It is DD's 2nd birthday today. Not only have I had to cancel her birthday party but DH stayed overnight with her at MIL's last night to give me a peaceful evening to finish the party arrangements and it looks possible that they are stuck there. So I might not even see DD at all on her birthday.

So everyone that is going on about how exciting the fucking snow is - yeah, great. it's great WHEN YOUR PLANS AREN'T FUCKED BY IT

Oh dear. That is very disappointing. Can you move the party? Celebrate her birthday another day. I know how you must be feeling. Rage with tears I'd imagine. I hope they get home.

troisgarcons · 05/02/2012 09:26

Why have you had to cancel? Where do you live (vague, not specific) is anywhere in the UK really snowed in yet (excepting deepest rural Scotland)

On the plus side, shes 2, she doesnt even know what a birthday is yet

OffMeTrolley · 05/02/2012 09:27

Not one flake dawn sarf here

CiderwithBuda · 05/02/2012 09:28

Oh no. How bad is the snow???

How far away are they?

ChippyMinton · 05/02/2012 09:29

Where are you? Snow's melting here.

troisgarcons · 05/02/2012 09:30

trolley you not got any? About 5 inches overnight here (Kent/Sarf London) and my mate in Brighton is moaning madly about it.

sunshineandshowers13 · 05/02/2012 09:31

No snow in deepest rural scotland at the mo Blush. SorrySad

nenevomito · 05/02/2012 09:32

Not a single flake has fallen here, but we've got nice line in icy fog.

Kladdkaka · 05/02/2012 09:33

Snow's fine if you're prepared for it. It's not the snow's fault if you're not.

AuntingCarse · 05/02/2012 09:34

Oh dear, OhdearNigel that's rotten Sad. We have lots in London, but it's rather a novelty for my youngest DC as she's never seen it (we've been living abroad).

Roads seem to be clearing though. I have everything crossed for you that they can get back to you soonest.

OhdearNigel · 05/02/2012 09:34

Party was at my Mum and Dad's house but they are 4 inches under snow (they live down a steep slope). A lot of the guests can't get out of their side roads so we decided it was easiest just to cancel.
It's not really too bad, we are doing it next week instead now and at least the food was easy to freeze. The annoying bits are that I was really looking forward to it and I spent ages making her birthday cake which won't keep until next week so I will have to make it again

MrsSleepy · 05/02/2012 09:34

Did you not know it was going to snow?

OhdearNigel · 05/02/2012 09:35

and she's too young to know (a) it's her birthday (b) that she was having a party. At least she's not 6

OP posts:
OhdearNigel · 05/02/2012 09:37

Didn't think it would snow so heavily and what exactly is your point ? I didn't know it was going to snow when I sent the party invitations out in December, did I ?

Snow in Brighton - Progress Report

Substance - 1/10
Appearance - 1/10
Potential for disruption - 0/10

Could do better frankly. Somewhat lacking bottom and difficult to take it seriously.

HandMini · 05/02/2012 09:39

Kladdkaka - do you mean to give the OP a verbal poke in the eye? How could she have prepared better?

OhdearNigel · 05/02/2012 09:39

troisgarcons - we're not far from Brighton.

The thing is, people generally don't really want to travel in snow and I know from the conversations I have had with people that about 50% of the guests weren't going to come because of the snow. Seemed pointless to carry on with it in those circumstances

TheOneWithTheHair · 05/02/2012 09:39

OhdearNigel any news about being with her? Do you think you will be able to?

Poor you:(. Not the worst thing in the world to happen but upsetting all the same.

SydSaid · 05/02/2012 09:39

YANBU. The snow can be a right PITA.

I'm grateful we just have rain here. Lots of rain. I'd far rather that than lots of snow. I hope she has a great party next week, and that they make it home safe and sound soon.

GypsyMoth · 05/02/2012 09:39

Why so sweary?

OhdearNigel · 05/02/2012 09:41

Thankyou Handmini, I'm not quite sure what exactly Kladdkaka thought I could do - maybe grit the A269 from Hastings to Hailsham ? Or personally dig my MILs car out from where it is snowed in on her drive.
DH does not want to drive at the moment - and he is a police pursuit driver who is very happy driving in snow.

sodapops · 05/02/2012 09:42

That is really disappointing, Nigel.

We were going to go to book our holiday today, but we aren't going to risk it now because of the snow. And, yes I did know it might snow, but we couldn't go yesterday and DH works all week and I can't drive that far because of a disability.

LoveInAColdClimate · 05/02/2012 09:42

Oh dear, you poor thing, how disappointing. We've had about four inches but it does seem to be clearing a little so hopefully they can make it back soon. DH has been stuck at a friend's house overnight but the trains are running now and he is going to try to come home, so hopefully you will have your DD and DH back soon.

What on earth was that supposed to mean, MrsSleepy? Nigel's not a bloody long range meteorologist (at least as far as I know!).

MrsSleepy · 05/02/2012 09:42

I just meant we were aware the snow was coming for the past few days and so had cancelled a sleepover that we were going to have last night due to living in a rural village and on a steep hill so we knew it would be difficult for the kids to be picked up today, Also I did not want 4 other kids for an extra day!

I would just have thought if you knew say, Friday then you would have cancelled it then?

Kladdkaka · 05/02/2012 09:42

No I was just saying that lack of preparedness (by all affected by it) is the problem, not the snow. For example, winter tyres on cars or snow chains in the boot and nobody would be confined to barracks after just a few inches of snow.
