to think it's rubbish to have parking rage at another school mum.

This morning I was taking my chiildren to school. I usually park in a road that has parking on both sides so cars have to wait at one end whilst the line of travelling cars come through. Today I was travelling through whilst there was a car at the end. Towards the end of cars I saw a space and took it. Cue mum in car at other end flashing her lights and saying something to me. I'm no good at lip-reading but checked I hadn't parked over a drive way and all seemed ok. I got my children out by which time she was out of her car having a go that it was her space, that she had been waiting for it etc. I explained that I had not realised that she had the intention to park there and since she wasn't indicating there was nothing to suggest it. She expected me to put my children back in the car and drive off to vacate the space. She then said that if I parked properly we could both fit in (clearly not the case because her car was huge and there was just 2metres left) and then starting saying, 'It's people like you...'

Now frankly, I have had a rough few weeks and don't need the antagonism. There were other mums around and I felt embarrassed that she was trying to get me into an argument (I stayed very calm) and my children had to experience it. On top of that, we have children at the same school - we're going to bump into each other. I understand that she might have been stressed but surely IANBU to think you don't started kicking off to other school mums.

To be honest Worra, I think sometimes people just like a good fight. I've had people say some really outrageous things to me in AIBU.

WorraLiberty · 14/03/2012 12:16

Nit if you're parking legally and not right outside the school then I doubt you are putting lives at risk.

But plenty of other people do...and on a daily basis.

"Give your child a cooked breakfast every morning and drive them to school instead of walking"

I can see that catching on as a Government health slogan Grin

dontwanttrouble · 14/03/2012 12:19

NC as I will probably get in serious trouble for this but...parking at Dd's school is totally totally outrageous. Every day it is the same people in the same massive cars who park on the corners, on the double yellows and on the zig zags and they are without exception Asian familes. The school has been in the local paper about it, the police come along regularly to try to sort it out and the headteacher mentions in every newsletter, however, they will not stop. See why I NC?

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 14/03/2012 12:19

Ok, I think at some points the issue of driving to school ever or at all is being conflated with parking dangerously, badly or selfishly then, which I have to say is quite rare at our school.

Pusheed · 14/03/2012 12:20

"Pusheed mine walk, and don't end up smelling damp - they wear waterproofs!"

So that is what I have been doing wrong [rolls eyes]

Sorry but DCS think that they look like dorks if they went to school wearing waterproof trousers, jacket, hood plus wellies.

I drive pass a secondary when I use to do the school run and the kids that I saw NEVER wore waterproofs. It can be raining cats, dogs and other mammals and no coat. They will probably grow up and become part of at the Children Don't Melt/Dissolve cult.

TheRhubarb · 14/03/2012 12:25

dontwanttrouble - funny that, most of the inconsiderate parkers round our school are white but I didn't think to bring that up.

Bloody white people!

SpagBog is the same as MN, it could equally be MT or MS but it isn't.

Spagbog could be spagbol or spagboo or spagbon. It's spagbog however and you will henceforth be known as spagbogformerlyknownasspagbol Grin

Pusheed · 14/03/2012 12:26

"and they are without exception Asian familes"

What, you mean all the posters from all over the UK/world that have been complaining about the school run have been PC in not mentioning that Asians are the root cause of the school run problem in their area :o

Am I allowed to use a certain word or will that get me reported to MNHQ?

A friend of mine lives in a swish part of SW London where the school run problems are caused by affluent white women in big SUVs. But what does that prove?

Idiot inconsiderate drivers transends race, colour and money.

FourThousandHoles · 14/03/2012 12:31

Oh god let me count the ways in which I loathe driving to school

3 mile journey - then 15 miles on to work before anyone judges Grin

There is a car park at dd's school, however there are those who think that they couldn't possibly walk from the bottom end of the car park to the playground, they have to park in front of those parked in the marked bays nearer the school, blocking them in. Fuckers.

TheRhubarb · 14/03/2012 12:34

Pusheed, the point she was trying to make is clearly a racist one and can be shot down on so many levels that I wouldn't bother even trying.

NinthWave · 14/03/2012 12:37

Fair point Pusheed, mine's only in Primary so knows I'll win if he tries to argue with me Wink

madhairday · 14/03/2012 12:38

Seems there is this problem at every school ever.

Reminds me of the time some tosser parked right outside our school gates on the zig zag lines an icy day, deciding he needed to mount the pavement as he did so. In doing this the car skidded along the pavement and a walking child was knocked over.

Thankfully the child was OK, but it wasn't the first time something similar had happened. Yet people still parked selfishly.

School gate rage happens up and down the country every day. There are always good and bad reasons why people drive to school. Tis the way of it.

dontwanttrouble · 14/03/2012 12:47

Which is why I NC. It is not a racist comment, it is an observation.

