I had no idea.

I've been away from the UK, and just saw the actual proposals/rules on another thread.

Its bad right?

I imagine there is another thread on this so if there is, sorry ...I can't find it! :)

rather like the expensive...

sorry, I have tiny hands with fingers like pringles today

UnlikelyAmazonian · 19/02/2012 20:03

I am going to open a Children's Home. There is about to be a great demand for one I think.

OpinionatedMum · 19/02/2012 20:07

Ok, have started following the Fawcett society on twitter

Solidarity!

LadySybilDeChocolate · 19/02/2012 20:09

Splendid! Grin

UnlikelyAmazonian · 19/02/2012 20:11

I wonder if I am in a position to make some sort of stand.

I could make a god almighty stink and demand that the powers that be go to Thailand and force my son's father, my ex-husband, on pain of imprisonment for neglect, to pay to support his three children.

Until this happens, I could chain myself to the bars of no. ten.

See what happens.

Fuck all probably. My media mates are all very middle class and obedient now on their big salaries.

UnlikelyAmazonian · 19/02/2012 20:15

I mean as a way of showing that for many lone parents who get naff all from their dcs' 'fathers' that its very unfair that we shouold be made to pay. Again.
And again
And again
And again
Especially in the context of cameron's grand 'feckless fathers' speech. twunt

thefroggy · 19/02/2012 20:28

Dont be daft, feckless fathers can choose not to work and they wont be penalised. I thought everyone knew that?

LadySybilDeChocolate · 19/02/2012 20:32

Feckless fathers will be penalised though, they will be the ones shelf stacking in Twatsco.

thefroggy · 19/02/2012 20:44

But they wont, because a lot of them already work and wont pay maintenance.

They dont claim jsa so are not subject to routine humiliation.

LadySybilDeChocolate · 19/02/2012 20:47

There are a fair few who purposely don't work so they don't have to pay maintenance. There's a lot of problems with this bill, and this is only one of them. It really hasn't been thought through.

molepom · 19/02/2012 20:48

Ahem

cough

I really must sort this cold out.

molepom · 19/02/2012 20:49

atishyoo

thefroggy · 19/02/2012 20:51

My friend's ex husband owns more than one business. He pays 26 pounds a month maintenance. I rest my case.

It's wondrous how the BBC knew there was going to be a major recession way, WAY before we, the great unwashed did: hence all these programmes now like upstairs downstairs and call the midwife, with lots of POOR people in them - a woman giving birth to triplets in a room with no leccy and only candles and hey - look - we are LUCKY today seems to be the message, with our fat-cat tax credits.

Shame the girl in the shitty flat having triplets didn't die (fictiionally I mean!) as now we all sit here thinking 'fuck, i could be so much worse off than having to just work a few extra hours. i could be having Triplets in a stinky freezing garret flat with no hope of getting child support from the father as it doesn't exist'...

Shame too that at the end of the episode there she was, pushing a whopping great silver cross perambulator, with daddy trailing behind all loved-up holding one of the babies.

The bbc is so - there doncha know.

Still like to know who told the producers three years ago to get cracking on some war dramas as the economy is going to collapse and Dallas or Dynasty re-hashes simply aren't going to cut it.

The message all round at the moment - from government to media - seems to be 'you have never had it so good. Look. You could be REALLY poor like in the olden days, or DEAD from fatigue and childbirth and smallpox. Get On with it'

carernotasaint · 19/02/2012 22:30

Baypolar i just got some bad news on facebook then afterwards i started to read this thread.
I soon realised that reading this thread at this time was a mistake.
An old schoolfriend of mine has been knocked down and killed by a car.
I was at school with both her and her sister. They were identical twins by the way. The family want to be left to grieve in peace.
With idiots like you about Baypolar its not hard to see why.

Punchthosecalories · 19/02/2012 22:56

I'm sorry to hear your news carernotasaint

UnlikelyAmazonian · 19/02/2012 22:56

So very sorry to hear this carer. Sad

gettingagrip · 19/02/2012 23:00

Sad Sad

dottyspotty2 · 19/02/2012 23:21

So sorry carer but just ignore Baypolar I rose to her bait. And got upset and angry, she's got her head up her arse so far she can't see the real world. People like that aren't worth it

carernotasaint · 19/02/2012 23:27

Thanks ladies. Sorry to take it off topic but i just couldnt believe her stupidity.
Some very interesting points on this thread about the UC though.

KalSkirata · 20/02/2012 10:29

sorry to hear your news Carer.

caramelwaffle · 20/02/2012 11:37

Sorry to hear that carer.

Excellent point needs re-posting

The contradictions are what gets me.

Nearly 3 million unemployed (and rising)=
Feckless families living the high life on benefits.

Get your five fruit and veg a day=
Benefits cut and wages frozen.

Get Lone parents back to work=
Make childcare more expensive for them.

People on benefits shouldnt be allowed to live in "naice" areas=
Increase train fares by 12 % so that when they move they have to pay more to get to work.

Broken Britain. Feral children caused by broken families=
Get LP's to pay for CSA. Force them into full time jobs so their kids can have more time alone.

There is no logic"

golemmings · 21/02/2012 20:40

On a related note I learned something new today. Mate of mine used to work, she's currently on extended mat leave and intends to return to work. Not sure how many hours she did, possibly full time. Her DH works 20 hours per week.

Because she's on extended mat leave she doesn't get smp. Apparently for tax credit purposes she is not counted as doing any hours. Because her husband only works 20hours they're about to lose their tax credits which they will get back just as soon as she returns to work.

I can't believe its reasonable that when your smp runs out the government then hammers your tax credits as well... I always thought that your hours counted when on mat leave.

LineRunner · 21/02/2012 20:43

That's crazy, golemmings. Just crazy.

HappyMummyOfOne · 21/02/2012 20:47

Its always been the case on tax credits that WTC is only applied on the first 39 weeks of maternity not the additional 13 weeks after.
