to absolutely detest things with bloody cupcakes and bloody shoes on them?

Okay, I am not some CEO hotshot but I still don't want to turn up to serious meetings with a notebook covered in bleeding cupcakes and shoes. When did these things become the defining images of womanhood? I don't mind shoes, some of them are quite nice, but the amount of TAT out there raising them into some kind of occult fetish is chilling. Anyway finally found a nice Sanderson print notebook but slightly drained by the amount of shoes I've had to look at. Do 'normal' women love them or something? Or is a lazy sub SATC stereotype?

Mm you seem quite angry about this ..
Why don't you just buy a plain note book from Tesco ?

WorraLiberty · 29/01/2012 23:00

Never thought about it really.

I buy my note books and diaries from the pound shop and they're just plain red/black/blue with the date on the front and normal pages inside.

RobinSparkles · 29/01/2012 23:02

I quite like things with cupcakes and shoes on. I just like the pictures, but yeah, just get a plain note pad from Tesco. Confused

TCOB · 29/01/2012 23:02

Guess it's because searching for stationery online (I live in the middle of nowhere) I've only just noticed what strongly recurring theme they are. Maybe it is just me and they are the accepted twin icons of gurliness.

I was ranting about this to dh the other day!
I wanted to buy a folder and they ALL had cupcakes on them! Wtf?
Ditto tea towels.

I'm really sick of seeing cupcakes everywhere.

TCOB · 29/01/2012 23:05

That's my point, Laquitar - it's not just notebooks, the damn things are everywhere!

Fucking cupcakes. They're everywhere, like a particularly nasty and scrofulously persisten rash. Just when did this malign invasion start anyway?

Got to admit I quite like them in the eating form Smile. Just not the weird iconic, symbol-of-all-the-cute-helplessness-of-those-silly-little-women form.

TiggyD · 29/01/2012 23:07

You're wrong. It's actually aimed at fat transvestites.

SwedishEdith · 29/01/2012 23:08

Not even to eat. They have bullied out the humble fairy cake. Vulgar things.

TCOB · 29/01/2012 23:09

Was at Cadbury world recently (wicked day out BTW) and they had chocolate shaped shoes. Are people really that crazy about shoes as well?
Adverse - a kitten wearing a tiara and shoes eating a cupcake may just finish me off.

What SwedishEdith said.

GrimmaTheNome · 29/01/2012 23:10

Surely these items are aimed at tweenage girls not grown women?

Though my 12 yr old DD was a bit HmmConfused at the number of her xmas pressies from friends which were cupcake inspired (only one shoe keyring). Bath bomb, hot water bottle, xmas decoration ...

ReneeVivien · 29/01/2012 23:11

Yup, all women love cupcakes. And overpriced handbags and shoes. Don't forget smelly candles in the bath and 'me time'.

GrimmaTheNome · 29/01/2012 23:12

I have never made a cupcake. Fairy cakes only (anything bigger has to be a muffin). Just Say No.

dearprudence · 29/01/2012 23:13

YANBU. Cupcakes are vile and sickly.Shoes are nice. But I don't want pictures of them on everything. And I really dislike cards that go on about shopping, as if that's some kind of leisure activity.

I always imagine that people who have this kind of stuff wear feather boas on a night out because they're 'fun', or enjoy watching the film Mama Mia.

TCOB · 29/01/2012 23:15

Grimma sadly I think they are actually aimed at grown women - this whole thing that all we'd all simply die to get our hands on some Louboutins ?sp simply because we have vaginas.

TiggyD · 29/01/2012 23:16

I think you might be wearing them wrong TCOB.

TCOB · 29/01/2012 23:16

Renee just one more thing to add to the list - we all like walking along with our friends in rows of four shrieking.

WorraLiberty · 29/01/2012 23:18

Don't you think you're taking this a little too far though?

Obviously some women do like them or there wouldn't be a market for them.

It's simply supply and demand...nothing to do with having vaginas or anything else.

TCOB · 29/01/2012 23:20

That's why I've put it in AIBU Worra - I'm perfectly prepared to discover there's a whole market out there for them and actually I'm part of a wee little minority who doesn't give a shit. I'm not about to go out with placards or anything (down with shoes!) or start the fairy cake liberation front.
