A month out of standard shop guarantee - breaks down. Get it repaired and then buy an annual repair policy as it works out cheaper to do that than purchase new machine (+ I loathe throwing stuff away).

1st break down was in August

October darn thing floods my kitchen and the flat below - get it repaired.
Feb 6th - PCB board goes - get it repaired
Today - darn thing has started leaking yet again - repairman due Monday.

Am being unreasonable to think this is totally unacceptable in a machine less than 3 years old?. (Previous machines from other manufacturers have all lasted minimum 5-10 years before needing ANY repairs!).

I can't afford a new machine till the end of this year but am currently thinking next time I'll have to go for a fancy brand like Bosch or Miele (and take out a small mortage to do it).

I was going to get a beko dishwasher until that woman and her children died in a housefire caused by a faulty beko freezer.

I bought a Bosch Logixx one instead, the logixx ones are built in Germany so very solid and energy effiecient.

aquashiv · 02/03/2012 21:42

Beko is rubbish.
Hotpoint and Indecit are the same compnay now.
They are all rubbish really. I have that insurance cover and use it regularly.

FabbyChic · 02/03/2012 21:45

Ive had my Beko for 7 years, works perfectly just like it did when I got it and never gone wrong ever.

FabbyChic · 02/03/2012 21:45

Mine had a draining problem needed the filter clearing at the bottom.

Molehillmountain · 02/03/2012 21:51

Blimey-our zanussi is all right then-nearly twelve years old.

Pixel · 02/03/2012 21:59

zukiecat, Please don't tell me it's going to last forever, I'll have to sabotage it Grin.
The oven is far too small, it cooks incredibly slowly and if I have it on full then it sets off our smoke alarm every time I open the door. Had my old cooker 8 years and it never did that!

Thenightsky I chose it because I wanted an eye level grill, maybe the other models are ok? We are kicking ourselves about the small oven because we didn't know the capacity of our old oven as it was given to us, so we went by the external measurements (which were the same), not realising that the inside would be so much smaller on this one. Will definitely check more thoroughly with the next one! The very slow cooking is not our fault though. It just took me an hour to cook some (not frozen) sausages with the oven on full power and even then they looked a bit pale. It'll probably take weeks to cook a christmas cake Wink.

I have a Beko washing machine and think for the money, its fine and not had any problems with it. For under £200, if anything went wrong, I think it would be cheaper to just replace it rather than pay for either engineer or a warranty - and you can get new delivered within 24 hours!

Jenstar21 · 03/03/2012 02:19

I am on my third cooker in 7 years, but that's partially my own fault for buying cheap shit ones 'because we'll be moving soon'. However, I would avoid Indesit like the plague. I had an Indesit washing machine, which was crap, and kept breaking down. I replaced it with a 9kg capacity Bosch, which was worth every penny. I also have a terrible terrible Indesit dishwasher. Actually, it's the third replacement Indesit dishwasher. I feel like throwing it out of the window on a weekly basis. In fact, if it exploded it would be doing us a favour. The repairmain looks at me as if I were the simplest person in the universe for buying one. :(

flossiebella · 03/03/2012 04:52

Indesit must be alright; I've just bought an identical one for the new unfurnished house that we had in the previous furnished house. We also got a good deal on a huge Zanussi fridge/freezer that is amazeballs.

My mum had a Hotpoint that was older than me & still going, albeit with a great deal of noise and a certain amount of leaping about the kitchen. My gran & great aunt clubbed together to buy her a new one which broke after 2 years. A repairman said it would need a new circuit board and it would be cheaper to replace the machine. My mother (ever the thrifty single mother, despite my rather well paid stepdad), found that if she started it on one cycle, then cancelled the programme when it got "stuck", flipped it to quick wash & asked it nicely it worked fine. 8 years later she's still doing this....

myBOYSareBONKERS · 03/03/2012 07:11

TheNightSky - have you had the temperature tested?

My mum brought a new oven and had the same problems (not sure of the make). She phoned the help line and they were rude to her accusing her of not knowing how to cook (NOT a very wise move!!).

The engineer eventually came out after much insistence and the oven was faulty and was cooking on a much lower heat setting then it should of.

