YABO - yes, be happy that you can afford to pay

HamblesHandbag · 22/02/2012 14:00
Hmm
mollymole · 22/02/2012 14:00

even YABU sorry typo above

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 22/02/2012 14:01

What mollymole said but I do wish that school meals were free for EVERY child in this country.

ginmakesitallok · 22/02/2012 14:01

YABU. Either you think that everyone should pay (in which case lots more children going hungry) or everyone should get them free (and how do we afford that?) I don't begrudge a child from a less well off background their school dinner.

EauDeLaPoisson · 22/02/2012 14:01

Yabu for using the expression 'answrin'

LilacWaltz · 22/02/2012 14:02

Parents get them for free? Don't you mean their children do? You resent children from low income families getting fed in school? What's the alternative then?

IAmBooyhoo · 22/02/2012 14:02

you understand why other families get free school meals dont you?

IAmBooyhoo · 22/02/2012 14:03

also, you dont have to pay for school dinners. you can send packed lunch which is usually cheaper.

Lulumama · 22/02/2012 14:03

YABU

if you can afford the school meals and your children get fed breakfast and lunch too, why would you begrudge children from v low income households the chance for a hot meal 5 days a week

you have answered yourself

so why bother asking, unless you hope to heap scorn on 'benefit scum'

LilacWaltz · 22/02/2012 14:04

Ah I see, it's a stealth benefit bashing thread is it??

ChickensHaveNoLips · 22/02/2012 14:05

I resent paying for my DC's school dinners because they are often shit. But sometimes I forget to make sandwiches Blush

Mishy1234 · 22/02/2012 14:06

Yabu I'm afraid.

They get free meals at school as it's sometimes the only decent, hot meal they get. There's no way we could afford to do that for all children and nor do I think we should.

faintpinkline · 22/02/2012 14:06

yabvu

My mum had to claim them for us for a while and I still remember how pleased and proud she was when she finally got a job and could pay for them herself. They're a safety net to make sure children eat a few good meals a week and YABU to resent that

yellowraincoat · 22/02/2012 14:07

I totally agree, I wish I was poor.

Them poor people are so much better off than...oh wait.

mrsruffallo · 22/02/2012 14:07

I resent paying for it becuse the portions are too small to keep my children full and they attack me, ravenously searching for snacks, when I pick them up.

I do think that even children on free school meals get a hot dinner in the evenings, we are not living in Victorian times.

Catsdontcare · 22/02/2012 14:08

Yeah I hate knowing children are getting atleast one hot meal a day. They should all suffer the sins of their feckless parents. Also the money saved on school dinners would Probably cover the weekly payment on a plasma telly from bright house

ChickensHaveNoLips · 22/02/2012 14:08

YY mrsruffallo. I'm thinking of padlocking the fridge.

simonscat · 22/02/2012 14:09

Ofcourse YABU and I suspect you at just trying to start a bit of a bunfight.

hiddenhome · 22/02/2012 14:10

YABU a free school meal might be the only proper meal that child has the opportunity to eat all day Sad

(personal experience)

JustOneMoreQuestion · 22/02/2012 14:11

I resent paying when my kids tell me there was little left to choose from by the time they had their sitting.

Yesterdays choices were meatballs (which could be made from ANYTHING, MRM ) and chips or pizza.

They ALWAYS come home starving.

£20 a week for two kids. Dread paying for 3 when ds2 starts in September.
They take a packed lunch through the warmer months, but they like to have hot food in winter.

sississy · 22/02/2012 14:12

I apy for school dinners because my daughter asked for it. She became ery fussy lately so I thought this is a huge step forward for her to try on new foods.
Yes I know I am lucky not be in the situation where I need to get them for free and I do know why some children get them for free. But I can't help that putting the money in the envelope today made me feel ... a bit...

Yes, specially knowing of people getting benefits and working cash in hand at the same time, driving cars around and going abroad on holidays 3 times a year...yet getting free school dinner.

mrsscoob · 22/02/2012 14:12

YANBU let the poor bastards starve.

Actually an even better idea would be to make them work for their free lunch. They could sweep the playground or maybe clean the shoes of the children like yours that can afford their lunch.

ginmakesitallok · 22/02/2012 14:13

mrsruffallo - you are wrong. Lots of children on free school meals DON'T get a meal (hot or otherwise) in the evenings.

complexnumber · 22/02/2012 14:14
