to wonder why, after all she's been through Amanda Holden is planning to 'return to Britain's Got Talent' this weekend?

surely you'd just snuggle up with your newborn for a while longer?

Could not agree with you more. Very strange.

cuteboots · 06/02/2012 13:45

have to agree especially as she was so ill..

GypsyMoth · 06/02/2012 13:45

This weekend? Silly woman!

deaconblue · 06/02/2012 13:46

according to SKy News. I would have thought even if she was under a really strict contract there would some room for negotiation after she was so ill less than a fortnight ago.

I think she probably feels she has to in order to progress/maintain her career, especially now Alesha Dixon's on the panel. Poor Amanda probably thinks she has to show how pretty/accomplished/starry/famous she is incomparison.

Note, I don't necessarily think she's any of these though she is quite pretty...

I'd imagine she's very aware that she has a limited shelf life as a TV personality and I'd imagine this is much easier work than acting and she doesn't want to lose it. If she doesn't do it, someone else will and she might lose it. She's a very driven woman.

It's not what I would do but I can understand why she feels the need.

TessTosterone · 06/02/2012 13:49

I could sort of understand if she had had a normal delivery. But with her previous problems and a 3 day stint on ITU and being near to death I would have thought that bonding with her baby and resting more important.

littlemissnormal · 06/02/2012 13:50

Plus apparently Simon Cowell has temporarily got Carmen Elektra in to take her place who is super sexy and a big star in America!

fatlazymummy · 06/02/2012 13:50

She might feel fine now, and not into 'snuggling with her newborn'.
She is just going to sit in a nice TV studio [or whatever], not dig coal down t'pit.

messymammy · 06/02/2012 13:50

Is she really? Gosh, that's so very soon, isn't it? She must feel under very strong pressure from execs to return or is heavily contracted. Either way, she shouldn't have to. I can't imagine wanting to leave m baby after all that, or feeling up to it, considering she was so sick.

MmeLindor. · 06/02/2012 13:51

It is up to her if she wants to go back.

It is not like she is working down a mine, and presumably she will have her baby with her and can rest between takes.

Correct me if I am wrong, but she is sitting at a desk occasionally pressing a big red buzzer. It is not hard work.

GypsyMoth · 06/02/2012 13:51

She nearly died

squeakytoy · 06/02/2012 13:51

Presumably because she feels up to it, her baby can be waiting backstage with her daddy, and amanda only needs to sit on a chair for a couple of hours looking glamorous for the cameras..

MmeLindor. · 06/02/2012 13:51

xp with fatlazymummy on the down t'pit comment :)

Flisspaps · 06/02/2012 13:51

Maybe she wants to?

It's not like she can't have someone there with her so the baby can be there all day as well.

biddysmama · 06/02/2012 13:52

The baby is probably in the building with her being cared for by her husband or a nanny? will she get maternity pay or does se get paid for appearing?

TheCraicDealer · 06/02/2012 13:52

Well you hear about how ruthless Simon Cowell is when he's deciding on the panel lineup; friendships, previous loyalty or personal circumstances don't factor into the decision-making process. Maybe she feels she has to go back now Sad

ThreaderickDorrit · 06/02/2012 13:52

Its not like she is returning to a 9-5 job that will prevent her from spending time with her baby. Its a few hours sitting on a seat in front of TV cameras. The baby may well be allowed to wait in her dressing room with her husband or a nanny.

Why judge any mother for their choices around work/life balance? Why not support the idea that women should be able to choose when to return to work? Maybe work is vey important for this woman's self esteem, maybe it helps her feel like she is still in control of her life, maybe fufilling this contract will allow her to take more time off later. We don't know so why judge?

sozzledchops · 06/02/2012 13:53

Because she is probably terrified of losing this gig and getting pushed out by someone younger and newer. It's a strange old cut throat business.

ChocolateBiscuitCake · 06/02/2012 13:53

I see why she is doing it: career + $$$ etc.

But she needs perspective after the last 2 years of trauma. Sometimes you DO need to put your life on hold, especially when she is lucky to be alive.

Sometimes you have to let the money go and cherish what you have.

My response would be very different if this happened 2 months ago. But 2 weeks...bonkers.

BiWinning · 06/02/2012 13:53

As much as I'm sure she would like to she has a career to uphold too. Although people would understand if she didn't go back right away she has Alesha Dixon on the panel and Carmen Elektra. I bet she's feeling like if the public take to her for too long she may be out of a job on next year's like Nicole Sherzinger and Cheryl Cole. What shelf life she does have needs to be taken advantage of.

crystalglasses · 06/02/2012 13:53

How many hours a week are we talking about? It can't be very strenuous or time consuming. I'm sure the baby will be near by and of course she has her dh. Give her a break.

2blessed2bstressed · 06/02/2012 13:54

Maybe nearly dying brought home to her how important it is to secure your childs future. I'm not saying it's what I would do, but I'm guessing she'll have her baby with her and will be able to take frequent breaks.
Also, Simon Cowell is quite fickle regarding hiring and firing judges on his various shows, she might be very worried that if she doesn't go back, she'll be permanently replaced.

TheScarlettPimpernel · 06/02/2012 13:54

Maybe, after such a probably life-changing experience, it will be good for her sense of self and identity to briefly remind herself of 'who she is'?

Also none of our business