FootprintsInTheSnow · 03/03/2012 07:19

My beko fridge lives in my mum's garage, where it is known as 'the chiller'. Only good for taking the chill off a chardonay - food would go off in it well before use by date.

We use John Lewis washing machine and tumbly. Very good no frills machines - and extra long warranty as standard.

x2boys · 03/03/2012 07:31

my beko washing machine lasted about 18 months before giving upthe ghost a few days after my second childwas born [not good] and prior to that it took about four hours to do a quick wash i agree there crap.

Bingdweller · 03/03/2012 07:32

Siemens or Bosch all they way here... Cannae go wrong with German! At least I hope not, cos if everything fails at once then we are mega skint!

hazygirl · 03/03/2012 07:43

lg here had for five years no problem.

Wretched · 03/03/2012 08:21

Hot point washing machine 10 years old and hot point dishwasher 5 years old here and no probs whatsoever. Probably jinxed them now! When I bought the dishwasher I took out a monthly policy to protect it, and added the washer on too. If they break and can't be repaired they will replace them. But I've been paying the policy for 5 years with no call outs so I've wasted about 500 pounds or more! So I'm going to cancel it and save the money up instead. They will probably both break in the same week now!

manticlimactic · 03/03/2012 08:35

I've just replaced my Indesit machine. Bought in 1993, so 19 years Shock. It still worked, a bit noisy on the spin cycle, that's why I got another as it shook the whole house but would have probably carried on for another year or so.

coraltoes · 03/03/2012 11:47

Miele every time...otherwise Siemens. Those Germans sure make good appliances.

RuleBritannia · 03/03/2012 11:54

I had a Zanussi washing machine that was 18 years old in 1993. My husband moved in with his 15-year-old Zanussi so I sold mine because it was the older of the two for £80. Here we are in 2012 and his is still going after 32 years! After several years, if we needed anything electrical, we bought Zanussi if it were available.

IvanaHumpalot · 03/03/2012 15:17

Miele - ours came out of the ark with Noah and is still going strong (we are not kind to it). Also recommend John Lewis own brand. In fact if you buy through JL you'll get an extra year of warranty as standard.

pootlepootle · 03/03/2012 18:41

My Beko washing machine is fantastic. Loads less than the other options, washes in 39 minutes and has an easily understandable range of programmes. It is slightly noisier than I'd like but I can live with it. It is on constantly and takes a real hammering. Never do anything kind to it like clean it or do maintenance washes.

It's lived in three houses and never given a minute of trouble. Well, apart from when my dh forgot to remove the stopper from the end of the tube when we moved house and we stood there wondering why it wouldn't drain.

It's honestly the best washing machine i've ever had and I would buy Beko again. I have a fridge of there's that is still working 15 years from purchase and has moved house loads of times without upset.

KAYGEE58 · 19/03/2013 20:32

Just seems like the luck of the draw to me - have had a lot of BEKO appliances and they all work fine , no issues whatsoever. However,I always take out insurance on all my big appliances so if they go wrong and cant be mended, I get a voucher or a replacement .If you get 5 years from a machine these days you have done very well in my opinion. At three years, machines are quite worn and the tip of using Calgon is a good one , definitely makes your machine live longer .
The very worst washing machine I ever had was a Bosch - also the most expensive .
I once had a brand new Merc that was never out of the garage , it was very annoying but it didn't put me off buying another.

Fairylea · 19/03/2013 20:34

I have just had to replace my beko washing machine as after only 2 years the bearings completely went and the whole thing was rusted inside and rust was coming out all over the clothes! Absolutely awful !

I now have a shiny new Hoover machine and I'm hoping this one is a good un !

KAYGEE58 · 19/03/2013 20:35

Mmm , you've clearly never had a "Friday Afternoon "Mercedes !!! (wink)

FryOneFatManic · 19/03/2013 20:38

I have a 2 yr old BEKO washing machine, and it's fine, never been a problem. So they can't all be a problem.

MatureUniStudent · 19/03/2013 20:44

Three year old Beko washing machine here. Four DC and two are football loving boys. Love my Beko, no washing machine has lasted this long in my house. I do two washes a day and double on the weekend. Bosch couldn't cope with my hard water, but Beko can!
