to think that most on here have tried class B or A drugs at some point in their lives?

I'm increasingly struggling with the wisdom of prohibiting drugs and this is increased by a suspicion that far more people have taken or take drugs than are ever willing to admit it. I am thus curious as to MNetters experiences.

I havnt used drugs except legal ones , I have had some humdinger of painkillers in my time blew my head off dont think i would willingly want to feel like that

Kayano · 11/02/2012 10:53

Never Grin

LaFilleSurLePont · 11/02/2012 10:56

Never have.Never will. I'm very anti drugs.

BalloonTwister · 11/02/2012 11:02

A long time ago in my now distant yoof I experimented with most of 'em. I'm now very anti, for reasons I have no wish to go into, but agree with other posters, most definitely a mugs game.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 11/02/2012 11:18

Dope in the 6th form and at university in the early 80s. But as I hated cigarettes I couldn't really get on with it. Fantastic, one off magic mushroom experience. Too square, really and terrified of anything in pill form.

I wouldn't want it legalised, though, except maybe for medicinal purposes such as MS.

SarahLundsredJumper · 11/02/2012 11:33

No and have never smoked .

Gribble · 11/02/2012 11:55

Ive done weed, trips, e's, coke, smoked crack (by accident, thought it was a joint) and shrooms. Best night was at a Prodigy gig on a various mix of stuff. Couldnt do drugs now though, much prefer a brew and nice biscuit.

Gribble · 11/02/2012 11:57

oh yea, and billy, only the once, comedown lasted 4 days!!!

redpanda13 · 11/02/2012 13:06

In the late 80's and early 90's I regularly took ecstasy, LSD, speed and cocaine. I rarely smoked hash. Up until about 10 years ago I still sometimes used cocaine and speed. I had also started binge drinking by then. I had many, many good times and some horrendous comedowns.
I stopped around the same time as I recovered from anorexia/bulimia. I also reduced my alcohol intake.
I now feel so out of touch with drug culture today it would be very hard for me to comment on it. I am a hypocrite I guess because it would break my heart if my DD felt the need to take drugs or drink to excess when she is older. Maybe because I associate my drug taking with a time when I was an absolute fuck up?

TwllBach · 11/02/2012 13:40

I once had a drag on a spliff
I only ever took a couple of drags on actual cigarettes though, and, although I drank a lot in my teens, at the grand old age of 24 I have become pretty much teetotal. I'm not sure I can explain why and therefore I shouldn't really have a valid opinion, but drugs and alcohol and even smokin to a certain extent make me very uncomfortable. Ironic really as DP is a heavy drinker and experimented a lot before we met. I have even in the past turned down a potential relationship with a boy I really liked because I knew he smoked dope a lot. I don't know what it is that makes me uncomfortable, and actually when I think about it I am violently opposed to both drugs and alcohol, but I can't explain why.

DP says it is silly because things like caffeine etc are drugs too... But then I don't drink tea, coffee or energy drinks Grin

SinbadtheSailor · 11/02/2012 14:00

Yes, lots of different stuff a,b and c class over a number of years. Certainly stopped doing the heavier stuff before dc but took me a lot longer to stop smoking weed.
I have'nt smoked cannabis for over four years now following a mental breakdown and do believe that my mental health would be have much better had I never took any illegal drugs.
Still struggling with the effects of so much abuse years later but I believe the damage was done along time ago and I will never be able to get back to my 'normal' self.

Boomerwang · 11/02/2012 14:10

Couple of spliffs in Amsterdam :D I was knocked out, puked my guts up, told everybody I loved them, couldn't even raise my head up off the bed.

Woke up at 6am feeling absolutely fantastic.

Not tried anything else and I wouldn't. I would, however, have weed again and even though it's been more than 15 years since that holiday in Amsterdam, I found myself recently wishing I could have SOMETHING to make me less bored at home. Preggers, y'see?

I have dabbled. Class A, B & C. During a short and difficult period of my teens. It is indeed a mug's game. I had some great nights but my god, the comedowns.

