Had enough of their agenda being forced down my throat whether I want it or not. Major recruitment drive going on lately, and serious opression of other posters views. Just gets worse and worse. This was not what I believed MN was supposed to be about.

I'm off.

OP posts:

'No, Sigmund, you attacked the op, when she was feeling vulnerable. You launched into a full sex-industry-apologist mode on someone's personal thread. Not nice. Then you have the audacity to moan on this thread about how people treat you?'

I did not attack her. Feminists were using the thread as a platform to air their own views about strip clubs. It wasn't about supporting the OP. Shit like 'You KNOW he's going to cheat on you when you have kids' I mean WTAF? With what evidence? The thread was derailed and it became a pro/anti strip club thread, and the feminists were as guilty of derailing as I was.

PMSL at poor MrG.

BillyBollyBandy · 21/02/2012 22:09

Are you a feminist MrGin?

TBF, the "you KNOW he's going to cheat on you" was a bit of a loose cannon post and not indicative of the general tone on that thread.

BasilRathbone · 21/02/2012 22:11

Actually, feminists are entitled to air their views about porn, lapdancing etc., on threads which support posters who are actually feeling upset about their DH's going to lapdance clubs/ watching porn etc.

I would STFU on a thread where someone is determined to be in denial about it or is happy with it - none of my business and she doesn't need support. But on a thread where a woman is unhappy with her partner's engagement with the sex industry, giving her political arguments against it, when everyone else is telling her that she's annoyed because she's fat/ jealous/ insecure/ weak etc., is bloody supportive actually.

I've heard that Mr Gin doesn't even like gin.

helpyourself · 21/02/2012 22:13

I definitely consider myself a feminist and would be mortified if my DDs didn't. However I do avoid the Feminist section as it makes me feel ignorant and bullied.

As Eleanour Roosevelt said "no-one can make you feel inferior without your consent", so sadly I do avoid it, which is a shame, because I'd like to learn more.

BasilRathbone · 21/02/2012 22:13

Oh wah!

Boohoo!

Narsty mean old MrGin is bullying me!

Shall I flounce from Mumsnet?

Oh sorry, no, it's the rad fems who are bullies, isn't it, I forgot.

You obviously are deeply affected by my arguments MrG. Funnily enough, I don't remember any of your's. Grin

BupcakesandCunting · 21/02/2012 22:14

Yes. Exactly.

I didn't say it on the actual thread but the more I've thought about it, I think that if you cannot understand, as a woman, why stripclubs are degrading/detrimental to women's equality to your fellow women then you're a bit thick.

helpyourself · 21/02/2012 22:14

As far as Mumsnet as a whole becoming Radfem (whatever that is) I disagree; it definitely has a broadly feminist perspective, which is great.

runningforthebusinheels · 21/02/2012 22:14

MrG admitted he agreed with feminist principles on another thread, then proceeded to say 'feminist' as though it were a dirty word.

LeBOF · 21/02/2012 22:14

I love Hedy Lamarr. Olivia DeHavilland was rather special too. She didn't work much after making her stand though.

SigmundFraude · 21/02/2012 22:15

'Isn't every woman a feminist in some form. If you believe a woman has the right to choose any path she wants in her life you are on some level a feminist, no?'

Feminists do not believe a woman has the right to choose her path. Feminists believe that women have their paths chosen for them by the mystical patriarchy (apart from their own, of course). And that is seriously patronising.

garlicfrother · 21/02/2012 22:17

Top bunfight :)

historyrepeats · 21/02/2012 22:17

Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

LeBOF · 21/02/2012 22:18

How does the saying go?

Have a vagina? Wanna be in charge of it? You're a feminist.

BillyBollyBandy · 21/02/2012 22:18

Feminism is the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of equality of the sexes. A feminist is a supporter of that.

Just to be clear.

BasilRathbone · 21/02/2012 22:18

Oh people who believe that just haven't really understood the arguments SF.

That is a seriously simplistic interpretation of what feminism is, as well as a hostile one.

SardineQueen · 21/02/2012 22:19

I would like to give an example from the feminist section today.

There was a conversation about rape cases and how the police handle them. The case of John Warboys came up (I am sure most people have heard of him, the black cab rapist).

Anyway. In the course of the conversation the case of John Warboys was raised as an example of where things were not good with the police, and in the context of that conversation he was described as a serial rapist.

The reponse came back "John Warboys was allegedly one of the most prolific serial rapists in UK, he was convicted of just one rape."

Now, why would someone come onto MN, and make that comment? Why? It seems, odd, to say the least.

And that sort of backdrop is the sort of thing that goes on all the time in the feminist topic. And when people lose their argument there, they tend to have a big flounce and a rant about how horrible MN feminists are.

Well whatever, really. Women have been stopped from posting on MN by this sort of thing and targetted attacks - like internet stalking I guess - and it is a real shame.

Anyway.

The OP was really horrible on a thread in another topic. So. Bye.

SigmundFraude · 21/02/2012 22:19

Have a vagina? Wanna be in charge of someone elses? You're a feminist.

More like.

MooncupGoddess · 21/02/2012 22:19

Disappointingly, I've never met any members of the mystical patriarchy - do they burn incense and sit round in a circle chanting?

LovedayPan · 21/02/2012 22:20

Gosh. So many personal attacks and no deletions! Are MNHQ asleep at the wheel or just liking the entertainment value?Smile
