...how do you not remember some things you've read them say so it doesn't influence you when you come across them again?

Not anything in particular, but when posters say 'well I never take any notice of which poster says what', what if you can't help but make the connection?

I agree spats and shit shouldn't be dragged across the boards, and that a poster who's seemingly being shitty one minute on a thread you can have a laugh with the next.

But sometimes it's hard not to let what you've read colour your view of a poster.

I'm not being unreasonable I've had gin or I wouldn't have posted would I? Wink or Smile? Can't decide.

Really worra - well it's time for a change anyway - thank you for giving me the spur!

salmonella - it has a certain ring to it!

squeakytoy · 05/02/2012 11:08

Sorry if it has coloured your view of me

Dont worry stranded.. you are safe.... I got the blame! Grin

There's only really one poster who makes me shout 'COCK!' internally when I read their names, there are many, many more who I secretly heart and almost always find their posts amusing. Wouldn't spill the beans on either though, that takes away the fun.

WorraLiberty · 05/02/2012 11:09

squeaky you whipping boy you Grin

I think SalmonellaSunset has a certain ring to it Grin

SiamoNellaMerda · 05/02/2012 11:10

It certainly does - in much the same way as BhunaBogDash does Grin

WorraLiberty · 05/02/2012 11:12

Oh stop trying to curry favour Grin

AgentZigzag · 05/02/2012 15:21

The thread wasn't inspired by what you said strandedbear it was because of that weirdy squeaky poster it's the competative disinterest which some people put across like they're putting down anyone who does notice or care about who's on the other end of the keyboard.

I'll always remember you as a cockknocker now though snowboarder Smile could be worse.

My memory is f'ked not great so I generally haven't a clue who is who.
The only exception is when I open a thread and it's all 'in talk' - only they understand the 'in jokes' and I think- why are they chatting on a public forum and not f'book, twitter, text. A few names spring to mind there.

Jacksmania · 05/02/2012 16:12

Honestly, I have to say when someone says they never notice posting names, I don't quite buy it.

lollilou · 05/02/2012 16:14

There are a couple of posters whose names I recognize from other threads usually ones that are quite forthright or give very good advice. There is one who wrote a reply that upset me on one of my threads so I always notice her name.

BelleDameSansMerci · 05/02/2012 16:18

There are two posters who generally really piss me off. I hate it when I find myself agreeing with them. Grin

AgentZigzag · 05/02/2012 16:22

'I hate it when I find myself agreeing with them'

That can be very irritating and unnerving, I agree Grin

Proudnscary · 05/02/2012 16:25

I always look at who's posted and I have posted I find intelligent/funny and ones I think are total fucking arseholes.

I agree with Jacksmania (twice - Grin). Don't buy the 'oh I never notice names' especially if you've been on here I few years.

But I've got a shite memory so probably only accurately remember 10/15 names absolute tops.

ValarMorghulis · 05/02/2012 16:26

I am very bad at remembering names in RL so on here it is even worse.

I was posting on a lot of the benefit threads recently and MMM(someone) gave me some very good advice. However i have since noticed that there are a couple of MMMM names and so i now have no idea which one was so helpful.

Though i do remember one particular name as being deliberately obtuse on a thread and so if i came across them again i would probably have a predisposition to find whatever they had put irritating.

but other than that, no, I don't take any notice of the names.

Proudnscary · 05/02/2012 16:26

And I have posted/ I few years - WTF? Apologies for nonsensical wibblings.

CotherMuckingFunt · 05/02/2012 16:28

I have a shit list. The names don't often change. But then I have a love list and an interesting list and a keep an eye to make sure they're ok list and a giggle at most of their posts list...

WorraLiberty · 05/02/2012 16:32

I don't remember nicknames because other forums have made me lazy

I'm used to reading down a thread and seeing little avatars on the left and I recognise the poster from it.

It's the same on my FB. I only have about 50 people on there but if they change their profile pic, I'm fucked Grin

Hassled · 05/02/2012 16:35

I'm shit at registering people's names so it's not really an issue. A couple of people I might be a touch wary of but that's the extent of it.

Are the people who can't remember who they replied to on a thread generally the same people who can't put names to faces in RL? Because that's me.

exoticfruits · 05/02/2012 16:37

Only if I always agree or always disagree.
Someone seemed pained to agree with me yesterday, it seemed they don't normally, but I haven't a clue who they were.

WorraLiberty · 05/02/2012 16:37

I can put names to face Hassled

I think that's why I struggle to remember people on here because I'm quite a visual person I suppose.

SuePurblybilt · 05/02/2012 16:45

I'm always glad that MN doesn't have avatars cos I know I would be mean to people with sparkly unicorns/fairies/kittens and that Would Be Wrong. But I'm not sure I could stop myself Grin

ValarMorghulis · 05/02/2012 16:47

I don't think i would necessarily be mean, but I would be less inclined to give any credence to their posts. Which in itself is wrong based solely on their penchant for fluffy glitteryness
