to ask why on earth my thread was deleted?

I asked a few questions about perceptions of single parents for my sociology assignment, whicanyh is to do with comparing the perception of single parents with the reality.

A very few people seemed to think I was being provocative. Most people were supportive and there were lots of interesting comments.

I now find that it's been deleted!?! What on earth? Compared to most of the stuff I read on AIBU it was completely tame and non-offensive stuff. Is it against the MN law to discuss single parents?

I am not a journalist, MNHQ can I'm sure see that I have been a regular mumsnetter for years. I was just trying to have a discussion about perceptions of single parent families. I am a single parent myself, I am a long term member of MN. I don't get it :(

Anyway, thank you to all those rational people who replied, luckily I had collected everyone's answers and will be able to use them in my assignment so your kind efforts weren't wasted

I hid it. but assume it broke the talk guide lines in some way

SaraSidle · 11/03/2012 22:59

Indeed!

(told you it would end badly)

blackoutthesun · 11/03/2012 23:01

MNHQ can I'm sure see that I have been a regular mumsnetter for years

then you should know the talk guideline then

Starwisher · 11/03/2012 23:05

What guideline was broken?

singlemumperceptions · 11/03/2012 23:05

I don't understand what you mean blackout? I have just read the talk guidelines and it doesn't say anything about asking questions for an assignment? Unless I am missing something? And I don't see anything offensive about discussing perceptions of single parenthood. Unless the world has literally gone mad?

Sorry you seem so unhappy with your status as single parent Sara I certainly meant no offence. My assignment was actually to do with exploding the myths surrounding this area. I personally feel not one ounce of shame nor victimhood in being a single parent

2shoes · 11/03/2012 23:06

well the op didn't want to talk, she was using mn as her homework aid. so I assume mn decided to delete.

singlemumperceptions · 11/03/2012 23:06

My question exactly starwisher, I would genuinely like to know if any moderators are willing to tell me?

OP posts:
2shoes · 11/03/2012 23:08

why not email them?

SaraSidle · 11/03/2012 23:08

Not unhappy with being a'lone' parent ( do get it right) AT ALL!!!

One look at the relationships section here on mn makes me thankful I don't have all that nonsense to deal with!!

BoysAreLikeDogs · 11/03/2012 23:09

points to link carefully placed

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 11/03/2012 23:10

Why not report your post and ask MNHQ?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 11/03/2012 23:10
SaraSidle · 11/03/2012 23:10

You say you are a longstanding mumsnetter ? then why are you asking about moderators? What moderators??

singlemumperceptions · 11/03/2012 23:10

Ah! I see now boys, it is clear now thanks. Wow, what a strange world we live in. I remember when forums were there for the members, not to make money, jumpers for goal posts, tar for chewing gum.....

Actually if you'd had chance to read the whole thread 2shoes I did make several lengthy responses at the end of the post.

Maybe they didn't x-check your user name? Why didn't you use your normal name?

Spero · 11/03/2012 23:11

fwiw I think it is outrageous to expect someone in the ops position to pay £30 to ask a few questions. I can see the point for professional journalists or organisations. But not for this.

Sorry, I didn't get the memo that I can't call myself a single parent anymore. Can't say that 'lone' parent sounds anymore noble, so I will stick with single parent if that is ok with you Sara.

2shoes · 11/03/2012 23:12

I just hid it as I hate the help me with my course work threads, it was either that or report,
I assume someone did report it and it got deleted.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 11/03/2012 23:12

oh hahhahahha at MN not a money making affair, v drole

SaraSidle · 11/03/2012 23:13

Assume both got deleted then.

Spero · 11/03/2012 23:14

It is a money making affair off the backs of its contributors, many of whom cannot afford £30 to ask some questions. Or why not some sliding scale? £5 for the feckless benefit scrounging single mother. Sorry, 'lone mother'.

2shoes · 11/03/2012 23:15

wtf has being a single parent got to do with the price of chips.

imaging mn if there were no rules it would be full of course work and petitions

SaraSidle · 11/03/2012 23:15

£30 is cheap

Starwisher · 11/03/2012 23:16

Was was the thread not just moved then, instead of deleted?
