I had no idea.

I've been away from the UK, and just saw the actual proposals/rules on another thread.

Its bad right?

I imagine there is another thread on this so if there is, sorry ...I can't find it! :)

I just pray we get independence in Scotland...

Dillydaydreaming · 18/02/2012 16:55

...and as a single parent I will choose to be at home for my son if need be. At the moment when he is at school I sleep - hope that's okay with all the taxpayers shrieking about tax credits etc. I will NOT be going to work while my son needs me and while I need sleep - I left my last job because I was exhausted and making mistakes - in short they were carrying me - I left before I was pushed. During the time everything went to pot - the house was always chaotic, i was always tired and I found DS much harder to cope with. I am not going back to that situation no matter what bloody rules they make. I will write a personal letter to DC and IDS telling them they are a pair of fecking scumbags and enclose a tube of KY jelly so they can shove it up their arses.

What really gets to me is there are loads of women on here who say stupid things like "UC doesn't seem that bad". Well you (your rich husband) are just one accident away from being there yourselves - remember that. Life is shit sometimes and there are not as many "scroungers" as you have been fed by the Tory press.

manticlimactic · 18/02/2012 16:55

happyinherts Thanks for explaining. Smile Will look up this Universal doo-dah. Is there a idiot proof link in plain English anywhere?

trustissues75 · 18/02/2012 16:55

Of course, we could just bring back the work houses and psychiatric hospitals of 100 years ago...then us "undersirables" wouldno longer be a blot on the government's landscape....

ClothesOfSand · 18/02/2012 16:55

Even if they don't get in at the next election, the next government will take some time to change the benefits system. That would still mean a few years of families who can't afford enough food or heating. It is very worrying.

Feminine · 18/02/2012 16:57

2015?

goodness, that seems a long way off Angry

Still so much time, to cause so much grief.

This Govt are not taking into account anything except themselves and their business dealings - the rest of us can go and do one as far as they are concerned and I hate them all with a passion.

elliejjtiny · 18/02/2012 17:00

I think a lot of people who think it's not going to be that bad don't really understand UC.

All those severely disabled children getting MRC, who is going to look after them while their parents are working/on workfare?

hookaduck · 18/02/2012 17:01

Can anyone do a link so we can work out what we will all get?

trustissues75 · 18/02/2012 17:01

Unlikelyamazonian - exactly how I fell. My ex has a half million dollarhouse, a hot tub, a pool and a half acre of land in sunny florida...oh, and doesn't pay child support...I clean peoples shit, get injured doing it, watch my son go without...I'm not sure I could take more money gone, more hours worked, more watching my little guy be palmed off to others and wondering why his life is so different to how it was and why he doesn't get to see mummy much and when he does she's exhausted because she has insomnia, and depression, and worry, and anxiety....

Why, oh, WHY doesn't the government sue the fat cat bankers who got themselves bailed out of a crisis, kept their jobes even though the overwhelming evedince is that they acted with gross misconduct, and take their bloody huge bonuses off them that they got despite their bloody piss poor work performance?!!!!

notveryinventive · 18/02/2012 17:02

you're right dilly they both should get higher care. My DS is autistic too, but is completely ok on a night so we get middle rate. So therefore he will get lower rate, then DH will lose his carers allowance, then we will lose IS (I will have to sign on instead which doesnt bother me as I am going to be looking for a job as soon as I move) then will lose HB and council tax benefits (which we may keep while I am job seeking).

Before anyone flames me for not working ATM. I was working till I got made redundant then had a couple of temp jobs and stupidly had a happy accident after I left my last temp job. We are moving ASAP (have been planning it since November and just waiting right now for the house to be ready) and once we do a job hunting I will go.

Didn't know they were getting rid of middle care componant. Have you got a link dilly?

ImperialBlether · 18/02/2012 17:03

Trustissues, isn't there an agreement between American and British authorities regarding child support?

Meglet · 18/02/2012 17:05

dilly I'll co sign your letter and get a bow for the KY jelly.

UA CSA maintenance is effectively taxed from next year. XP will have to pay more, the CSA will take a cut, and we will end up with less than now. He will quite possibly hit the roof at paying more so the police, WA cycle will begin again Sad. Great cost saving there from the condems.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/02/2012 17:07

Link to pdf detailing changes here:

www.nawra.org.uk/

It's linked to under 'latest'

DillyTheDinosaur · 18/02/2012 17:08

I didn't think the changes to the CSA made it through the house of lords Meglet?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/02/2012 17:08

www.nawra.org.uk/

notveryinventive · 18/02/2012 17:09

I must admit Ive not been that scared because Ive not been taking too much notice. Ive been sticking my head in the sand thinking it will be fine.

ZeldaUpNorth · 18/02/2012 17:09

I believe the Queen has the power to overthrow the government?(i may have made that up?) Maybe we should all start appealing to her? lol

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/02/2012 17:10

Zelda, their is a petition to the queen at the moment, it is linked to from the Frothers thread.

DillyTheDinosaur · 18/02/2012 17:11

What does this mean in layman terms:

Both tax credits: Fall from £25,000 to £10,000 in ?disregarded increases in income during the current tax year?

I never know what 'disregarded' means in this context.

ZeldaUpNorth · 18/02/2012 17:12

Really? Will have to have a look :)

HappyMummyOfOne · 18/02/2012 17:13

Carers/DLA issues aside, i dont see whats wrong with having to work and not being paid top up benefits to be a student or SAHM. They are lifestyle choices that should be funded by the individual not the state.

Even at 35 hours, its not unreasonable Secondary children should be able to be left for a couple of hours at night, if not then its not benefit system that is to blame.

Most people would love to work less or not at all but it cant be at the cost of others working. I suspect UC will get a lot of support, it will only be opposed by those who have been working the bare minimum they can get away with or staying home whilst the state tops up their income. Not just be "rich mums" but by couples who both work yet can have a lower household income than those on benefits/top up benefits.

Nobody has to claim it, its not compulsory but if you do then the rules need to be met but current benefits come with rules attached so its not that different.

Meglet · 18/02/2012 17:13

dilly the government over-turned the Lords objections so it's almost certainly going through unless something happens at Royal Assent stage.

As an aside, our local police force have a #doyounkowwhereyourteenagersare hashtag. Well, if I'm a LP working full time and expected to take a job within 90 mins of the home, then no. As well as I can bring them up I won't be able to remote parent when hormones kick in. .

DillyTheDinosaur · 18/02/2012 17:13

And what does this mean

Both Tax credits: Taper on income for tax credits moves from 39% to 41%

Feminine · 18/02/2012 17:17

happy but many folk have no choice...they have to claim and yet can't find work?

They need the money...
