I need to loose 2 stone

I know the bottom line is that you need to burn more calories than you eat. I also understand that the types of food you eat can make this easier or harder to do

I have no opportunity to fit in any extra exercise. I do cycle to work, so 6 miles 3 times a week. I walk about 4 miles on another day and rollerskate for 2 hours once a week. Cannot get child free time to increase beyond this

Has anyone of you successfully lost weight with diet modification alone?

Yes.
But by following whichever regime (WW or Very Low Calorie in my case) faithfully and to the letter.
And with no much less exercise than you do!

larks35 · 05/02/2012 14:00

That sounds quite a lot excercise-wise, so perhaps moderating your food intake will be enough. What is your diet like currently?

NorksAkimbo · 05/02/2012 14:01

Not really, and I didn't want to, just because I didn't want to be skinny but flabby from not doing some exercise. You ARE regularly exercising, though...it's not like you're trying to lose weight sat on your sofa every night, so just decrease your calorie intake, and keep your activity levels the same. I can't cycle to work, but I make sure I walk or run for at least 30 minutes at least 4 times a week.

Smaller portions, healthy, whole food and a bit of activity...you should lose it in no time.

troisgarcons · 05/02/2012 14:01

Food poisoning I found was arather good method to shift 2 stone in 2 weeks. Not recommended though.

MaureenMLove · 05/02/2012 14:04

Yes. I lost 6 pounds last week and not exercise. I plan to do the same next week!

Memoo · 05/02/2012 14:06

Yes, following slimming world.

NW20 · 05/02/2012 14:09

Yes, following a low-carb diet (just low, not no carb) lost weight easily with very minimal exercise (much less than you currently).

WorraLiberty · 05/02/2012 14:10

The thing with walking and cycling is that it really only firms up your legs.

My friend is a size 22 and walks and cycles everywhere.

She's been that size for about 15yrs but she has great solid legs.

My fitness pal is the way forward, you can get an app for your phone Smile

CupOfBrownJoy · 05/02/2012 14:13

I lost 2 stone with Slimming World, and did no exercise whatsoever.

I was very careful about following it to the letter, and actually I took up running after I'd lost the weight to give me a fresh challenge.

Good luck

MoneyBunny · 05/02/2012 14:15

Yes, 12 kg with the cambridge diet. Absolutely no exercise.

AppleAndBlackberry · 05/02/2012 14:17

Yes, I counted calories and ate about 1500 a day. Did it for a year and lost about 2 stone.

ScarfOfSexualPreference · 05/02/2012 14:18

Yup, on week 3 of a VLCD and lost a stone already. At same exercise levels as before, walking roughly 8 miles a day nothing more. In fact, advised not to do too much exercise on this! But having 600 cals a day is not for averyone.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 05/02/2012 14:18

Slimming World for me, and I felt I ate more healthily with Slimming World. Less exercise than you!

bejeezus · 05/02/2012 14:19

Those is encouraging!

I eat really good healthy food with lots and lots of fruit and Veg. But also lots and lots of cake and chocolate!

I have 2 problems I think; sugar addiction and comfort eating

Looks Luke skimming world is successful then

Jeez trois 2 stone, 2 weeks!

I went from 13 and a half stone to 9 stone 3 pounds in 8 months last year without doing any exercise. Weight loss averaged out at 1 and 3 quarter pounds a week. I cut all crap, then cut most carbs and portion size. I just find exercise made me starving and messed everything up. The weight come of really evenly and am now a small size 12 and have amazed myself by ending up the same shape I was 16 years ago.
I thought of weight loss in terms of half stone blocks instead of an end goal. I started out thinking it would be good to lose a stone by summer and then just kept going.

BIWI · 05/02/2012 14:22

You can easily lose weight without doing any exercise.

Sounds like you need to shift to a low carb way of eating though - loads and loads of fruit with cake and chocolate will guarantee that you pile on the weight!

Ghoulwithadragontattoo · 05/02/2012 14:23

You are exercising you don't need to do more than you're doing. I'm sure you could easily lose weight just by reducing the number of calories you're eating. Maybe the fact that you're exercising a lot especially out of doors is making you very hungry and your grabbing something filling (but calorific) to compensate.

CupOfBrownJoy · 05/02/2012 14:24

on the low carb thing - when I did SW I had mostly green days, so I actually ate tons of pasta and rice, although no bread and few potatoes.

It is possible to lose weight and eat carbs!

DonInKillerHeels · 05/02/2012 14:24

Yes. Doing exercise does absolutely nothing to help you lose weight in the short to medium. Reducing calorie intake is the only way forward.

Of course exercise is good for you in all sorts of other ways, and you should be trying to increase the amount of it you do, but don't expect it to help with weight loss.

bejeezus · 05/02/2012 14:24

The thought of low carb upsets me! I love potatoes, pasta, rice

I don't just eat fruit and chocolate!

Aren't you really hungry if you don't eat carbs?

Yes- following a GI diet. Lost the weight steadily (around a stone and a half) and it stayed off. Did leave my tummy flabby though and whilst I look slim-ish with my clothes on, without them/ being in a bikini- I don't feel confident.

I need to tone up but hate exercise, especially in cold weather like this.

Do both- exercise and watch what you eat. Just need to follow my own advice!
