To want to rub dog owners noses in it!

CUKAmbassador · 20/02/2012 22:45

There seems to be a growing trend among dog owners of not removing their dogs shit from places where we take the children for a walk. And for some who do, to tie the resulting bag on a tree.

It's got so bad in a right of way near us at the moment that we have had to stop taking the children. It seems that a growing 'minority' of dog walkers think it's ok to let their dogs shit near or on the path and just leave it especially if it's private / community type land. On a recent walk out with 4 children and three adults, only one adult managed to miss stepping in any.

If you're going to own a dog & want to walk it carry a bag and clean up after it or before long somebody is going to rub your nose in it. :-(

All these threads moaning about dog poo are wierd to me. We go out walking a lot (because we have a dog) and none of my family has ever trod in dog poo. Before we had a dog and I had babies in prams, I never, not once, ended up with dog poo on the wheels. I rarely even see dog poo.

There are loads of dogs in this area, I just don't see all this poo everywhere that seems to warrant a dog poo complaints thread every other week.

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 20/02/2012 23:02

Lucky you then

lazylula · 20/02/2012 23:07

IUTMKR you are very lucky then! Around this area it is common practice to allow your dog to poo on the pavement and just leave it. My parents road and the one leading off of it are the worst as there are to particular dog owners who allow there dogs to poo and not clean it up (they have been seen many times). I have had to clean the pram up many times and the children's shoes, scooter and bike wheels, even though we seem to spend the whole time looking down at the pavement. Yanbu op, but I will say Ithink it is the minurity that give the majority a bad name.

Forrestgump · 20/02/2012 23:09

I feel the same about cat owners and those on horse back who ride on the pavement and don't come back with a poop scoop!!

D0oinMeCleanin · 20/02/2012 23:10

Oh something we agree on Kitchenroll Shock

FWIW I don't notice shite all over any of our local parks or woodland either, the occassional bag in a tree, but not many.

CervixWithASmile · 20/02/2012 23:10

There are a lot of responsible dog owners out there who would not dream of not clearing up after their dogs. On the plus side what you can say about dog shit is that it eventually biodegrades, unlike the plastic and litter pollution left around by many humans.

Having said all of that I find the plastic bag leaving / tying totally bizarre. I dispose of our bags in the nearest bin (carrying it until I get there) but have no idea of the thought process that goes behind hanging it on a tree.

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll · 20/02/2012 23:11

I must be lucky! I agree that is probably a minority, and those people that have cause to complain about it are probably suffering because of a selfish two or three owners, if that.

workshy · 20/02/2012 23:11

the amount of times I have walked out of my front gate and only just missed a steaming great pile of dog poo!

school is about half a mile away and there were 8 piles of poo on the way this morning -it's disgusting!

D0oinMeCleanin · 20/02/2012 23:13

I find it odd that people actually count piles of shit. If you're really that bored I have a man sized pile of washing that needs folding and putting away. That should keep you occupied for a week at least Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/02/2012 23:13

YABU CUK
I'd make the feckers lick it up.

Then come round my house and clean the shit off my DCs shoes with their toothbrushes -just to make an example of them.

And compulsary bottom corks for dogs.
Hmmm, could be a new money making venture.
(I'm not a dog owner in case you were wondering) Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/02/2012 23:15

Well Dooin I have to count the piles so that I know how many Turd Flags I need to take out with me.....

BloodyDogEscapedAgain · 20/02/2012 23:16

Oh Forrest You've confirmed that I'm not insane.

Ok horse poo isn't as toxic as dog poo but still its much bloody bigger, it still stinks and its still unsightly and why the hell are you riding on the bloody pavement???

I'm sick of playing horse poo hopscotch when I walk my 3 dogs.

I do pick up the poo and dispose of it correctly btw

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/02/2012 23:18

And Cervix some B'Stard put a dog bag in my bin. The cheek.
I mean, I know it's a bin FGS but lots of my neighbours have dogs, they could've picked any number of bins.

I most certainly did not expect that when I lifted the lid Envy -not jealous, that was my face

workshy · 20/02/2012 23:18

D0oinMeCleanin

if you had to shepherd 4 children including 1 toddler around them it's kind of noticeable!

