AIBU to ask for £2.50 more?

a mum in my childs class asked me today if I would take her child to school in the morn x3 days a week. She will drop dc round at 8.20 and i will take them to school.

I hope I wont have to feed them!

she said she would pay me 7.50 a week to do this and school starts at 8.50
she said her shifts at work have been changed and she cant swap them.
I live opposite my school.

it means the house will have to be tidier, wel all have to be dressed and available to the child. I dont know, in one way i wish she hadnt offered money, but on the other hand i HATE mornings and it will be an inconveience.

the child is not a friend of my childs, they are in yr1. they dont not get on but you know.

AIBU to ask for £10? or am i being a complete bitch who needs to be reminded how hard cc can be (i should bloody know).

Advice? comments?

Gone on, do it. You will be rewarded in heaven Wink, MN will provide Thanks. It's three mornings a week you can be in your pjs for the other two. You will officially be a Good Person and can be Smug all day for each of those three days.

soupdragon Grin glad it's not just us.

being so close tends to send you into another time warp where you imagine you have plenty of time

porcamiseria · 21/02/2012 16:17

i have never ever spoken to her or made eye contact before today.

FOR REAL? then sweet jesus says it's £15 or nothing, she is a BRASS!

brass · 21/02/2012 16:19

moi?

lisad123 · 21/02/2012 16:20

Our breakfast club is £1.50 from 8am

MidnightWorry · 21/02/2012 16:22

thats what i mean it seems so odd. she wants to leave her child with me and she dousnt kmow me at all! and then 7.50?

OP posts:
kaluki · 21/02/2012 16:22

I don't see the problem.
You have to take your own dc to school
You live nearby
So it is literally a child sitting in your house for 20 minutes and another little hand to hold on the way to school.
I would do it for free to help someone out!
Whatever happened to being neighbourly ?

TroublesomeEx · 21/02/2012 16:24

Ok

Number 1) where did she pluck £7.50 from?! Odd amount. I'd say £10/£15 pw.

Number 2) even if you do tell IR, you wouldn't pay any tax/NI on £10 a week anyway.

MidnightWorry · 21/02/2012 16:24

shes not my neighbour or a friend.

and its 3 times a week, every week.

What's a 'brass'? Confused

Silverstar2 · 21/02/2012 16:25

TBH I if were you I'd ask for a round tenner a week, as you seems to want to do it and I really don't see the hassle as you are over the road.

But personally, I wouldn't do it for the following reasons - how long will it be for, what if one of my kids is ill and not going to school, will the money ever increase, etc etc. And you just know that soon it will be 8.15am, 8.10........ or can you have them after school...........

I know you want to help her but honestly don't feel you have to - her child, her childcare problem, we all have them ( I had to leave work early today to get DD from school as she is ill).

But are you REALLY not up dressed and ready by 8.20am?! We have to leave the house by then! But then I love mornings!

Good luck with your decision. I wouldn't worry about the house, the child won't notice I'm sure and the mum will be in a hurry to get to work. Just stick the child in front of the tv/with a book whilst you get ready. And £40 a month would be good I'm sure!

MidnightWorry · 21/02/2012 16:29

i think someone suggested that shes taken it as 5 per hour and so half of 5 is 2.50 (you can tell i was really good at maths at school)
2.50 x3 is 7.50

but if was going to ask someone if offer them a round no

also she dousnt know me, cant get my head round that bit

When I see a post like kaluki's, I wish there was a "like" button.

brass · 21/02/2012 16:31

where are you lisad123 we're in london and I'm Envy at £1.50. that's amazing.

usualsuspect · 21/02/2012 16:31

I'd do it for free for a mate or a neighbour tbh , not so sure I'd do it for free for someone I didn't know ,depends how skint I was

CremeEggThief · 21/02/2012 16:34

Does she know you live just opposite the school? Sounds a bit strange she knows this about you if you have never even made eye contact before, or have I misunderstood?
It sounds as if you have been put on the spot without any time to think about it. Could you offer to do it for free on the proviso it's a stopgap arrangement while she sorts out proper childcare, if you really don't want to do it regularly? I wouldn't feel comfortable taking payment, for this sort of arrangement, but that's probably just me, and she has offered.
And please don't feel you have to keep the house any tidier than you would normally. Your house, your standards apply.

porcamiseria · 21/02/2012 16:40

LOL at brass!!!!!!!

EauDeLaPoisson · 21/02/2012 16:40

What would I do?
It would be highly unlikely anyone would ask me as I work full time- shifts. If I didnt and someone asked me i'd either do it as a favour gratis or not do it at all.

porcamiseria · 21/02/2012 16:41

look, if you want to do it, ask for more money. If you dont, just say NO. she is not even your mate! she must be desperate as she is asking a stranger

stop procrastinating OP!!

CremeEggThief · 21/02/2012 16:42

I don't think we would always be up and dressed by 8.20 if we lived just opposite the school either. Sometimes we get up as late as 8.10 to leave between 8.30 and 8.35!

mopbucket · 21/02/2012 16:42

Our breakfast club at school is £2.50 per week inc cereal, toast and drink 8-9am

50p per day!!!!!!

kaluki · 21/02/2012 16:43

But her dc is in the same class as your dc?
They might become friends - or you and the mum might become friends?
And you live opposite the school!
I bought home my neighbours son today because she had a meeting that ran on. I don't know her that well but I was going there anyway for ds and she would do the same for me.

Or am I just being a 'Pollyanna' as DP calls me when I am too nice?

brass · 21/02/2012 16:49

mopbucket Envy Envy

what the hell am I paying for? caviar on his toast LOL?

you did understand mine was £5 per morning?
