There, now I've got your attention...

Go and book a smear test. Yes, YOU.

I'm having emergency treatment tomorrow to remove a large part of my cervix, so I probably won't be able to carry a child to term successfully. I am 24, and otherwise healthy; I don't smoke, hardly drink, exercise regularly, I'm not overweight and I eat more fruit and vegetables than is necessary.

Just get checked. It's really, really important.

Thanks

Thank you for your time.

Hello slattern Glad you are ok x

ArielNonBio · 16/03/2012 17:22

Hello Slattern, glad to hear you sounding a bit chipper and that the doc was nice, even if he was a man. I would definitely have cried too :)

lazarusb · 16/03/2012 17:48

Hope you are being taken care off. I think your tears are understandable in the circumstances. Smile

BigFatSpider · 16/03/2012 17:52

Glad to hear you're ok :) Sometimes only a Maccy D's and a snooze on the sofa will cut it!

I remember having the colposcopy/biopsy with the camera-feed TV screen right in my line of vision - watched in fascinated horror as the scalpel carved away bits of my cervix...

FelixDaSouza · 16/03/2012 18:15

Happy to hear you are alright. Take it easy now and relax. Smile

KateSpade · 16/03/2012 21:42

Glad your alright, OP. & OP, the doctor does my STI tests, (i don't sleep around or even have a bf atm but i've always tried to be safe with my sexual, anyway, he's a man and at first i was like Shock but your a man though, he's quite nice and re-assuring though.

It's something i'd really like to get involved in, lowering the age. I think they did briefly, but with the HPV vaccine being offered, people who are not eligible what happens if they want to be re-assured. It's all about good health now, but not for a few things, which irritates me.

I, don't know any of my Biological History, if thats the right word, not that it makes me a hypochondriac, but i don't have the option to think, well my mum hasn't had any Cervical cancer, so I'm probably alright.

Jux · 16/03/2012 22:56

Hope you're feeling OK today, slattern, and had a good sleep last night (tonight for me, but by the time you read this.... oh you know what I mean!)

ontow · 17/03/2012 15:16

I'm back too. Whole things was OK and not too sore today and not bleeding at all.

Anaesthetic is taking its toll a bit and I'm a bit wobbly and weak.

How are you Slattern?

BelladonnaValentina · 17/03/2012 18:03

OP so sorry :(

I just had my smear yesterday. I'm a bit worried about the results actually as I'm having what I recognise as cervical cancer symptims and, with all swabs and bloods being clear, I just hope that cancer isn't the one thing that's left.

All the best to you in your operation and recovery.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 17/03/2012 18:09

*Kate, I don't think it matters if your mother had it or not it can be caused by the hpv virus which is passed on during sex, your body can fight it off or not which is when the abnormal cells occur.

I posted this before but someone kept following me around saying the age shouldn't be lowered so if you want to do something to help then sign this campaign which is going to parliament in April, they need to get to 100,000 signatures and it came about due to a brave young girl who lost her life as her dr refused her a smear test under 25 -

Mercedes

Sorry for hijacking. Glad to hear you are back safe op and got through it ok in the end (I cried too). Thanks

slatternlymother · 17/03/2012 18:59

Argh tits. I overdid it today and now it huuuurts Sad nothing a lycheeni won't fix

My lovely aunt came today and brought me wine and chocolate and we had a good gossip, bloody fab! DS has been really good too, just playing quietly with his toys all day and stopping only for juice and snacks (he's only 17mo).

Going to chill out a bit now.

Yes I saw that Mercedes campaign; she lived not far from me Sad so bloody frightening. Turns your stomach what that poor girl had to endure.

Please try not to overdo it!!! I bled loads a couple of days after doing too much, we had moving day the day after my lletz.

You make lycheeni's at home? Wow that is pretty impressive.

RuleBritannia · 28/11/2012 08:52

The age should not only be reduced but raised as well. Apparently, smars are rcommended if the woman has an active sexual life. The cut off date is 65. Why? Do they think that we stop loving our husbands the day after the last day of being 64?

Jingleflobba · 28/11/2012 10:50

Hope you're feeling a bit better today slattern. I've just been put back onto normal recall after 10 years of 6 monthly smears after a colposcopy, such a relief!!
I remember the procedure quite well, just me, the gynae and 3 medical students (one male) staring at the screen getting a guided tour of parts of me I never thought I would see...
I felt wobbly enough after that so I hope you are looking after yourself. Thanks

MerryCunnyFuntingChristmas · 28/11/2012 12:12

Jingle this thread is a few months old, I like to think the OP has recovered by now Wink

BuntyCollocks · 28/11/2012 14:14

Pregnant at the moment, but my next smear is due in January, and as soon as I've stopped with the whole leakage situation, I'll be there. I never miss a smear. SO important.
