to think that most on here have tried class B or A drugs at some point in their lives?

I'm increasingly struggling with the wisdom of prohibiting drugs and this is increased by a suspicion that far more people have taken or take drugs than are ever willing to admit it. I am thus curious as to MNetters experiences.

Don't smoke tramadol! You can just smoke powder by putting it in a rolled cigarette but it's not good for your lungs. Plus, it will taste like shit.

Whatmeworry · 11/02/2012 09:47

The biggest danger is lack of purity. Legalize, enforce purity, and tax it - could probably sort out the deficit that way if some estimates of drug spend are true!

NorthernWreck · 11/02/2012 09:47

I would still smoke weed now if you could get normal weed, but it all seems to be skunky stuff and I can't bear that. I do think skunk has got a lot to answer for when it comes to the mental well being of young men.

Cocaine and heroin are responsible for some of the worst human rights abuses in the countries where they are produced, which is a damn good reason to not go near them.

I have also had some amazing acid trips Shagmund. I can tell when I meet someone if they have used to do acid in their youth-it does change you. It sort of opens up a door in your mind.
It is to be used as a mind expanding tool imo, not an every weekend recreational drug. Man.

Catstwattypoosituation · 11/02/2012 09:49

I could cry out all the water in my body, secondcoming.

apologies · 11/02/2012 09:49

The Second Coming - yes I thought that one was a little weird myself. Perhaps meant as a metaphor for something?

Haven't tried anything, and wasn't really offered as long as I was at uni in Sweden- seemed to be more of a red wine culture among my friends, and generally speaking more alcohol than anything else there. It was the kind of culture where (some) people would down a bottle of aquavit before they set out to a party.

Dh and his friends in the UK seemed to be more familiar with weed.

pictish · 11/02/2012 10:00

Coke - tried it a handful of times and can't see what all the fuss is about. It must have been crap coke.
Speed - in my teens. Enjoyed the buzz, but kept me awake for ages. Never took to it, with any conviction. Have taken it maybe five times in all.
Acid - yeah, I quite liked acid for a while.

Mushrooms - went picking and tripping every year as a youngster. Took too many one time, had a horrible time, and never did them again.
Ecstacy - a good E is a wonderful thing.
Cannabis - yes please. I like a smoke now and then.
Alcohol - never got bitten by the bug. Don't drink often at all.

I do find my eyes rolling out of my head and along the floor at these threads. Someone always knows someone who died after a puff on a joint.

SoupDragon · 11/02/2012 10:00

no I never have.

HillyWallaby · 11/02/2012 10:05

Nope. Never. And I have never been a smoker. (although I have tried smoking once or twice when I was about 13.)

Fleurdebleurgh · 11/02/2012 10:09

Took anything and everything in my teens.
Speed, Crack, Heroin (once) , Crystal Meth, Weed, Skunk, Prescription highs, E's, Coke, Acid GHB,/GBL and Ketamine.

With Ketamine (horse tranquliser) being my absolute drug of choice.

I did recreational drugs throughout the day, every day for about 2 years. From when i woke to when i went to bed (or passed out)

I am relativley normal now. No long term health effects. The only trouble is i have little memory my life pre the drugs stage.

exaspomum · 11/02/2012 10:12

No. I haven't and don't feel I've missed out. Are you trolling?

Destrier · 11/02/2012 10:13

No never. No cigarettes either. Neither has dh.

The sense of pride coming from those who have always surprises me.

HillyWallaby · 11/02/2012 10:14

How on earth did you find that Fleur? And WTF does 'relatively normal' mean?

HillyWallaby · 11/02/2012 10:16

'I do find my eyes rolling out of my head and along the floor at these threads. Someone always knows someone who died after a puff on a joint.'

Well yes - but then someone always knows someone who died after walking past a person eating a peanut!

jaggythistle · 11/02/2012 10:17

another no here.

plenty of alcohol, especially when i first went away to university. i don't really like getting out of control drunk these days and haven't for years.

love my wine though.

did try smoking cigarettes a couple of times to see what the attraction was. there wasn't one for me.

drugs just never interested me.

Fleurdebleurgh · 11/02/2012 10:19

How did i find what?

I said relativley normal as im not really sure what normal is! You certainly wouldnt be able to pick me out of a line up as an ex drug user. I dont have minging teeth or scars from falling on my bonce! Grin

HillyWallaby · 11/02/2012 10:22

Whoever said Ritalin - why on earth would you take that? I understand what is can do for people who are prescribed it need it, but it's going to give you the buzz of the century, is it? Why bother? Are there people who go out with the intention of scoring Ritalin, or do they just take their children's now and again like Lynett Scavo? Grin

HillyWallaby · 11/02/2012 10:23

sorry that was such a shit sentence. Hmm Hope you can decifer it. Confused

blameitonthecaffeine · 11/02/2012 10:23

I used to take a LOT of cocaine as a teenager/student. I thought I needed it to be an interesting person. I was a dancer/actress/singer with anorexia/bulimia and no idea of who I was. I went to a private girls' school. I was basically a fucked up cliche!

I also thought it was clever.

I definitely don't think it should be legalised. Although on second thoughts maybe it would take the drama out of it!!

HillyWallaby · 11/02/2012 10:23

And I meant it's NOT going to give you the buzz of the century.

ByTheSea · 11/02/2012 10:24

I've always had a curious and adventurous personality and did a lot of experimentation and 'partying' in teens and twenties and quite honestly, don't regret a minute of it. I expect my DC probably will as well -- I just hope they can hold out til they are a bit older and their brains are more fully developed than mine was when I started. I don't see a big problem with their experimentation with cannabis, ecstasy, mushrooms, etc and think these things will actually be safer for them than alchohol. I still enjoy an occasional joint when the DC are sleeping.

FWIW, through all my experimentation, I managed to get an honours degree and start and continue a quite successful career.

catgirl1976 · 11/02/2012 10:26

Pot, speed, LSD, MDMA, Cocaine, Ketamine (once by accident)

Not any more though - mainly through uni and a few years afterwards although I knocked the speed on the head early on in uni as it is filthy and knocked the pot on the head straight after uni as it didn't do much for my ambition.

LSD I really don't think you can take after the age of about 21 without having too much going on in your head to cope IYSWIM.

Carried on with the Ecstacy for several years after uni and stil did coke very occasionally up until recently but since becoming pg and having DS have obvioulsly been a paragon of virute with only the occasional white wine passing my lips

ByTheSea · 11/02/2012 10:27

Meant to add that I have seen big problems with drugs such as cocaine, meth, heroin and alcohol and hope my DC won't get into these.

ShellyBoobs · 11/02/2012 10:34

I was out clubbing (or in a warehouse/field/whatever) most weekends from '88 to '95.

In that period I used (in order of volume): speed, E, cocaine, weed. It was mostly speed and E with very, very few dabbles with coke and even fewer with weed.

A good friend of mine was a club promoter and another good friend was/is a well known house DJ so it was pretty much mine and my friends' entire social life at the time. We were all working and/or studying and have done ok for ourselves, I think.

I have to say I don't ever recall seeing any dead bodies littering the dance floors if I'm honest and very, very few incidences of violence. spring to mind.

These days, I drink the odd glass of red or maybe a beer or a cocktail. I've no interest at all in smoking or taking anything illegal.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 11/02/2012 10:50

Arf @ Hilly. Are you on drugs or what? [ironic]
