Just as soon as I conclude the emotional neglect claim against my parents for not buying me an ice cream on the sea front at Rhyl in 1984. It caused me a lifetime of emotional distress.

SwimmingThroughSickLullabies · 15/03/2012 11:58

So OP can your parents sue you because despite all their efforts on raising you and getting educated your still coming out with stupid ridiculous statements?!

DamselInDisarray · 15/03/2012 11:58

MrsHeffley: surely the only reasonable response to a thread like this is to take the piss and subvert it. Why on earth would anyone want to take the OP seriously?

Actually I'm lying. I'm deadly serious about the skeltor burying war crimes tribunal.

OneHandWavingFree · 15/03/2012 11:59

AIBU to think that you should be able to sue your mum for being a judgemental, shit-stirring ignoramus and therefore providing a very poor role model for reasonable adult behaviour?

MrsHeffley · 15/03/2012 12:03

Also can kids with excema sue too as bfing increases the chance of having excema?

Damsel I agree but many women struggling at the moment will see the thread title and feel like shit,it would have been the last straw for me 7 years ago.

girliefriend · 15/03/2012 12:07

have my first Biscuit

In my family, I was bf for 6wks, my brother for 2 weeks and my youngest brother for 14mos....... guess which one has the allergies and most ill health????!!!

naturalbaby · 15/03/2012 12:09

How has this thread not been deleted yet?

ChickensHaveNoLips · 15/03/2012 12:15

I'd like to get riled. Really, I would. But the whole BF/FF thing is so old hat I can't. Plus, my DC are now able to make their own sandwiches, raid the fridge and unload the dishwasher. So I just don't give a shit.

FruitShootsAndHeaves · 15/03/2012 12:16

I'm going to sue my mum for dying too soon and causing me unnecessary grief and upset.

Oh....I can see a small flaw in my plan already

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 15/03/2012 12:19

damsel

I was thinking of employing Mr Slant as he should be able to get around the minor problem of a dead defendant given he is a zombie.
(for all non Terry Pratchett fans)
"Mr. Slant of Morcombe, Slant & Honeyplace is the head of the Guild of Lawyers in Ankh-Morpork. He is always involved in shadowy business but never caught out committing a crime. He died ages ago, but that has never stopped him from continuing his work.

It is usually reported that he became a zombie as he wished to pursue the financial disbursements involved in conducting his own defence at the trial that lead to his execution."

Haziedoll · 15/03/2012 12:29

You don't reckon this thread will be a discussion point on MW do you?

entropygirl · 15/03/2012 12:34

Why would MN take this thread down? It doesnt contain much troll hunting or name calling?

TheScottishPlayer · 15/03/2012 12:41

My DS absolutely refused to BF, causing me a great deal of upset. Do you think I could sue because of the mental anguish it caused?

Is there a time limit on when you can sue someone? I'm worried that he's not really got any money of his own just now and it could be a while before he's a solvent adult.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 15/03/2012 12:49

My DM couldn't breastfeed me because of undiagnosed tongue-tie. It wasn't picked up until I was 11.
Do you think I could sue the midwives & HV for missing it? I'd have to find out who they were of course.....

shagmundfreud · 15/03/2012 12:55
Hmm

But I do think there's mileage in the idea of suing health professionals who give out shit, non-evidence based advice on breastfeeding, that ends up buggering the whole thing up for a mum and a baby.

RubyFakeNails · 15/03/2012 12:55

I'm assuming this thread is a joke because the fucking Breast Feeding Mafia piss me right off and taking it seriously will send me into a rant.

My DCs could probably sue me for lack of BF but also my all round lax parenting, and I could sue my parents and grandparents for the same, but I think nothing, absolutely nothing could rival the settlement OPs children deserve for being given the (officially named) moron gene.

But I did wonder if doing as OP suggests, who would your witnesses be? How would you prove you were or weren't breast fed? Surely you can't remember, your mum would obviously claim you are, your dad may be unreliable due to his (good or bad) relationship with your mum. I suppose there are siblings but them being sure is easy to disprove.

thedogwalker · 15/03/2012 12:58

This has got to be a joke, right?????

entropygirl · 15/03/2012 13:06

I agree with shag...

I think the actual OP is clearly U but there is also clearly a wider discussion to be had....

We all make parenting decisions and all decisions are NOT equal and it seems to me there is a sliding scale of badness from the illegal (abuse, negligence etc.) to the mundane (piano lessons for a DC that could have been a world class violinist).

IMO BF/FF is on the mundane non-suable side of the borderline....but I would potentially put smoking while pregnant / with young children on the suable side....although I'm willing to hear good reasons why a child exposed to passive smoke all their life shouldn't sue....

Mharhi · 15/03/2012 14:21

My mum was not allowed to breastfeed me, although she wanted to try. She suffered from epilepsy and the drugs she had to take were not suitable for breastfeeding.

I am fine and have had no health problems.

TandB · 15/03/2012 14:21

Pandawatch - I will be happy to take your mum's case. I do a discount for pandas....

D0oinMeCleanin · 15/03/2012 14:34

Yes, BelinaTheChicken, I was almost killed by the kit of my pet ferret. I was playing on the floor with it after it'd been ratting (so was an over excited ferret) and let it crawl up my sleeve the way it's mother always did. My Dad shouted at me not to let it near my face because it would bite me. I assumed he was talking bollocks and didn't listen. He wasn't talking bollocks.

The lovely A and E doc who stitched my jawline back togetether said it missed my jugular by millimeters and I was lucky to be alive.

I guess I should sue my father for that one? Although the most upsetting thing about the whole debacle is that my mother massively over reacted and rehomed all my ferrets. I was truamatised. I find the bite incident quite an amusing tale to tell now, but I am still traumatised at the sudden loss of my pet ferrets Sad I should sue my mum for trauma.

MrsHeffley: but hopefully they'll open the thread and see that everyone thinks its a spectacularly stupid idea (akin to zombie lawyers to sue the dead in its utter ludicrousness) and feel better.

I am most definitely pro-breastfeeding (I breastfed my kids, DS2 until he was 2), but I honestly couldn't give a shit what anyone else decides to do. Actually, I might care if someone decided to emulate my mother and substitute irn bru for milk. That's just daft.

pumpkinsweetie · 15/03/2012 15:51

How absolutely ridiculous lol !!! My mum bottle fed me and my sister were still alive in our twenties but our bro who was breast fed is no longer with us - he died of cancer aged 16--so wot u gonna say caused this ??
