A month out of standard shop guarantee - breaks down. Get it repaired and then buy an annual repair policy as it works out cheaper to do that than purchase new machine (+ I loathe throwing stuff away).

1st break down was in August

October darn thing floods my kitchen and the flat below - get it repaired.
Feb 6th - PCB board goes - get it repaired
Today - darn thing has started leaking yet again - repairman due Monday.

Am being unreasonable to think this is totally unacceptable in a machine less than 3 years old?. (Previous machines from other manufacturers have all lasted minimum 5-10 years before needing ANY repairs!).

I can't afford a new machine till the end of this year but am currently thinking next time I'll have to go for a fancy brand like Bosch or Miele (and take out a small mortage to do it).

OP posts:
flipflopper · 02/03/2012 14:55

my repair man says a beko is as good as a bosch, and that panasonic are crap now.

My beko is only a year old,not had to get it fixed yet, fingers crossed. Think its just the luck of the draw tbh.

I know that they only expect a machine to last 5yrs now.

flipflopper · 02/03/2012 14:56

sorry, not panasonic,meant hotpoint

HintofBream · 02/03/2012 14:59

I hate my Beko, useless spin, interminably long cycle. It is, I think, 6 years old and shows no sign of packing up, so no real justification for replacing it. We had a humble little Indesit for years, it was great, can't think why we did not get another when it finally died.

Jins · 02/03/2012 15:01

My Beko is going strong after two years. It cost less than £200 for a 8kg washer, it's borderline whether a repair makes economic sense now.

I've had hotpoints go after 15 months. My best machine so far was an Indesit that did 8 years

Debs75 · 02/03/2012 15:05

I've just got a BEKO dryer and wanted the washer to go with it as my old hotpoint (8 years) is out of warranty and when it next goes will be the 5th time it breaks

carabos · 02/03/2012 15:07

I'll second that OP. DH bought the Beko without consulting me when the previous machine turned up its toes. It's a horror. Its huge, it's silver, it takes all day to do a wash and even with the time save it takes about 90 min. It mysteriously decides not to spin if there's one bulky item in it.

I hate it and if it ever goes wrong, I'm binning it.

Jins · 02/03/2012 15:09

How weird. Quick cycle on mine is 39mins and it spins brilliantly. I love my Beko

eatyouwithaspoon · 02/03/2012 15:09

I have had a Beko dishwasher for just over a year, I have given up with it, it broke down after about a week and regularly since then, a waste of money and space.

I have a Beko, just over a year old and had no problems, quick cycle of 39 minutes, a bit noisy but I can live with that. Previous machine was a Samsung that cost me a fortune, was fab until the electric circuit board blew up! It was under 3 years old and replacing it was over £200. Shock. Repair guy told me the best (most reliable) brands were Miele & Siemens but I needed a quick cheap replacement.

scaryteacher · 02/03/2012 15:45

'My best machine so far was an Indesit that did 8 years'

I'll raise you a preloved Indesit that did from 1986-93, and another Indesit that did 93-07 (and only died because I moved it to Belgium and it didn't like the hard water here).

Jins · 02/03/2012 15:47

So the moral of the story is to buy Indesit :)

NarkedPuffin · 02/03/2012 15:51

I wouldn't touch them after the way they handled the recall of their fridge-freezers.

NarkedPuffin · 02/03/2012 15:53

Here. They were informed of the fire risk long before this man died because of their product.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/03/2012 16:19

I had a Beko fridge and it did the job fine (but I think fridges are pretty full proof. They work or don't).Very easy to get the shelves out to clean.

My tumble dryer is a Hotpoint ( bought in sale as urgently needed a TD) as is my dishwasher (bought from Howdens as needed a fully intergrated DW to go in new kitchen)
Both have been repaired at least twice. The door catch to the TD keeps failing.

I've had Hotpoint WM which have been fine.

And years ago Zanussi (before they became Zan/Electrolux) they were indistructable Confused

PintOfStellaAndBuckfastChaser · 02/03/2012 16:25

I've had my BEKO washing machine for three years in may, and so far so good!

I think it's a hit or a miss, with any brand.
When I moved in here, ten years ago, I bought a whirlpool, my mother bought exactly the same model, a month before me, and she had nothing but trouble with hers, it was constantly breaking down, and she ended up replacing it after three years.
My one lasted seven years, it just stopped working one day, mid cycle, so I replaced it with the BEKO, as I was skint and it was only £195.
As I've already said, it's been ok, so far. Although I'm with the other posters on it taking forever to do a wash!

I bought a BEKO cooker, 18 months ago, and two weeks after I bought it, the oven and one of the hobs stopped working. The repair man told me that this was a problem with alot of them, because apparently some part was missing when they were made Hmm but it's working fine now. Apart from one of the knobs for the hob, which has fell off, but I can still turn it on and off, just!

sunshineandbooks · 02/03/2012 16:47

I"m going to throw a spanner in the washing machine works and say a bit fat NO to Indesit.

I bought a new indesit - the first and only new washing machine I have ever bought - and it's the one I've had most problems with. I feel cheated. Sad

The motor went, the spring holding up the drum went, and the door catch went twice. Fortunately, the motor went while it was still under warranty (less than 6 months after I'd bought it), but the rest of the problems I've had to fix myself. As I refused to pay £45 for a complete new door - again - when it was only the catch that was broken, I now have a cunning arrangement involving blu tak, no more nails, and a metal pole from a in-tray riser. It seems to work. Grin

Googling has informed me that this is a major design fault with indesit machines caused by using plastic fittings that are too thin and not strong enough to cope with the stress against the door when the machine is on.

snowmummy · 02/03/2012 17:40

We had a beko freezer years ago. It lasted, oooh, all of about two minutes.

I like my white goods to:

a) Be energy efficient
b) Be well made
c) Not start fatal house fires

Pixel · 02/03/2012 19:35

Best machine I had was an Ariston. When we first bought it we moved half a dozen times the first year and dragged it along with us, then we settled in a pub and put it in the cellar. It worked non-stop for the ten years of our lease, doing all the washing for a family of four adults and two children, plus everything for the pub and busy kitchen, which as you can imagine was a lot of washing! It even survived a serious cellar fire that closed the pub and made us homeless for three months. We fitted it up to a generator and were going down to the cellar with torches to wash all our curtains and soft furnishings in relays before we moved back in. When we left it was blackened and covered in paint splashes but still going strong.

Just bought a Beko cooker. Haven't had it a week yet and already we know it is a BIG mistake. I feel depressed every time I look at the bloomin' thing!

Mandy2003 · 02/03/2012 20:07

I've got an 8 year old Beko, the most basic £199 model. I bought it to "tide me over" after the loss of my 25 year old Zanussi (whose door disintegrated, and lives on as a fruit bowl!), but it just-keeps-going!! It does seem to have a draining problem at the moment, but it rights itself if ignored(!)

The first one of this model that I had, though, lasted one day before being replaced: the concrete weight inside hadn't been attached properly and on the first use the machine hurled itself across the floor and was on its way downstairs before I reached the off switch Hmm

HandMini · 02/03/2012 20:12

I have a BEKO fridge, dishwasher and washing machine. All have been fine so far (coming up to 2.5 year mark). Touches lots of wood as hurls another 8kg of washing in.

I've just laid my beloved Bosch to rest after 13 years of faithful service. It died spectacularly 10 days ago. Tomorrow I take delivery of a new LG washer, after lots of research LG came out well. We will see.

thenightsky · 02/03/2012 20:20

*Pixel' sad to hear about the Beko cooker... I had my eye on one as I thought it was the best looked in a long row in comet.
