And paying for your coffee etc that people who are just coming in shouldn't hot the only available tables while their DH etc go and collect their order.
FFS they can see it's busy. They can see people at the que making their order AIBU to suggest they maybe have some thought for others?

I do prefer my tables cold.

YANBU.

Tee2072 · 24/02/2012 15:13

They are thinking of others. Their partners are others.

HTH!

ExitPursuedByaBear · 24/02/2012 15:13

How do you know they are married?

warmandwooly · 24/02/2012 15:15

Hog the tables....
The people in quon weren't pregnant etc btw!

Grin Chaos

OP you'll get some agreeing with you, others disagreeing. Me...well, I'll do both. If I'm on my own then I'll agree with you, if I'm with others...then I disagree.

eurochick · 24/02/2012 15:15

It annoys me too. It's queue jumping.

Honeydragon · 24/02/2012 15:17

UABU I hate it when unnecessary extra people are taking up up valuable moving forward to get to the cake space.

Also when it's busy a single person can join others tables, I quite like doing this.

yellowraincoat · 24/02/2012 15:17

This seems to come up on MN a lot and I honestly cannot believe the sheer number of people who think that hogging a table is ok. It just isn't. Basic manners and the laws of physics state it is not. If people didn't do it, there would be greater flow of people. It's like people driving all the way past a queue of traffic and then cutting in.

It is annoying and pathetic and if you do it you are a twat obviously I've done it on occasion but I never said I was perfect

warmandwooly · 24/02/2012 15:19

Exit-I put the etc to cover all bases.

ExitPursuedByaBear · 24/02/2012 15:21

So - let me understand - If 4 people go into a cafe together, they all have to stand in the queue? Not sit down whilst one of them gets the Brews in?

aldiwhore · 24/02/2012 15:22

Meh. My mum often queues to pay whilst I get settled with my children, even when I don't have children.

On the other hand, if I'm alone I don't NEED a whole table do I? If there aren't plenty of seats, I'll go elsewhere.

Frankly I don't care.

I don't care if you're being U or not either, you're allowed to be either. Smile

(long day)

WillowFae · 24/02/2012 15:22

YANBU. Get your food/drink and THEN get a table. It is a form of queue jumping

Tee2072 · 24/02/2012 15:23

'the laws of physics'? Hmm

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

gamerwidow · 24/02/2012 15:23

Sorry OP YABU it's usual practice if you're with a group of people for some to get the food and some to sit down. Bloody annoying though if you're by yourself!

ChishAndFips · 24/02/2012 15:28

Just one person queueing to pay with the rest sitting down is considered quite normal in the town where I live (in southern England) maybe it depends whereabouts in the country you are as to what is socially acceptable?

yellowraincoat · 24/02/2012 15:31

Sorry Tee2072?

It was meant as a joke, to be honest, so why the grumpy face?

catgirl1976 · 24/02/2012 15:32

I always do it. I thought everyone did

But that doesn't stop me chuntering under my breath about other peple being inconsiderate when I am on my own and can't get a table because of the selfish couples and groups.

But then the world does revolve around me so I am always a bit Shock when other people appear to overlook this

ExitPursuedByaBear · 24/02/2012 15:35

Would you do the same in a pub OP? In the distant past when I used to go out, walk in to pub with DH - DH asks me what I want, (pointless as I always have the same) then I would sit down whilst he got the drinks.

Is that impolite?

In the North West?

Tee2072 · 24/02/2012 15:37

It wasn't a grumpy face, it was a "What you talkin' about" face.

Oh, was it suppose to be funny? Guess I missed that.

PinkPepper · 24/02/2012 15:39

I always put my coat down on a table then go up and queue. Would do my head in if there was a big group all waiting stood up. But then again I don't normally go to busy places unless I have to.

yellowraincoat · 24/02/2012 15:40

Gosh Tee2072, what's eating you? Have I said something to offend you?

Tee2072 · 24/02/2012 15:41

Nothing is eating me.

I simply thought what you said wasn't funny and didn't make any sense. So I said that.

Perhaps something is eating you?

warmandwooly · 24/02/2012 15:42

Well I think that it's totally unreasonable for people who are waiting for their food and drink to have nowhere to sit whilst people who havbe just come in sit down where as they could consider going elsewhere. Long q- few tables equals not enough room and it's unreasonable for people who have bought their food or drink dithering over where to sit. Just becuase you are alone doesn't mean you should have to share a table with strangers just so it makes it more convenient for larger parties!

I get livid if someone if I go somewhere where they have newspapers and some fecker takes them so I can't have one. I mean how very dare they.
