The book says periods happen ever 28 days. that is 4 weeks.

I have had 23 days. That is only just over 3 weeks.

It Is SO Unfair

AND it hurts.

The book says childbirth cures period pain.

Does it Fuck.

I think I need a new book.

3 fucking weeks though. that is taking the piss isn't it? AIU to expect a bit of a sodding break?

my periods became steadily worse from age 40 - by 45 (last year) I had a heavy period that lasted from end of august until late October. At one point I lost a pint in 36 hours and looked like a zombie, tried norestosterone, tried transexamic and meflu somethingorpther acid...nothing helped.

....then put on mirena, I bled for the first 6 months!!!, then had 10 days off, then bled again for 34 days. In that time had bacterial infection twice and group B strep twice. Then saw gyne, who recommended ablation (which I had done in October), SInce then, No periods, its been wonderful. I already knew I didn't want more children of my own.

If you are at the point of no more kids, I cannot recommend Novasure ablation enough, I feel fabulous, no more weak and feebleness due to constant blood loss, have lost some weight, skin is better, libido is better....

saladsandwich · 27/01/2012 23:04

my cycles getting terrible, dont know if its stress, hormonal or what but im getting to the point im having 17days off and 5-6 days on. they are getting heavier and heavier this last ones been really really heavy, i felt awful and i looked drained.... although i dont really get period pains too bad anymore

lou33 · 27/01/2012 23:40

mirena is not recommended for anyone with a history of depression btw

QueenStromba · 28/01/2012 09:53

Where did you hear that lou33? I've had three different doctors suggest the mirena to me recently while still on anti depressants from my last bout of crippling depression.

Splinters · 28/01/2012 10:16

Thanks, MissMj! That's actually exactly what I wanted to know Grin

mopbucket · 28/01/2012 11:08

Ohgoonthenpouranother · 28/01/2012 11:23

Queen it says it on the packet so to speak.
Do not let your doc talk you into it.
I love mine btw

Lovethesea · 28/01/2012 12:00

It's rubbish, especially if you don't want any more kids.

I had mefenemic acid when a teen. Lightened the periods and stopped the worst of the cramps. Worth a shot. It's an anti inflammatory if I remember right?

On microgynon now. Love it. I take 3 packs back to back then have a fake period. Then back on packs. So 4 periods a year. Originially they put in fake periods to reassure women they weren't pregnant and make it more 'natural'. I did read somewhere they advise having a bleed every 3 months as they haven't really tested avoiding a period permanently and they wonder if it could cause health issues in the uterus but probably not.

Only time microgynon didn't work was a few months after DD's birth. My hormones hadn't settled enough so I had breakthrough bleeding then a 21 day period. Grim. Came off it for a bit then back on and fine.

Don't think it is making me low - I know I am but I can see obvious reasons for that!

eurochick · 28/01/2012 12:02

Rhubarb I know that black cloud lifting feeling. I was put on Dianette for PCOS as a teenager. I spent my first year of university in tears and almost quit. Came off it and then had a great time! I hadn't realised how bad I was feeling until I came off it. It sort of crept up on me.

Move to Japan - average cycle there is 31 days.

Sorry being flippant - have yoou tried depo jabs? They don't work for everyone but for me there is nothing, no period, no vomit, no clots, no ovary pain, nothing - worth a go.

lou33 · 31/01/2012 14:49

Stromba, the specialist I went to see before i had the tcre procedure told me, as she was going through other alternatives and explaining why they were not suitable for me, and the mirena was one of them i could not try as i had a history of depression. She was v certain it was not to be tried as an option. I also had a friend who had a mirena fitted and had a history of depression, and it made her feel 1000 times worse, and she ended up having it removed

cyb · 09/02/2012 13:08

I cant have a mirena becuase of my freaky shaped womb

So have been prescribed Norethisterone to try and regulate my cycle and make it longer (I bleed 17 days after the last one) and to help with my chronic PMT

Anyone else tried this?

Freshlettice · 09/02/2012 13:34

Two words: Mirena coil. Go get one fitted. Now.

mrspnut · 09/02/2012 13:44

I had tranexamic acid for lightening my periods and reducing their length but I decided on the implant instead. I bled very lightly for a few weeks and since then I bleed very lightly for a day or two once a month. Easily contained in a liner and no pain at all.

I was told to try the implant for 6 months because it takes that long to settle down and if that didn't work then we might be looking at more long term solutions but we've finished having children and could do with the whole lot being whipped out.
