Had enough of their agenda being forced down my throat whether I want it or not. Major recruitment drive going on lately, and serious opression of other posters views. Just gets worse and worse. This was not what I believed MN was supposed to be about.

I'm off.

I think its about how you choose to tackle something and challenge ideas.

Liberal feminists get a hard time for it on MN as they are labelled as sympathisers and traitors.

Unfairly.

There is more than one way to skin a cat.

BasilRathbone · 21/02/2012 20:27

Hmm. I quite like the idea of marauding Rad Fems.

BasilRathbone · 21/02/2012 20:27

Well actually Patti, I am on a recruitment drive.

You can join my horde if you want, and maraud with me.

After we've watched Frasier of course.

I bag Niles.

scottishmummy · 21/02/2012 20:28

we all bring specific ideological and personal pov to mn
the rub is how to maintain that individual vibrancy without cant say that here
an opinion should be robust enough to be poked a bit
and yes all being concordant would be dreadfully dull

TheCrackFox · 21/02/2012 20:28

Mumsnet is one a the few female dominated websites and it is refreshing to see a generally feminist slant.

Oh right. Well OP was AIBU To leave MumsNet because it's becoming RadFeministNet?

YANBU to leave
YABU to think it is any different to how it has always been

In fact now there is a separate topic, people tend to start threads there away from the main boards, if they know they are a feminist type topic. So if anything MN is much less radfem than it used to be.

According to Wikipedia (I know I know)

Radical feminism is a current theoretical perspective within feminism that focuses on the theory of patriarchy as a system of power that organizes society into a complex of relationships based on an assumption that male supremacy[1] oppresses women. Radical feminism aims to challenge and overthrow patriarchy by opposing standard gender roles and oppression of women and calls for a radical reordering of society

It would appear that I am indeed a Radical Feminist Shock Ohhhh I wonder what my husband will say Wink

And no Loveday I don't think that just because an OP doesn't have a popular viewpoint that a thread should be derailed. And I say that as someone who disagrees with the OP.

BasilRathbone · 21/02/2012 20:31

Yes I think SQ is right probably.

Lots of threads now go into FWR, that would once have gone into "other subjects" (is that section ever used anymore?)

scottishmummy · 21/02/2012 20:31

not sure about that
do see a plethora of opinion though which is good
Female or male it doesn't bother me.it's just online chat to me,not a need for female on line opinion

SardineQueen · 21/02/2012 20:32

AIBU to worry that my armpit hair might get caught in a revolving door or something when we go marauding?

coraltoes · 21/02/2012 20:32

What is radfem exactly?!

ledkr · 21/02/2012 20:32

Would you rather it was full of simpering man pleasers who never do as well as men in their careers and accept second rate tretment just because of their gender?
Cos i wouldnt.

SardineQueen · 21/02/2012 20:33

AIBU to wonder whether the pink dungarees or the red ones are the best ones to wear for marauding?

How does one do ones hair?

LovedayPan · 21/02/2012 20:33

I know Billy - it's just too tempting, and I can see why it happens. But yes you are right.

AyeRobot · 21/02/2012 20:33

Feminists who are also MNers posting outwith the Feminism board? I agree, keeping them to a little corner of MN is probably best. Wouldn't want them in the wild being all repressive and shit. Infecting everyone else with women-supporting views should be banned.

AyeRobot · 21/02/2012 20:34

Oh, and Kate and Allie for me. Of course.

Shoopaloop · 21/02/2012 20:35

Grow a fucking backbone, OP.

scottishmummy · 21/02/2012 20:35

simpering men pleasers?precious moments mamas who don't work, stall own career. or the nartyrs who cut own hair, eschew material things to maintain male career.I see plenty of that on mn

LovedayPan · 21/02/2012 20:36

I bet no-one, other than KRITIQUE remembers 'Phyllis' I bet.

SardineQueen · 21/02/2012 20:36

coral in a nutshell

radical feminists believe that the whole system is wrong and that true equality for women (and lots of other groups as well) can only be achieved by root and branch change, a total overhaul, revolution, if you like

Liberal feminists believe that changing a little bit at a time is the way forward, work within the existing structures to improve the position for women.

The good thing about radfem is that it improves things for all oppressed groups eg women, people with disabilities, poor people, gay people, non white people etc etc

The good thing about lib fem is that it feels more achievable.

In practice from what I have seen many people are radfem in their thinking and libfem in their doing IYSWIM. And have different views on different topics.

HTH Smile

LovedayPan · 21/02/2012 20:37

penalised for repetition of 'bet'. Blush

flippinada · 21/02/2012 20:37

Are we talking about American sitcoms now?

coraltoes · 21/02/2012 20:37

I have a "male" career but long hair and fab shoes Scottish mummy...not sure I fit your criteria there.
