thanks

Thank you for your time.

:(

So sorry you are going through this. I will follow your advice. I have been putting it off since the middle of last year when my first results came back as unreadable (not enough sample).

Tomorrow morning I will rebook. Wishing you a speedy recovery x

Busybusybust · 15/03/2012 18:57

Oh, bless you. Good luck

Thanks
Shutupanddrive · 15/03/2012 18:57

I'm up to date with mine after someone started a similar post on here a while ago. Gave me the kick up the arse I needed to book the appointment and go. Hope your op goes to plan tomorrow Sad

diabolo · 15/03/2012 18:57

slattern that's awful - I'm sorry.

I had an abnormal smear and a minor operation at 21, due to the delightful HPV virus.

If only I could have had the vaccination that is now available to 13 year olds, I would have jumped at the chance. The benefits of hindsight and all that. Please Mums - let your DD's have this vaccination. The benefits far outweigh any risk.

Sorry you are going through this. Happened to my cousin when she was 21. She has gone on to have 2 healthy children though so don't lose heart. Take care of yourself.
I understand how frustrating it is that people avoid having smears done when you know what's at stake. Will be thinking of you tomorrow.

LadySybilDeChocolate · 15/03/2012 19:01

I'm up to date. I'm so sorry, you're very brave to come and kick us all up the arse.

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. Thanks

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/03/2012 19:02

Thanks and I have mine booked.

headfairy · 15/03/2012 19:02

:( Slatternly.... I've just got my invitiation through the post... will definitely book in the next couple of days.

slatternlymother · 15/03/2012 19:03

I've already got 1 DS, so I know I'm fortunate, btw.

Having mine tomorrow and dreading it as I missed the last one as I had a bad accident.

Sorry you are going through this x

Jux · 15/03/2012 19:03

So sorry slatternly.

VivaLeBeaver · 15/03/2012 19:03

Sorry this has happened to you. Especially at 24. Isn't the age for smear tests 25 as routine now though, so most people your age would struggle to get one done as routine. Which is such a shame. I'm guessing that if people have problems or symptoms though they would get a smear then.

I hope it all goes okay for you. Sister had a stitch put in her cervix and carried two children to term.

iloveminieggs · 15/03/2012 19:32

Yeah it's 25 in England (and Wales I think) which is far too late. Personally I think it should be at least age sexually active. Sorry to hear about your op x

Meglet · 15/03/2012 19:33

All the best for tomorrow Smile. I've had it done too, seriously low risk like you, although mine all kicked off at 30. But regular smears probably saved my life.

CoryTunt · 15/03/2012 19:33

I'm due my second one (just given birth 14 weeks ago) will be booking it tomorrow while I'm at the GPs! Thanks for this and I'm sorry you are going through what you're going through :(

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 15/03/2012 19:33

I'm really sorry to hear you are going through this. I hope it goes well and you are able to have more children - if you want them.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 15/03/2012 19:33

Hey, good luck.

maxybrown · 15/03/2012 19:34

SparkyMcSparrow · 15/03/2012 19:36

How did you get one?
I have asked a few times and been refused because I am 23 :(

EnjoyResponsibly · 15/03/2012 19:38

OP that sucks Sad

Thank you though for your post, I had mine done a couple of months ago after an MNer went on the rampage.

Good luck to you tomorrow xx

TicketToHull · 15/03/2012 19:38

I have been asked to book a smear test since December, when I turned 25, but have been postponing it. Already have 1 DS, so am completely at ease with people poking about my bits, but have just had so many other things to do that I'd just not found time to. Thank you for story, I will definitely book one tomorrow. Hope it goes alight with tomorrow Thanks

TicketToHull · 15/03/2012 19:40

alight alright Blush
