It is DD's 2nd birthday today. Not only have I had to cancel her birthday party but DH stayed overnight with her at MIL's last night to give me a peaceful evening to finish the party arrangements and it looks possible that they are stuck there. So I might not even see DD at all on her birthday.

So everyone that is going on about how exciting the fucking snow is - yeah, great. it's great WHEN YOUR PLANS AREN'T FUCKED BY IT

yes, it's a full on rant. So what ?

Snow on any given day in February is not "more likely than not" in the UK! Do you live in the alps, wannabe? There is no way that in modern times there have been more snowy days in February than non snowy!

SAHMwannabe · 05/02/2012 10:01

A common weather phenomen is not a rantable subject.

This would be like someone saying that a rain shower in April had ruined their party. It's to be expected!

scottishmummy · 05/02/2012 10:02

You are laugh out loud funny
No doubt you'll retort with how orrid I is

OhdearNigel · 05/02/2012 10:02

a) it's not common
b) you are making yourself look stupid

I wondered how long we'd get until the 'other people have it far worse' thing was trollied out. We don't have to filter our disappointments through the disappointments of others. My Mum wasn't told to shut up feeling sad by her consultant when she lost part of her leg to cancer because other people had lost their whole legs. We are all entitled to our feelings and MN is the ideal place to vent them. And at no point was the op shocked it had snowed in February. She's just disappointed her plans were ruined. I've seen more swearing over supermarkets and lack of organic plums on MN.

SAHMwannabe · 05/02/2012 10:04

No I live in the South of England, over the years as a child I had many ice skating parties, as ice/snow could be guaranteed for my February birthday.

I have winter babies myself so am aware of the inconvenience of the weather on parties.

scottishmummy · 05/02/2012 10:04

Yes but a histrionic outpouring is bit disproportionate to the circumstances
But it is v v funny
Please do continue.please

OhdearNigel · 05/02/2012 10:05

it's the MN competitive misery syndrome. I do think that some posters must live in the 4 yorkshiremen sketch

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 05/02/2012 10:09

No it's a straight forward laugh at your ridiculous post
No misery
No Yorkshire men
Plenty laughs at your puce indignation though
As I said please,continue.

McHappyPants2012 · 05/02/2012 10:10

after the snow of december 2010 i got snow socks for the car, they work fantastic.

i do belive we all should be bettter prepared for the snow.

however i don't think i would venture out for the sake of a party

sodapops · 05/02/2012 10:10

Well my birthday is in February. I shall be 41 this year and I have never had snow on my birthday.

Both my DSes' birthdays are in December and it has only been the past two or three years, out of 17, that they have had snow on their birthdays.

OP, you have every right to be pissed off with the fucking, wanking, shitting snow, I know I would be in your shoes!

LetsKateWin · 05/02/2012 10:12

YANBU Ohdear. I would just ignore scottishmummy. She's only trying to wind you up and will probably get bored if she gets no reaction from you.

As someone else said, it must be great if nothing ever disappoints you.

NoMoreCakeOclock · 05/02/2012 10:13

You sent out invitations in December? Shock

OhdearNigel · 05/02/2012 10:13

On the plus side, I have an unexpected day at home on my own - which will be spent watching SATC and throwing out some old junk :D

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 05/02/2012 10:14

Wind her up,not likely
She's got there all own her own

OhdearNigel · 05/02/2012 10:15

nomorecake - yes, because almost everyone that was coming works shifts and have to get their days off booked up in advance.

GreenEyesAndHam · 05/02/2012 10:16

God I wish my child was stuck somewhere else away from me. I'm just about to be dragged out sledging by mine. Oh joy Hmm

ShowOfHands · 05/02/2012 10:16

My birthday's in December. It snowed once, on my 21st and looking back it's a really lovely memory.

It will be a great little story for dd when she's older. My 4yo dd loves talking about her first couple of birthdays and looking at the photographs. Get some pics of the snow if you can to show her when she's older.

miniwedge · 05/02/2012 10:16

I am finding it really funny that the op is being told off for swearing when we thread titles such as cunting sainsbury in classics. Grin

Sorry you're having a rubbish day op, I'd probably be swearing if I were in your snow shoes too.

Can you snuggle down in front of a film with hot chocolate and move dd's birthday to next weekend. Ie do your resent giving etc then as well as the party? We did that one year with dd when she had measles on her birthday.

NoMoreCakeOclock · 05/02/2012 10:17

Ok that makes sense, phew Grin

OhdearNigel · 05/02/2012 10:19

DH and ILs are doing some presents with her this morning and have taken her out in the garden to play in the snow. DH's BF lives round the corner from them and he has taken his little girl round to play as well. DH is planning on coming home a bit later this afternoon when the side roads have sludged up a bit

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 05/02/2012 10:22

So all things considered,no problem
No need to be so vexed

PrisonerOfWaugh · 05/02/2012 10:26

Some rather harsh comments here!

Anyway, what sort of cake is it op? Sponge and icing freezes very well - any chance you can remove any delicate toppers and freeze the rest?

Hope your little one enjoys the snow on her birthday and you are reunited soon.

OhdearNigel · 05/02/2012 10:29

I've already froxen it once and it's covered with sugarpaste which doesn't freeze (well it freezes but melts on defrosting)

It'll be fine - it's the same recipe as I made for our wedding cake and that was still fine 10 days after when we came back from honeymoon.

It's a rainbow layer cake and I was really looking forward to cutting it and seeing how the layers had worked out. It's got rastamouse figures and background on it
