not buggie, stroller or any other toss.

I'll punch anyone in the gob who dares disagree with me

Now, I am an expert in 'prams' or whatever you want to call them, (not in the sense 'I've had 10 prams so that makes me an expert'- my entire career to date has involved baby equipment and in particular, prams/pushchairs etc,) so do not argue with me! Grin

There are only 3 categories. Pram, pushchair, stroller.

Pram(perambulator) has to have a carrycot to be classed as a pram. when a carrycot is removed/converted it may well turn into a 'pushchair'
Anything else is a pushchair other than an umbrella fold style which is a stroller.
A travel system can fall into all 3 of these categories, as it just means it is car seat compatible (either included or sold separately)

a 'Buggy' is a non official slang word for any of the above, and I despise the word.
I also despise people using the term 'pram' for any of the above. tends to be people of the chav variety It only applies to a proper pram, not a shitty little stroller.

it is confusing as you could buy a pushchair, that is car seat and carry cot compatible, making it either a pram/pushchair/travel system depending what mode you are using it in.

Pram- coach built affair or frame with carry cot on top.
Pushchair- chair shaped seat that can also be reclined if desired.
Dummy- fake nipple on piece of plastic designed to stop babies from being permanently attached to their Mother's breast.
Nappy- poo and wee catcher.
Stroller- somebody taking a leisurely walk down a promenade or in a park.
Soother- cough sweet.
Diaper- American nonsense word Wink.

HTH.

NarkedPuffin · 06/03/2012 16:27

Prams are horizontal to the ground and allow a baby to lie flat.

If the baby/child isn't flat it aint no pram.

cocolepew · 06/03/2012 16:27

cos.

nickelhasababy · 06/03/2012 16:28

a buggy is a pushchair
yanbu about pram, though.
stroller is an american term , i believe.

LiamsMummyJaz · 06/03/2012 16:28

Well tbh JaneMare my pushchair doesn't actually lie down. I would say that reclines too. But my buggy goes flat. Is that the different.

I'm going to start calling them babytransporters! Saves on confusion Grin

LiamsMummyJaz · 06/03/2012 16:29

*difference stoopid stoopid phone!

JaneMare · 06/03/2012 16:30

Hmm at a 'buggy' that lies flat...really flat?

like _ this flat?

LiamsMummyJaz · 06/03/2012 16:32

Yea! Really really. I think. I don't even know anymore! Sad it defiantly goes flatter then my pushchair anyway.

I just use a sling, it saves the headaches

TheSurgeonsMate · 06/03/2012 16:38

I call mine a pram, but I know it isn't really. So I tend to sympathise with cocolepew. I doubt that she would sympathise with me, though.

Jenny70 · 06/03/2012 16:40

I will be sure to issue an international memo, so all countries adopt the cocolepew terminology.... after all there is no room in this world for a bit of diversity.

It may annoy you, but sheez - who knows why people use the terms they do, maybe they had their baby overseas and learned the local lingo, maybe they've watched too much tv, maybe they are clueless, but save the irate rant for something a little more worthy... please.

cocolepew · 06/03/2012 16:40

I might, I can't keep up being Ms. Angry. It's tiring

coco - That is so f***g patronising to pat a random stranger on the head! Really? Do you have no boundaries at all? I bet you have no boundaries with your kids either? I bet they are the type of horrors that run about screaming in the supermarket, chucking things of shelves while you are too busy patting random strangers on the head to even notice.

Really do other mns think it is okay to just pat random strangers on the head? Technically you know it could be seen as assault

lesley33 · 06/03/2012 16:43

Grin I did warn you

overmydeadbody · 06/03/2012 16:43

A pram is a flat bottomed thing.

The only proper term for the other sort of thing is a pushchair.

I hate the word 'buggy' and will never use it. EVER.

End of thread.

OP posts:
LiamsMummyJaz · 06/03/2012 16:48

cocolepew thanks for confusing me! It's not a hard task though Grin

diddl · 06/03/2012 16:49

How on earth is push chair posh?

It is what it is -a pushable chairGrin

Buggies tend (imo) to have annoying small, swivelly wheels.

Honeydragon · 06/03/2012 16:51

Buggys go on golf courses and moons

It is a Pushchair as it is a chair designed to be pushed

whereas

a wheelchair is a chair designed to be wheeled be either occupant or attendant

Now Cocolepew SHUT THE FUCK UP AND BASK IN MY SUPERIOR LOGIC YOU WANK WEASEL.