Many people in the circle I know went on to live successful, productive happy lives. However the odd few have had their lives destroyed. Suicide, addiction, schizophrenia, being sectioned etc. All these happening to people in their twenties. The person with an undiagnosed heart problem who died on the floor of a nightclub at 21. It's not worth the risk and it's very difficult to predict who will come out of it ok, and who won't. It's Russian roulette.

I would hate drugs to be legalised. I know that there are no easy answers though Sad.

protecttheinnocent · 11/02/2012 14:38

Have had a lot of different things over the years but never heroin or crack. For a time I had a lot of ecstasy and hash/weed but I've also tried mushrooms, acid, speed, cocaine and some specialist psychedelics like salvia and dmt.

I have different opinions about all of them, they're all different. Of them all I think cocaine is the worst - it brings out the worst in people and is expensive and addictive.

At the right time and place, psychedelics are my favourite.

Ecstasy is a great party drug but I don't think it's good for a person's emotional wellbeing to take it too often.

Alcohol is the drug that causes the most damage in society imho. Things like ecstasy or acid would never cause the level of problems that alcohol causes.

Now I have the odd spliff of high quality charas and glass of red wine. Very, very rarely anything else.

I believe in discussing legalisation because the current laws do not work. I think legalisation may pave the way for better standards of education about drugs. www.tdpf.org.uk/

GwendolineMaryLacey · 11/02/2012 14:59

Not me. Never taken drugs, never smoked and I don't drink. I do love my anti depressants though. Does that count?

accidentprawn · 11/02/2012 15:01

have never tried them and never will.

iseenodust · 11/02/2012 15:03

Another never had and never will.

CupOfBrownJoy · 11/02/2012 15:08

I have, but I am fundamentally uninterested in whether most people have or haven't, and am not interested at all in their life choices.

And drugs will never be legalised, so I can't see too much point worrying about it.

The pre War on Terror War on Drugs always seemed ridiculously, comprehensively lost whenever I looked around one of the so called "superclubs" I used to frequent as a teenager. Lots of old men in the House of Commons kidding themselves.

noddyholder · 11/02/2012 15:09

Have tried them all but have never smoked tobacco! Now the raciest thing I do is the odd bottle of malbec. It was a time and a place thing for me which would never work now that I am a mum and frankly past it!

NoillyPrat · 11/02/2012 15:10

And another never have, never will.

GnomeDePlume · 11/02/2012 16:43

No and DH hasnt either. Now that DCs are teenage it is much easier to have an anti drug stance if you arent having to say 'dont do as I did, do as I say'.

I am not in favour of legalisation.

Legalise and global drug companies will put ever more effort into increasing the high. Other companies will then start to introduce more drugs to manage the lows. Our DCs will take these and then have to suffer the long term consequences as these come to light further down the line - rotten bladder is only the start of it.

Legalised drugs will not be a cottage industry. This isnt like relaxing the rules on making beer, wine or cider for sale.

landrover · 11/02/2012 18:06

Nope never tried anything, never felt the need! never smoked, would rather eat chocolate. Dont know how people can afford to take drugs or smoke?

mathanxiety · 11/02/2012 18:11

Gnomes, that is how it works now with drugs illegal. Punters will always look for that elusive 'best', 'biggest', etc. The illegal drug market is capitalism in its purest form. What drives the trade is the astronomical profit margin, guaranteed by the addictive nature of the product. Ideally, what legalisation would do is partly eliminate the associated misery, the crime, the vice, the funding of terrorists and corruption of governments and police (which leads to misery on a grand scale in places like Mexico, Colombia, Afghanistan for the little people just trying to get on with their lives).

oiwheresthecoffee · 11/02/2012 18:15

Id have thought yes. I know i have. And so have 90 percent of the people i know. In my circle its normal/expected that you do. Everyone does. I dont even think about it to be honest. Just part of a night out.
Im 24 just out f uni btw if that helps any ?!
