I know this is dull dull dull but hey ho.

My 2 dc have been ill since the week before christmas, tag-teaming with tonsilitis, conjunctivitus, colds etc. I've had a cold for 2 weeks now with a horrible cough that keeps me up most of the night in between seeing to ds who is currently the Ill One. I'm 2 weeks away from an elcs, if I have one with a cough like this, it'll split me open (well, that's how it feels). I've not slept properly for weeks and just want one night. DH is in a right mood but he'd be the one getting up to see to whoever needs it.
I know it says to ask pharmacist's advice if pg but I'm not heading out now to ask them. What do you lot reckon?

Have you got or can you borrow a humidifier?

I do sympathise, I had an awful cough for the last 10 weeks of pregnancy with DS2! Thankfully, the minute I had him, the cough vanished!

Hmmm. You clearly need a good night's sleep; the guidance says to seek advice and that the effects of the antihistamines haven't been established

Maybe play it safe and stick to wine. You mention heartburn; would a glass of red be less likely to aggravate your digestive system than a glass of cheap Chardonnay?

Codeine can help with a cough, and I took it through my pregnancy for pain relief. Might be an option.

Gribble · 24/02/2012 20:17

yes I also took codeine when pg, that might also help with getting you to sleep?

There is a fair amount of alcohol in Night Nurse. I understand though. I take it religiously for every cold. It's amazing! Sleep is so important when you're ill.

I have a sleep app on my phone which measures body movement related to dreaming. It's a bit scary to compare a normal night to a Night Nurse night. Total flatline! My DH doesn't think I'd stir for a fire alarm when I take it.

I wouldnt take it at all it doesn't sound like its safe in pregnancy and if you take it without getting advice first and it did cause a problem with your baby you will never forgive yourself. I know its not nice being ill i came down with a bug twice while pregnant with ds and both times i was so ill i was ordered complete bed rest and waited on looked after by dp Smile hope you feel better soon but i wouldnt take night nurse
