to think it's rubbish to have parking rage at another school mum.

This morning I was taking my chiildren to school. I usually park in a road that has parking on both sides so cars have to wait at one end whilst the line of travelling cars come through. Today I was travelling through whilst there was a car at the end. Towards the end of cars I saw a space and took it. Cue mum in car at other end flashing her lights and saying something to me. I'm no good at lip-reading but checked I hadn't parked over a drive way and all seemed ok. I got my children out by which time she was out of her car having a go that it was her space, that she had been waiting for it etc. I explained that I had not realised that she had the intention to park there and since she wasn't indicating there was nothing to suggest it. She expected me to put my children back in the car and drive off to vacate the space. She then said that if I parked properly we could both fit in (clearly not the case because her car was huge and there was just 2metres left) and then starting saying, 'It's people like you...'

Now frankly, I have had a rough few weeks and don't need the antagonism. There were other mums around and I felt embarrassed that she was trying to get me into an argument (I stayed very calm) and my children had to experience it. On top of that, we have children at the same school - we're going to bump into each other. I understand that she might have been stressed but surely IANBU to think you don't started kicking off to other school mums.

Madame
I live opposite a school too. They have tried to park on my drive before.
Batty.
I just shut the gates Grin

Pag, you are lucky to have a drive. I have front door, pavement, road. I must admit, the benefits of this are that I am happy to park anywhere. I go to the shops and just pull into any space, rather than trawl for the one closest to the door. A good day is if I can park somewhere on my street.

Pusheed · 14/03/2012 11:07

.. hence my request for a link to a Youtube video. I'm starting to think that W was being sarcastic Hmm

Pagwatch · 14/03/2012 11:07

The little bikini bottoms would be a problem. I know that because I tried to put some shorts on penis dog.

Do pole dancers west little bikini bottoms or is that just tv drama lap dancers.

Pagwatch · 14/03/2012 11:10

It's awful Madame, they block my drive sometimes which is a pain in the butt but my house is on a main junction, double yellow lines, a blind corner and a part of the towns one way system..... They can make the roads grind to a halt.
My neighbour has an open drive next to the school. She can sit there for ages waiting for someone to get off her drive so she can go to work.

Spagbolagain · 14/03/2012 11:11

Genuine question as DC not yet school-aged:

But what if both parents are working and doin school run on the way? Or if 2 children at different schools? Walking is therefore not an option and neither is parking a 10 minute walk away.

TheRhubarb · 14/03/2012 11:14

So those mothers pushed for time who cannot park a few streets away also presumably cannot get out of bed 15mins earlier to get to the school before the rush?

As usual, a load of half arsed excuses from mothers who feel it is their right to clog up a residential street to get their precious poppets to school.

Best not bring up the fact that many also do ridiculous maneouvres, block driveways and don't watch out for young children who have walked to school.

Says Pagwatch - she did, she said all that earlier in the thread!

WorraLiberty · 14/03/2012 11:14

Not every one is SAHP. Some of us drop our kids off before heading off to work/train station. Parking 15 mins away and walking is not an option because of the need to get to work on time.

Leave 15 minutes earlier? Confused

I say again, why do you assume that every parent that drops off by car does it because they are too lazy to walk?

I've made no such assumption.

I mentioned those who drive to work unnecessarily and then you posted about your necessary journey for some reason?

But yes, there are some people who are too lazy to park a bit further from the school and walk.

badtasteflump · 14/03/2012 11:16

Pag what is a penis dog? Confused

MargueritaaPracatan · 14/03/2012 11:16

Oh sometimes I have every intention of walking then I just can't be fagged. So I jump in my tiny weeny car and park 3 roads away, carefully avoiding drop kerbs and even parking opposite another driveway, then I have an iPod surf while listening to Gardeners' Question Time.

If ever there was a perfect school parker - it's gotta be me.

TheRhubarb · 14/03/2012 11:16

Honestly just watch your local school. 5 mins before the gates all the parents will arrive at once, most of them already in a foul mood and rather than watching out for children arriving on foot, they are too busy trying to get a parking space right outside the school doors.

Because presumably getting out the house 15 or even 10 minutes earlier is akin to putting a thong on a guinea pig and making it lapdance to Lady Gaga.

WorraLiberty · 14/03/2012 11:17

MargueritaaPracatan I love your nickname!

What a blast from the past Grin

I'm now doing her voice in my head..."Pracaaaataaan!"

Spagbolagain · 14/03/2012 11:18

Oi Rhubarb, assume you are levelling those accusations at fathers as well as mothers!

Pagwatch · 14/03/2012 11:18

Badtasteflump
He is my dog. It's a long story involving bad typing and some deep snow.

WorraLiberty · 14/03/2012 11:19

And just exactly what is wrong with dressing my Guinea Pig in a thong? Angry

Ok...not the one who looks like Peter Stringfellow but it looks rather fetching on the others.

Spagbolagain · 14/03/2012 11:20

If you get there 15 minutes early, what do the children do? Do you have to stay and supervise them? (honestly, I know nothing, but am panicking about the future)

aldiwhore · 14/03/2012 11:20

A lot of the time you cannot go early because the school gates don't open early.

Sometimes there are no streets within 15 minutes of the school on which to park.

Our village school is on the only road you are allowed to park on, the rest are too narrow, beyond that its fast A roads with no pavements.

The school could ease conjestion by allowing children to be dropped off from 8.40am onwards, they used to do this until they introduced the breakfast club now the gates open at 8.55am. Breakfast clubbers have to go for the full hour of the club, so those parents who are on a tight budget (normal people) and who simply need a 5-10 minute window are now joining those dropping off on time, and its a bleeding nightmare.

Indith · 14/03/2012 11:21

Madness.

A lot of people walk round here but plenty drive too. Preschool is worse because it is the only one so serves lots of villages. One mum in another vilaage always gets there half an hour before pick up to get a space. If I'm in the car I pull up by the shops with 2 mins to go, always space, the walk all of 2 mins to be there on time.

Spagbolagain · 14/03/2012 11:21

Guinea pigs cannot wear thongs as they have no arse-cheeks

The other day some idiot parked so close to my car at the railway station car park that I had to climb in via the hatch (my passenger door was against the wall). The other day I was almost run over by an idiot at the same station who drove the wrong way up the DOWN ramp because he couldn't be bothered to follow the line of other cars.

The problem is with stupid drivers as opposed to people who drive to school. There will always be idiot drivers that will endanger/inconvenience others. How about suggestions that tackle that problem rather than tell others that they are lazy for not walking to school.
