To be rather ashamed and embarrassed that on Tuesday I did this for the first time in 2 years?

I cleaned out the bath plug. I can honestly say that it has never occurred to me to do it before! It was boakworthy. I could've made a new wig with all the hair I pulled out. There was a MAHOOOOOOOOSIVE clump of hair (about the size of a dwarf hamster) that I dread to think how many dead spiders were tangled up in it. I shall be doing it more regularly from now on. Although it was quite theraputic pulling all the hair out. . .

I do mine once a week of fortnightly and that is bad enough.

Ooh I love cleaning the plug, so satisfying! Mine needs a good clean but have no idea how to get into the pipe to get it all out

fedupofnamechanging · 02/03/2012 14:33

it's all these cleaning threads. I know regularly open all the windows in the house, even though I'm freezing, and in the last week have done a maintenance wash for the machine and cleaned the inside and outside of the windows.

And now I have to go and pull gunk out of the plug hole Sad

poinsetta · 02/03/2012 14:34

I bought a special devise from one of those men who sell household stuff door to door for just this job. Haven't tried it yet so can't tell you if it works or not so about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

fedupofnamechanging · 02/03/2012 14:34

Why have I put a k in now? Blush. I can spell, honestly.

flipflopper · 02/03/2012 15:04

errr, how do you clean out a plughole? Blush

lesley33 · 02/03/2012 15:07

I use tweezers, but thanks to mns am now planning to try veet. Apparently pound shop sells it.

TapirBackRider · 02/03/2012 15:09

Veet or another cheap hair removing cream is the way to go - poundland is where I get mine.

fuzzpig · 02/03/2012 15:10

I have a plug hole guard, it's a metal disc shape that sits in the plug hole when I have a shower as I moult like a freaking Labrador :(

Clytaemnestra · 02/03/2012 15:17

What's a maintanence wash for the washing machine? Blush

imnotmymum · 02/03/2012 15:20

Mine has a drum wash thing do not know what it is guess good to just have water flushing round. Never cleaned my plug but I am a bleach freak will look at it tonight though...

CoffeeDog · 02/03/2012 15:22

I did a maintnence wash last night... now feel propper grown up ;)

read you are supose to do a boil wash with nothing in it to clean all the pipes through etc...

Sparklingbrook · 02/03/2012 15:27

Need more info re plughole. I don't fancy it TBH. Sad

jaggythistle · 02/03/2012 15:27

I pull out the hair and then use occasional 'Mr Muscle Foaming Plughole cleaner' or whatever it's called. Goes right down and leaves the pipe all sparkly and degunked. If I am feeling brave (in between foam cleans) I take an old toothbrush to my shower drain - you can take the cap off and get in about it.

I have also done a maintenance wash :)

TheRealMrsHannigan · 02/03/2012 15:32

I use the Dr Bergman washing machine cleaner once every couple of months, cleans the drum etc and removes limescale build up and just generally freshens it all up. Grin

I use caustic soda for the plug and hope all the gook just dissolves away.

GavisconJunkie · 02/03/2012 15:55

:o @ karma me too I'm going to stop sitting on my arse looking at MN, it's causing too much work!

crystalglasses · 02/03/2012 15:59

My dh does it as all that hair and slime makes me want to puke. It looks like someone in our house regualry has good old nose clearout. Yuck and thrice yuck

agedknees · 02/03/2012 16:03

Thanks everyone, I was eating toast (forgot/too busy to have lunch) when I started reading this.

Thanks again.

LaurieFairyCake · 02/03/2012 16:03

I don't do mine.

I'm hoping to move before it clogs Grin

NarkedPuffin · 02/03/2012 16:09
