To ring the council and ask them to deal with this

Some c**t has kindly allowed their dog to shit on the corner outside our house- a route commonly used by kids going to school/oldies on their merry way. I cant bring myself to move someone elses dogs shit nor should I have to but I dont want it sat outside the house being trod in and walked all around the neighbourhood. WIBU to ring the council and ask them to sort this environmental health risk as tbh im fucking fuming

Its a £80 fine here but reduced to £50 if you pay it within a certain time. SIL was recently fined for not picking up her dog's shit. Council here had a really big crack down recently because of so many complaints about the state of paths etc.

There are four new piles of shit on the path outside dd's school which appeared between drop off and walking back down. There are a dozen or so parents who take dogs with them on the school run and there is one who picks it up but leaves the bag on the pavement or hanging on the fence.

LilacWaltz · 05/03/2012 09:57

What about cats??

Do you report cat poo too.....isn't that more dangerous than dog poo??

iamme43 · 05/03/2012 09:58

We had a windy night a few weeks ago and some bins were blown over. Do I pick up the rubbish [not my bin took 4 mins] or should I ring the council and tell them

'' help theres rubbish on the road'' ''litter alert litter alert''

EauDeLaPoisson · 05/03/2012 09:58

I do not have a dog as I find having to clean up dog shit intolerable, why should I be clearing up after somone elses dog, if they cant be asked they should let the dog crap in their houses/gardens/driveways, I have chosen not to deal with this by not getting a pet dog in the first place

My point exactly....

OP posts:
southeastastra · 05/03/2012 09:58

if people don't report it how can councils record the problem?

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 05/03/2012 09:58

And you seem to think that those who say 'move it yourself' allow their dogs to crap on the pavement and leave it there?

Very wrong there op.

I have a dog and we always pick up the poop. Poop is vile and I wouldn't want or expect someone else to move ir

LilacWaltz · 05/03/2012 09:59

I reckon every single one of us could go outside now, walk a few yards and spot some poo of some sort......should we all ring the council then?? Seriously?

IAmBooyhoo · 05/03/2012 09:59

"Everyone who says 'clean it yourself' is just adding to the problem that if people dont take responsibility for their own pets foul then someone else will just deal with it for them- its ok"

but you ringing the council is not making the culprit deal with it is it? it's still someone else cleaning up after them, just not you and at some expense to the tax payer.

"And yes im getting a bit arsey as the 'you deal with it' tone of some of these posts are the exact attitude people who allow their pets to do this have."

wrong.

EauDeLaPoisson · 05/03/2012 09:59

A bin blowing over is nothing like someone allowing their pet to shit outside on the pavement Iamme what a ridiculous comparison....

JaneMare · 05/03/2012 10:00

if you want to put words in people's mouths, OP then how about i think it's dog owners with YOUR attitude that sees us with shitty pavements?

pinkyp · 05/03/2012 10:01

Op is very angry, over dog poo-you've reported it do it's being felt with, chill Wink

iamme43 · 05/03/2012 10:01

bin blowing over / dog poo.

ringing the council .... waste of resources.

sunshineandbooks · 05/03/2012 10:01

If it was my house I'd just deal with it (and frequently do), but the OP isn't being unreasonable to be pissed off about it. It's so, so selfish and I say that as a dog owner myself.

Scary police state moment here, but I'd actually be quite happy for all dogs to have DNA taken when they register at a vet, then that info entered onto a national database that local councils can access and compare samples to collected off the street. Punishment: £100 fine every time. I reckon we'd see a big cleanup rate.

iamme43 · 05/03/2012 10:01

To the OP do tell us when the offending article is removed by the council.... if at all.

EauDeLaPoisson · 05/03/2012 10:02

The council here have a dog fouling campaign, they come and clean the shite then spray the pavement orange and put signs up reminding dog owners of the fact they can get fined if they dont clean their dogs crap up. But hey why bother with that, lets just clean the shit up for them and let them do it time and time again without consequence hey? Wouldnt want it to cost the taxpayer after all!!

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 05/03/2012 10:02

Your bins blowing into the road is totally different from somone elses dog pooing on the pavement.

I will happily pick up bits of litter around my gate and on the pavement as I walk past.

Buggered if I am going to pick up dog poo unless it came out of my dog's arse.

Particularly as the size of the poos round here are sometimes bigger than my actual dog.

It is a hazard and of course it is part of the council's remit to deal with it. Like road kill and fly tipping.

Someone dumped a sofa on the green, lets not bother the council, lets go knocking on doors and see if we can get together a working party to pull it to the tip. Hmm

Marymaryalittlecontrary · 05/03/2012 10:02

I don't think YABU.

I have the same problem. My house has a back lane behind it, so the roller shutter door of the back yard backs onto the back lane. 2 weeks ago when I put the bins out I noticed a big pile of poo right where the shutter meets the back lane. I ignored it, and my husband mentioned it the other day. I put the bins out this morning and it still looks really 'fresh' so I don't know if it's the same poo or the council or someone has been along and cleared it once and then a dog owner has allowed the dog to poo in the same place again!

I haven't cleared it up and I am not going to. For one thing I don't think the lane has a drain, so I can't wash it away. The other reason is, I just can't bring myself to!

I haven't phoned the council though because I would feel a bit hypocritical. I have cats, and while 2 come in to use a litter tray the other one does go outside. I've no idea where. I have never seen poo around that my cat might have done but obviously it is going somewhere (not behind my house - much too big to have come from my petite cat!)!

TheCunningStunt · 05/03/2012 10:03

It's pretty grim where we live...there is not a street we walk on to school that doesn't have a poo on it Sad

LilacWaltz · 05/03/2012 10:03

Orange spray???

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 05/03/2012 10:04

Like I said, if that's all you have to worry about I wouldn't mind being you for a day.

Get a brew and chill out!

JaneMare · 05/03/2012 10:04

and, if your local council is so reactive about moving dog shit, wtf are you asking MN for?

Grin
EauDeLaPoisson · 05/03/2012 10:04

Yes I am angry, its just seems to be another selfish attitude all round and it makes me sad and cross. Deal with it yourself, its no problem is the tone of most people on here. Thus the problem continues and the selfish owners realise they dont need to clean up after their dog, someone else will.

OP posts:
LilacWaltz · 05/03/2012 10:05

And cat poo??? Does that have you all running to the council too??

Op... Some elderly person will probably remove it before the council will....

GetOrfMoiiLand · 05/03/2012 10:05

I know it's revolting, I don't have a dog and dog shit everywhere is absolutely vile, and the dog owners need a kick up the arse.

But I don't see the point in ringing the council over this - yes if it was a repeated offender and you could tell them 'bob from no 87 lets his dog shit everywhere' but for one random occasion of shit? No.

EauDeLaPoisson · 05/03/2012 10:06

Well actually Boys no, im worried about a whole lot more, health issues of family but I wont bore you with that, clearly this means I shouldnt care less about piles of dog crap on the pavement though