D0oinMeCleanin · 20/02/2012 23:22

I shepard around three dogs, two children and a cat. I still don't notice steaming piles of dog shit everywhere, unless the Grey sees grass. Some eejit taught her to shit the minute her paws touch grass. took me bloody days to convince her it was okay to go in the yard before she went for her walk so I could just shovel and bin it.

ballroomblitz · 20/02/2012 23:24

The streets in our town has loads of dog poo. It is vile. I have a dog and would never dream of not picking it up. The neighbours kids saw me doing it one day and asked why I was picking it up because 'no-one else ever does'. I don't know how many times ds has stood in some or the wheels of the buggy has got covered. Boak.

The councils need to up their game too. Beside the two major parks (where most people walk their dogs, the kids play) there isn't a dog waste bin to be seen.

lazylula · 20/02/2012 23:24

Cervix, people who throw there rubbish on the floor annoy me too. We have a Tescos at the top of our road and it must be just the right distance away for people who buy the sandwiches to finish eating them and discard of the empty containers outside my house as there seems to be no end of them daily.

BloodyDogEscapedAgain · 20/02/2012 23:27

You all need to take photos of offending owners.
Get them sent to the local council and get them fined!!

Not easy I know. I once caught a guy walking his dog down my road (not his road) Lots of really tall conifers along the side. Dog did a poo guy kept walking.

I pulled a doggy bag out of my pocket (guaranteed everyone of my coats has at least one in it) and said "would you like a bag or do you want me to send a photo to the local council" Grin He called me a stupid bitch but he picked it up Smile

BloodyDogEscapedAgain · 20/02/2012 23:30

ballroom Lots of councils cut dogpoobins in the budget cuts.

Its a whole seperate department that empty those apparently, which confuses me because they only end up emptying them out of the regular bins anyway Confused

blackeyedsusan · 20/02/2012 23:32

there is a great heap of trodden in poo outsside the school gates. wonder where that has ended up?

ripsishere · 21/02/2012 07:56

You need to be like the man (can't find the clip) who collected a steaming pile and chased the owner with it - he may have thrown it, I can't remember.
OP, YANBU and I say that as a cat owner who, on four occasions has gone to her neighbours garden to collect the leavings of her furry boys.

takingiteasy · 21/02/2012 08:03

YADNBU!

I am a dog owner and pick up his shit when needed. We live opposite a field many dog walkers use, it's a farmers field with a path through it and it's very popular.

Now some fuckwit has taken to letting thier dog shit on the path outside my house. There was even one in the middle of the fucking road the other day.

I've reported it but not caught them in the act. I have put a sign up saying 'away and shite on your own doorstep' and I start maternity leave next week, I will catch them and follow them up the road taking pictures and report them. It annoys me that much! It's my families shoes and floors that suffer. It enrages me dealing with other people's dog's shites. I deal with my own.

arghmyear · 21/02/2012 08:14

YANBU. There is dog shit everywhere here. I have stopped taking my kids to the park because every time we went, we would have to dodge shit. I went to MIL's and we went to her park (100 miles away). There was shit there too. I can't understand why we as a society accept this without serious consequences. There is shit outside my DC primary school.

Mishy1234 · 21/02/2012 08:30

YANBU. It's vile.

I've noticed there's a lot more than there used to be. We live near the beach and there's a lovely promenade which is perfect for the kids (and people walking their dogs too). We were there on sat and it was literally caked in dog shit. I've never seen it that bad before.

I don't know if it's an increase in people leaving it or maybe a decrease in the council cleaning it up due to budget constraints. Either way, it's thoughtless and horrible for everyone, including other dog owners.

lashingsofbingeinghere · 21/02/2012 09:25

I think the only answer is a compulsory dog licence. £50 a year or so - chip and pin the dog and get its DNA on a data bank. Then there's no dispute about whose dog dunnit.
I think 5m homes own a dog, at £50 per dog that's £250m a year - surely enough to run a dog poo patrol and dog DNA databank? Also, job creation, cleaner streets - win win! (Am genius).
