DD (3yo) is usually Ratbag in our house Blush...she even answers to that.

Shinyshoes1 · 28/02/2012 16:59

My DP calls our DD Princess , my friend calls her boy a prick Hmm needless to say we've fallen out recently

Shinyshoes1 · 28/02/2012 17:00

oh and he's 4yo and wonders why he's so agressive Hmm

Mrsgradgrind · 28/02/2012 17:02

I'm with you OP. I think daddy's little princesses grow into the nauseating spoilt brats who turn up on here as SILs from hell etc. What are princesses anyway? Essentially powerless over-dressed ornaments whose only sense of power is derived from daddy the king, or their prince or knight in shining armour. If I had daughters I'd want more for them.

I call mine whatever comes to mind. Also call the cat 'you big doofus'. Perhaps I should stop, maybe I'm hurting his self esteem Hmm Grin

The chickens will come home to roost when all these kids become hopelessly spoilt and they have a lifetime of disappointment when the rest of the world doesn't share the opionion of their parents!

What you on about?

Ragwort · 28/02/2012 17:11

YANBU. I can't bear any 'terms of endearment' or whatever the phrase is - I just call my DS by his name, I call my DH by his name and everyone else by their names. I loathe being called by any form of 'nickname'.

So there Grin.

Rhinos in what context do you call your DS ' l'il man ' ie: to his face as in 'time for tea l'il man' or when you are talking about him ? Confused - genuine question .

WilsonFrickett · 28/02/2012 17:11

I wouldn't call a DD princess because I am of the Dirty Den/Sharon in Eastenders age, but that's just me. I would far, far rather hear that than 'stupid wee c**t' which was a father at DS old school's regular term of endearment. I'd rather a child was hopelessly spoilt (though not sure the two things necessarily follow) than had to grow up with the lack of self-esteem that was coming out of that home.

MrsKittyFane · 28/02/2012 17:11

I don't like:
Princess
My little Prince
Sweetie
Sweetie Pie
Honey
Gorgeous
Beautiful

A woman who picked up her DD at the same time as me from after school club used to greet her with "oh Princess, I've missed yoooou, come and give Mummy a cuddle gorgeous, oh you're so beautiful..." and the like.

Jeeezzzusss..

MrsKittyFane · 28/02/2012 17:12

Forgot:
My little Man
My little soldier

blushingcrow · 28/02/2012 17:13

I never knew it upset people to hear parents being affectionate with their children.

The things you learn on MN.

MrsKittyFane · 28/02/2012 17:15

Don't like Dude either!

Also, whilst I'm at it, I'm not "Hun" or "mate" either

:o

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 28/02/2012 17:15

I got a special teeshirt printed for DD with Princess Neutropeania printed on it.

It was pink.

Does that make you vomit sneezecakes ?

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 28/02/2012 17:16

Little wanker is my favourite ever. I thank MN regularly for that gem Grin

Anyway OP, what do you propose people call their children? "Adequate"? Oh come here my little adequate, you Confused

I know there are people out there who don't like pet names but really, if there's ever an appropriate time to use a pet name it's with one's own family, surely?

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 28/02/2012 17:17

Quite , blushing.
Who knew people boaked at the sound of parents being kind and loving to their children Confused

EmmaCate · 28/02/2012 17:18

No. The term makes me think of Archie Moon for some reason. Actually Wilson has it - it's the whole eastend accent thing stemming from Dirty Den. It's the etymological equivalant of someone drooling, in my opinion.

I'm not blame free though. I sometimes call DS 'cute one' as in 'Come here, cute one.' And I have been known to pick up DD and say 'Hello, gorgeous girl.'

SayBoo · 28/02/2012 17:19

Little man makes me cringe

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 28/02/2012 17:20

Oh I refer to ds as gorgeous all the time. Maybe I'm giving him ideas.

I shall call him "acceptably good looking and not too much of a disappointment" from hereon.

Mrsgradgrind · 28/02/2012 17:20

I'm very affectionate to my children, doesn't mean I feel the need to use certain nauseating terms of endearment though - I really do dislike "princess"

sneezecakesmum · 28/02/2012 17:20

Princess neutropaenia........I take it she has a blood disorder? In which case I sincerely hope she makes a full recovery and is well at the moment x

shockers · 28/02/2012 17:22

I would have loved to have been someone's princess as a child Sad. I must admit though, I think it's a bit overused, and I think most children would appreciate a pet name that's just theirs.

Dalrymps · 28/02/2012 17:27

My ds gets called all sorts.. I think I may have called him my little prince once or twice but he gets 'chief' and 'champ' most oftenGrin

Doesn't really bother me, they get called all sorts of names but as long as they're nice names I don't really think it matters.
