Had enough of their agenda being forced down my throat whether I want it or not. Major recruitment drive going on lately, and serious opression of other posters views. Just gets worse and worse. This was not what I believed MN was supposed to be about.

I'm off.

Calming, isn't it, though? I may have misquoted it a bit. Think angry man on a beach.

Indeed.

Which gets me onto the subject of my own liberal feminism. When I was growing up I would never have thought twice about that film. A right old cracking action movie. Then, what with one thing and another, I began to understand the Hollywood motifs, eg Charlton Heston riding around with a mute woman in a furry bikini on the back of the horse. For me, and where I came from, that was a big step. Lots more steps to where I am now. (And I really do value MN.)

Here's another one:

And is that reason wearing striped petticoats?

I was brought up on a diet of Hollywood movies and Blue Peter, with no access to the arts of deconstruction. Freaky stuff. It's great that it is obvious now about those messages.

Yes! Last of the Mohicans.

Oh God, anything with Angelina Jolie in turns my stomach.

That's not a proper clue. What American would say 'It was parked at a funny angle?'

I consider myself one of them Whatmeworry and I don't see an awful lot of the behaviour you're describing.

I should have added "- MN Radfems never see their flocking and howling down behaviour" as another identifying marker.

It's very difficult to argue with someone who's a lot more informed than you are. I suspect that's the problem.

Probably explains the MN Feminista style of Assert,, Hector and Insult then, as they are unable to argue points rationally with better informed people.

Standard extremist/ fundamentalist approach IMO

seeker · 23/02/2012 05:23

There was bullying on my thread qbout thebshop assistant using the word "flattering"? Honestly? I really, really don't get that! Show me someone!!!!!!

runningforthebusinheels · 23/02/2012 07:55

It's because it made reference to feminism Seeker. That's bullying, you know. Wink

i know the whole thing off by heart, as soon as i saw that quote, my heart swooned a little bit.

MrGin · 23/02/2012 08:24

Sorry Seeker, my mistake, shouldn't have mentioned yr Flattery thread.

Stand by the others though.

LineRunner · 23/02/2012 08:26

(I still can't think of it. I need a proper clue.)

Someone at work sent round an email last year making strange allegations about the agenda of the 'pro-feminists' in respect of a current project.

I thought, WTF is a 'pro-feminist'?

seeker · 23/02/2012 08:39

That's OK MrGin- we all make mistakes. I don't think there was on the thread I started about lap dancing clubs either. Could you check that one as well?

MrGin · 23/02/2012 08:54

:)

would love to but I have a small dd to indoctrinate today.

Got to say though have very much enjoyed this thread.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 23/02/2012 08:59

This thread will run out posts soon (thankfully). For the posters who keep on about the 'proof' of bullying; without copying and pasting certain snippets from the feminism board or other places, there isn't proof. That doesn't mean that it didn't happen.

I don't frequent the feminism board or many others and I wouldn't copy posts to store up and regurgitate in an argument several months down the line. It still doesn't mean that peoples' perception that 'bullying' or whatever you want to call it, didn't happen.

I don't like the 'tag team' effect, not at all. It's very obvious and it's like watching an animal being surrounded. Why bother, if you don't agree, why does it take half a dozen posters to bolster someone else's post.

TheBigJessie · 23/02/2012 09:07

The Amsterdam thread was atrocious, from the start. While I agree that you don't have the right to ask colleagues questions about their sexual activities in their own private time (think about the precedent it would set!), some posters didn't stop at explaining that. They took the opportunity to stick the boot into her.

She was treated like a sex-negative bogeyman. She was even accused of being cross over not being invited herself! In my opinion, that insult was close cousin to "you just think [feminist idea] because you need a shag".

Later on, the demon Mis-comprehension ruled the thread. Posters with (presumably) different creeds misunderstood each other, and constructed strawmen, In frustration, people became rather snide.

I have no opinion on whether feminists bully people in AIBU. I haven't seen it. Neither have I seen the Eiger (which I am assured exists), Fairies (which some people assure me exist, and others assure me they don't exist) or Selkies (which I am told don't exist).
