for asking my chap to marry me on 29th- do I get him a ring? But chaps don't generally have engagement rings? Do I get my own ring ( will only be a cheapy thing either way but more of a token I guess )

he better bloody say yes! After 8 yrs, buying a crap house and having a baby (wonderful) together I think he probably will haha

Inspired by this thread I asked my partner of 21 years to marry me today. Thankfully he said yes. My proposal wasn't so romantic. He is away with work so I sent him a text message this morning and sweated it out all day waiting on a reply. Our almost 18 daughter decreed that the wedding must make place after her birthday so she can legally drink. DS(12) announced that it was exciting but he was still a bastard. DD2 (6) advised that she will be not involved and will do the music instead. She has already chosen the songs on her electronic keyboard.

How thrilling, phedre! Congratulations. I hope he had a legitimate reason for making you sweat it out for a reply!

According to him it was because his phone was in his hotel room as he he is supposed to ignore work for conference duties and he replied as soon as he read my text message. I doubt it personally as he loves his phone more than life itself.

He is out on the town with his second cousin tonight who is on holiday in Oz at the moment. He has plans to tell him before he tells his own mum and dad. I reckon that is a huge mistake. The peeps in the UK will know before his own family. That will make for an interesting skype conversation. Relations: "Hello in-laws - hear M and A have finally made the plunge. When is it happening so we can all book out tickets to Australia" In-laws: "WTF All news to us"

hehe I know he's (dp) is fab Eaudelapoison, he has always done the dinner pre baby and was so excited to have another meat eater in the house - he loves cooking for himself and ds, he also prefers to do the shopping so he does that early saturday mornings and he irons his own shirts . Also dislikes football and doesn't like going out drinking - v lucky me!
