A month out of standard shop guarantee - breaks down. Get it repaired and then buy an annual repair policy as it works out cheaper to do that than purchase new machine (+ I loathe throwing stuff away).

1st break down was in August

October darn thing floods my kitchen and the flat below - get it repaired.
Feb 6th - PCB board goes - get it repaired
Today - darn thing has started leaking yet again - repairman due Monday.

Am being unreasonable to think this is totally unacceptable in a machine less than 3 years old?. (Previous machines from other manufacturers have all lasted minimum 5-10 years before needing ANY repairs!).

I can't afford a new machine till the end of this year but am currently thinking next time I'll have to go for a fancy brand like Bosch or Miele (and take out a small mortage to do it).

We had a Hotpoint (Which best buy in 1990) that we passed on to our neighbour when we got an all-integrated kitchen (never again!).

23 years old & it is still going strong for him and we are on our second integrated washing machine in the meantime (although the AEG we got the last time is 10 years old & going strong).

So to summarise, ancient Hotpoint = fantastic, new(ish) AEG = brilliant, Whirlpool = bag of shite :)

DesperatelyChasingBloodyDog · 19/03/2013 20:59

My Miele just died - after 17 years of washing.

whats4teamum · 19/03/2013 21:01

Bosch are awful. I have a badly designed dishwasher which front panel snapped off and a tumble dryer that I have had to superglue the handle back on to. All cunningly just out of warranty. Avoid.

Trills · 19/03/2013 21:04

YABU because you seem to have had just the one bad machine - that's not a sensible reason to avoid a whole brand.

mum382013 · 19/03/2013 21:07

beko tumble dryer 2 years old and too many repairs to mention, over 10 at least. the neighbours think im having an affair with the repair bloke!

WandaDoff · 19/03/2013 21:14

It's a zombie thread.

I thought FabbyChic was back for a minute then. I miss her.

digerd · 19/03/2013 21:19

What does everyone mean by 'warranty'?. Most electrical goods give only 1 year guarantee, but Trading Standards have lists of legally how long a certain item should last and if anything goes wrong before that, the firm who sold it to you is responsible for repairing it free of charge. Found this out when my boiler ater 3 years went wrong - they should last for at least 6 years.

Didn't ask about washing machines. I bought a Hoover washer/dryer in 1998 with an extended 3 year guarantee for about the same price as the item - so paid almost double the price. Something small went wrong and had the technician down every year who eventually replaced everything by 2003.
He told me that I must have had one of the older makes as most Hoovers don't last even 5 years. The dryer went the following year but still washes and we live in a very hard water area.

Oh dear, this is scaring me! I bought a Beko washing machine two months ago, have used it three times a week since then and so far it's working perfectly. I agree it's a bit noisy and vibrates a lot on spin cycle if it's under/overloaded, but its cycles are very short (except on Eco programmes but I think that's normal). Express wash takes only 28 mins and gets stuff clean. No problem with spin speed either - goes up to 1400 rpm and things come out just a bit damp. Cheap too, at 296 euro (around £250) for 6kg version. We have a water softener in this building, but I'm still hedging my bets by putting in a Calgon tablet every two weeks. And now I know about the fire risk I'll never leave it running at night or if I'm out. Fingers crossed...

burberryqueen · 06/07/2013 02:02

well i have a beko machine and have used it non stop for the last three years with no problems.....

Longdistance · 06/07/2013 02:33

I bought a Beko washing machine with my first house back in 2001, and it still works to this day, as our tenants are using it.

However, the fridge freezer bought at the same time died a death in 2006.

sashh · 06/07/2013 03:38

According to trading standards white goods should last at least 6 years, go back to whoever sold it to you ad demand a replacement, or a significant amount towards a replacement.

raisah · 06/07/2013 08:21

I have a bosch, I bought it 7 years ago for about £300 & it is brilliant. Will buy another when the time comes.

CwtchesAndCuddles · 06/07/2013 09:28

I LOVE my Beko machine!!! Beko was recommended to me by the engineer who condemned my old machine.

