to ask why on earth my thread was deleted?

I asked a few questions about perceptions of single parents for my sociology assignment, whicanyh is to do with comparing the perception of single parents with the reality.

A very few people seemed to think I was being provocative. Most people were supportive and there were lots of interesting comments.

I now find that it's been deleted!?! What on earth? Compared to most of the stuff I read on AIBU it was completely tame and non-offensive stuff. Is it against the MN law to discuss single parents?

I am not a journalist, MNHQ can I'm sure see that I have been a regular mumsnetter for years. I was just trying to have a discussion about perceptions of single parent families. I am a single parent myself, I am a long term member of MN. I don't get it :(

Anyway, thank you to all those rational people who replied, luckily I had collected everyone's answers and will be able to use them in my assignment so your kind efforts weren't wasted

Sara you seem to be very stressed out this evening. I wonder if you read my response on the thread at all? You seemed determined to take offence where absolutely none was intended. By moderator, I mean MNHQ who deleted my post when it was reported by somebody. Is moderator not the right word, have I committed another dreadful mistake?

Ho hum. It takes all sorts.

well 2shoes, you could take the extremely radical step of NOT ENGAGING with threads you don't like. But I can see how difficult that might be, what with the man with the gun pointing it at your head and all.

£30. Yes. Very cheap. It must be nice in your happy world Sara.

garlicbutter · 11/03/2012 23:17

Hang on, a single mum, on mumsnet, has to pay £30 to talk about perceptions of single mums because she said it was for her coursework?

Shock

Note taken, in case I ever get around to doing another course.
I shall lie!

2shoes · 11/03/2012 23:18

as I said I hid it.
then the op did this thread
are you now in charge Spero?

Spero · 11/03/2012 23:19

I know. Disgusting honest bitch. That will show her.

I don't recall this happening to the poster who put a question up for her son's fricking A level course work or some such. Everyone was falling over themselves to help him out.

SaraSidle · 11/03/2012 23:19

Grin moderator!!

It's Olivia, justine, Rowan or whoever is unfortunate to be working.

Spero · 11/03/2012 23:20

Yup. I am in charge.

If it makes you happy to believe that.

Just pointing out that you had your remedy. You hid the thread. Now you have reanimated your zombie ire and come in all complaining. What is the bloody point of that?

Irked now.

2shoes · 11/03/2012 23:20

you seem to be more irked that you need to be.

Spero · 11/03/2012 23:21

And she said moderator!

Frankly, I'm getting my big bag of stones ready.

Do you people have ANY kind of lives?

SaraSidle · 11/03/2012 23:21

Do you?

Spero · 11/03/2012 23:22

You are quite right 2 shoes. I am needlessly irked by irksome people. And there is absolutely no sense in that.

Maybe a few more chocolate digestives will help.

singlemumperceptions · 11/03/2012 23:22

Sara the single parent pressure group Gingerbread use the term 'single parent' so that will do just fine for me. I would find £30 quite difficult to come by actually, I am on benefits (oh the shame), but embarking on an access to HE course to try and move myself into education instead.

I didn't use my regular name because I don't want the 100 odd people on my course at college, or my teacher who would have needed to see a copy of the thread, to recognise me, as my usual name(s) contain posts that mention very personal life issues. Plus, I am a regular name changer anyway, this is not criminal, just sensible.

What's wrong with moderator now? Is it un-pc to refer to people by job tittles now? Confused

HolyNoSheDittantBatman · 11/03/2012 23:22

anything else Sara?

Spero · 11/03/2012 23:23

Thanks for your concern Sara. I am sure a few chocolate digestives will put me right.

Well, you've learned your lesson op. Next time, just lie.

Honeydragon · 11/03/2012 23:23

Is not simply copyright? Mnet own the entire content if the site so you'd need their permission to use the comments?

2shoes · 11/03/2012 23:23

Lol spero! Grin

Spero · 11/03/2012 23:25

oops 2 shoes, your kind cuppa came to late to stifle my angry comment re arses. Will calm down now and have a drink.

Spero · 11/03/2012 23:27

Exactly Honeydragon. Mumsnet can pimp out anything you say any place anytime for the money. But they can't let a single mother ask some questions.

What is the world coming to I ask you.

singlemumperceptions · 11/03/2012 23:27

Spero I am also feeling the need for chocolate! Oh terribly sorry Sara I didn't realise that you were on first name terms with the moderators, oops, I mean the, erm, erm, what should I call them? How about 'naice moderators'?

I was up front about my assignment because I am, you know an honest person, and didn't want to start a fake debate from which I could have gleaned info.

Maybe for my psychology module I will do some research on 'bizarre behaviour on forums'.

OP posts:
Spero · 11/03/2012 23:29

Well op your research cup will runneth over here.

Still have not had my biscuit as keep pressing 'refresh' and dribbling a little.

Helpmehelpmehelpme.

sassymcnassy · 11/03/2012 23:30

If you're in college you should know that ethically you should get the permission of website owners to use them for research purposes. It's a standard requirement, and, I would have thought, rather obvious.
Its a social forum, not a goldfish bowl for people to utilise for their own purposes.

singlemumperceptions · 11/03/2012 23:31

You are right spero I shall drag my unhip, poor and let's face it, flabby, ass away in shame.