ScarlettInSpace · 14/03/2012 12:48

I hate when people steal my parking space. Not enough to shout about it though, there's always another one & life is too short.

In the past I have inadvertantly stolen other people's parking spaces and suffered the occasional gesticulation but if someone started screeching at me over it, I'd probably apologise then ignore them, it's their blood pressure after all.

That is what this thread is about isn't it?

PfftTheMagicDraco · 14/03/2012 12:51

This never happens. I agree with Rhubarb. Or Rhubard, if we are to continue on the Spagbog thread.

I sometimes entertain incredibly fucking bizarre fantasies about asking each parent what their personal completely fabricated excuse important reason is for parking in the head teacher's office every morning as they shepherd their little darlings into the school before screeching off, turning the wrong way out of the school and never looking back. Maybe I could be in charge of all school parking.

Its not about working, or not working, or distance to school. LEAVE EARLIER YOU LAZY BUGGERS.

TheRhubarb · 14/03/2012 12:53

Bollocks!

It is racist.

None of us felt the need to point out that the majority of school run drivers were white did we?
So why point out that the ones at your school are Asian?
And why name-change if you are convinced that it is not a racist comment?

Do you think that by sharing your 'observation' we'll all sympathise by sharing our own observations about Asian people?

Most of the incidents we've spoken about on this thread involve white people, yet you chose to come in and spout off about Asian people, why? You could have just told us your story but you felt the need to tell us exactly what race they are, as if that makes any difference whatsoever to the discussion.

I don't normally shout racist, I find it's a word used far too often, but in your case, the fact that you name changed and felt the need to tell us the race of the arrogant drivers at your school shows your comment up to be racist. Not because of your 'observation' but by your need to tell us in order to gauge a reaction. I don't know what you expected by your little comment? All it proves is that all those on the school run act the same whether they are white, Asian, Chinese or bloody Martian. This is NOT about how people of different nations act when taking their kids to school.

Pusheed · 14/03/2012 13:03

I suspect dontwant is just trolling. No one can be that racist .... or am I being naive?

PfftTheMagicDraco · 14/03/2012 13:03

You namechanged to post a statement that was NOT racist?

Do you only post racist stuff under your normal name?

And yes, it was.

dontwanttrouble · 14/03/2012 13:04

I found it interesting to realise, and it took ages to even think about it, that the only people around our school who wilfully ignore danger, ignore letters, ignore the police and studiously ignore polite requests to not park in such a dangerous place, are from the same ethnic group. It was an OBSERVATION.

TheRhubarb · 14/03/2012 13:06

Naive I'm afraid.

She wanted to make a point about Asians being arrogant and inconsiderate drivers in their massive cars. That's what racist people do, try to find justification for their racism.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/03/2012 13:07

The back way to our school is a narrow residential street leading to a 'crossroads' to the main road. I work 3/7 days so DD dropped off early for Breakfast Club. I usually walk (20-25 minutes) on my non-work days.

I watched a huge queue of cars going (well trying to, they were stuck) to the school gates but most of them didn't know there was a delivery lorry stuck in the middle.
Tempers frayed, horns blasted. I was tempted to sit on a garden wall and see how they sorted it out.
By the time I walked to the end of the road the traffic was backing up onto the main road.

TheRhubarb · 14/03/2012 13:09

"I found it interesting to realise, and it took ages to even think about it, that the only people around our school who wilfully ignore danger, ignore letters, ignore the police and studiously ignore polite requests to not park in such a dangerous place, are from the same ethnic group. It was an OBSERVATION."

Oooh, really? The people who do it round us tend to be from the same ethnic group too - white British! What a coincidence do you not think?

So if we removed all Asian people, our problems on the school run would be solved! Well done dontwanttrouble see how useful that observation was?

Pagwatch · 14/03/2012 13:12

It was an observation made through big fat racist glasses

dontwanttrouble · 14/03/2012 13:12

'naive'? 'she' ? Oh whatever. Think what you like. I have no dubt you are a very right on liberal super doopah mummy. Good for you. And no I'm not racist. But obviously you have decided I am.

WorraLiberty · 14/03/2012 13:13

Of course it was a racist post and a totally pointless one to boot.

If I spoke about my local school, the dangerous parkers would be mainly white British because they make up the majority of parents.

If I spoke about the parents in my Dad's area, they would be mainly Asian because they make up the majority of parents.

If I went to China Town tomorrow and studied dangerous parking, guess who the likely perpetrators would be?

Not Bulgarian Lap dancing hamsters, that's for sure.

MargueritaaPracatan · 14/03/2012 13:13

They park in the Head Teacher's office at your school, Pfft ?- I'd be less cross, more impressed at their maneuvering skills.