The quick wash feature is fab - I can do an 8 kg load in less than an hour. My mum has just bought one to replace her old machine because she liked mine.

mumandboys123 · 06/07/2013 10:08

I have a beko - gets used at least twice a day and is going strong now after about 4 years. Prior to that I had a miele - only lasted about 5 years (was just out of warranty) and the motherboard went and would have cost a small fortune to fix. I was advised never to get one again as their parts are so expensive. Prior to the miele I had an indesit that lasted only a year so would never buy from them again.

It really is hit and miss, I think!

plainjaney · 06/07/2013 10:18

My mum had a beko, she's 77 and lives alone with her dog so you can imagine the mountains of washing she generates....

Anyway, 13 months after buying it the pcb failed. I wanted to take the issue further as beko wanted money to come out and fix it but mum said it was worse than useless from the off and she was over the moon it had packed in.

I had an ancient creda machine that my late dad got me when he worked there. Never had a problem with it and loved it but when it finally gave up and we replaced it with an LG direct drive I realised how slow and inefficient it actually was. Older machines don't have a 30 wash which is more than adequate for most of my loads.

melika · 06/07/2013 10:22

Beko would not tempt me, I would be scared of it.

Pumpkinette · 06/07/2013 10:33

I think unless you are willing to spend the cash on a Miele or something else in that price range (£1,000 +) then you are lucky to get beyond 3 - 5 years.

I currently have an LG direct drive and I love it. Not expecting it to last beyond 5 years, so I'm currently saving for a Miele and you will get 10 years plus from them. My mum had a beco washing machine and only got 18 months before it needed replaced. She replaced it woth another beco. Hmm

hardbeingme · 06/07/2013 10:40

like my beko too, 7 kilo load (not that i have ever worried about the weight of my wash!) and i usually do all my washing on the daily quick on either 40, 50 or 60 temp and they're all less than an hour.

the reason we went for beko moving in 9 years ago we bought brand new hotpoint everything (as we wanted them to match) this was the dishwasher, fridge, tumble dryer and washing machine; one arrived with a missing part and within a year three had broken completely.

we have kept the fridge going by defrosting regularly yes it is frost free but ice builds up behind the panel at the back of the freezer, the tumble dryer is fine but has fairly light use

after paying.repair fees a few times decided we were throwing good money after bad and replaced the dw and wm with anything other than hotpoint and guess what? they pretty much make all of the other brands - AEG bosch candy etc, can't afford miele so went for beko so far so good.

dchew · 04/10/2014 12:21

Bought a new Beko washing machine to replace my aging LG washer, and regretted it ! After each wash cycle with Beko, I have to add another spin cycle so I don't get dripping wet clothes. Should have bought another LG.
Called Beko to ask for money back within the 7 days, and they refused siting that there is nothing wrong with the machine, and if there is something wrong with the machine, they will fix it.
So, the advertisement of "30 days money back guarantee" is nothing but a gimmick !

Buy cheap..buy twice.
After a hotpoint disaster I only ever buy german.
And it makes me sad to write that.

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 04/10/2014 14:06

My BUSH machine has just broken (it broke on Monday morning), it was 16 months old!!
I am fuming. We bought it to replace a Hotpoint which only lasted 2 and a half years.
The weight at the front of the machine dropped down off the drum and broke. We didn't have cover and could afford to pay to have it fixed. My lovely FIL stepped in and bought us a second hand Hotpoint from Ebay for £50. The Bush couldn't have broken at a worse time. I have been in and out of hospital for the last 2 weeks for emergency treatment and am on bedrest when at home, DH is freelance so not earning at the moment (hence no money to sort the machine!).

Just hope the Hotpoint lasts us a good few months so we have time to save up some emergency cash to cover another machine.

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 04/10/2014 14:07

*and could NOT afford to pay to have it fixed.

BlueThursday · 04/10/2014 14:58

Sometimes it's just luck. Had a Hoover machine that lasted just over a year and broke twice in that time. Binned it and bought a Samsung
