to think that having to have periods is bad enough but this is truly taking the piss?

AtYourCervix · 27/01/2012 10:48

The book says periods happen ever 28 days. that is 4 weeks.

I have had 23 days. That is only just over 3 weeks.

It Is SO Unfair

AND it hurts.

The book says childbirth cures period pain.

Does it Fuck.

I think I need a new book.

3 fucking weeks though. that is taking the piss isn't it? AIU to expect a bit of a sodding break?

Atyourcevix only if you film and upload it cos it would be even better than the spot porn. Grin

Hope you are feeling better soon. Here's a Brew and a Biscuit

MissMarjoribanks · 27/01/2012 12:54

I hate my bastard periods at the moment as well. Pre DS, I was on Cerazette for years and years. Not a single period in all that time. It was bliss. There's no point going back on the pill now as we haven't finished our family or I would be back on it like a shot.

17 days of bleeding. 17 days. Fucking things. I thought it had stopped the day before yesterday as well and then went to the loo at a Very Important Meeting at work to find the buggering thing had started again. Bog roll in pants time.

Splinters · 27/01/2012 13:15

I loved Cerazette too! MissM, can I be really nosey and ask how long it took your cycle to get back to normal after you stopped taking it?

GetOrfMoiiLand · 27/01/2012 13:48

Have any of you tried Menlafamic acid (I made that word up, but is sounds similar). DD was prescribed it for her hideously heavy periods. It worked very well - reduced both the flow and the pain - but she went on the pill in the end to stop them completely.

JParkson · 27/01/2012 14:06

I was given mefenamic acid to stop the bleeding when my stupid GPs misdiagnosed my ectopic as a uterine infection.

Yes it stopped the bleeding but obviously hid the reason why I was bleeding. I'll probably consider using it when if I have my next period phase between DCs (with GP's authorisation I suppose...)

Pantah630 · 27/01/2012 14:31

Didn't know mefenamic acid stopped the bleeding. I use it for ovulation pain, excruciating, starts low in tummy then coils round the back as if a pokers going up your bum. It lasts about two hours of me rocking back and forth on the bed, settee, floor without.

I have had very heavy bleeding since 12 yo, was on micronor mini pill after ds1, which slowed it down to a 2-3 day heavy, 2 day light bleed for a few years. After ds2 I had a mirena coil fitted and after a year of two week, very light thankfully, bleeds, then a week off, then more bleeding. It settled down and I am back to a 28 day cycle as with the micronor.

My five years are up next year, not looking forward to going through it all again but the alternative is to take the early hysterectomy route that my sister, late twenties, and both my mum and her twin, in early thirties did. Don't fancy that at all.

Feeling your pain OP, I suggest hot water bottle, tea and The Killing on DVD :)

Shakirasma · 27/01/2012 14:41

Since I had my youngest who is nearly 5, my cycle has been all over the place, but averages a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off!

In the middle of that 2 week period I have about 3 days where it's heavy and the rest of the time it's quite light, meaning I have to use sani towels rather than tampons which make me sweaty and sore.

All my doctor has tried is the pill, various brands, which I can't take because it makes me sick, the mini pill which made me bleed heavy and non-stop, and some tablet which was supposed to fling my body back into a regular cycle. Nothing has worked and I don't want to be pumped full of fake hormones. I wish I could have a hysterectomy.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 27/01/2012 14:45

Poor you pantah. You can have another mirena though - just have the old one taken out, and they will put a new one straight back in (that is what they did with me).

lou33 · 27/01/2012 14:47

Norethisterone can help reduce bleeding, though it didnt work for me, so i ended up having a trans cervical resection of the endometrium.

No periods for almost 2 years now, heaven

Before that i would be changing a super plus tampon every 20 mins and bleeding through onto seats still.

Pantah630 · 27/01/2012 14:58

GetOrf that's my plan, just hope they can do that.

Lou, I remember that with the super plus' then I changed to a mooncup....it gave new meaning to my cup runneth over Blush

GetOrfMoiiLand · 27/01/2012 15:00

You changed a super plus tampon after 20 minutes?

Oh that is absolutely awful. Do the drs not do anything about it? It must be impossible to live your life normally with periods like that. Really Sad for you.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 27/01/2012 15:01

Oh sorry I have just seen that they did do something.

It is shite that in this day and age women are still suffering so much from heavy and painful periods.

CoqAuFanjo · 27/01/2012 15:04

The book said if I breastfed I wouldn't have periods. In reality I bled randomly for the first 9wks postnatal then the doctors gave me a contraceptive pill that's made me bleed for the last 8wks. So for the 17wks of my DD's life I've been bleeding AND breastfeeding.

The book is shat.

Astronaut79 · 27/01/2012 15:13

THeRubarb - I came off Microgynon in my early 20s cos it was making me nuts (big, black depressions, something approaching panic attacks - all v out of character). I know the info warns that depression can be a side effect, but every time I mention Microgynon to people I hear a similar story.Logynon worked and I quite liked it, but Bf has put paid to all that now.

Mind you, since having Ds, I only had 3 periods before I got pregnant (had a 13 month preiod reprieve, thank you bf), so god only knows what'll happen now.

OhTootles · 27/01/2012 15:15

I've just started Cileste after 5 years on heavy, long and irregular periods whilst having two dc and painful ovulation that just got worse each month. So far its been awful, nausea, dizziness, light-headiness, headaches and now an increased appetite. However, I'm going to persevere for another month at least as I don't want to go back.

My gp suggested the Mirena when I went to discuss the pill but for some reason the thought of it being put in and out frightens me, let me know if I'm being silly.

OhTootles · 27/01/2012 15:15

P.S. The Book is full of shit!

Psammead · 27/01/2012 15:16

You know ŵhat else is unfair? Having a baby, breastfeeding around the clock and sodding periods coming back within two months. Fuckers.

Psammead · 27/01/2012 15:16

Shock I done something to my 'what' there. Made it all mystical.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 27/01/2012 15:22

Tootles - no, it doesn't hurt at all tbh. Just a bit niggly down there for a few secs, but no worse than a smear, and takes seconds.

forkful · 27/01/2012 15:33

For those with short cycles - eg 21 days - I have a massive recommendation for you - Agnus Castus. It is a herbal tablet. Every so often my cycles will drift shorter towards 21 days - I take a couple of months of Agnus Castus and they go up to ~ 27 days.

Definitely worth ago before mucking around with the pill etc.

It also helps with PMS. Grin

lou33 · 27/01/2012 15:47

Yes it was horrendous, thankfully now sorted. It got to the stage where i would just sit on a towel on the sofa too scared to move, because when i did i would bleed everywhere and the tampon would come out too! I felt really dizzy and weak too because of it.

I wasn't worried about not being able to have children after the op as I had been sterilised some years before. I was just pleased to get it fixed and that i had avoided a hysterectomy (ds2 is in a wheelchair so no way would I have been able to rest for 6 weeks).

SophiaMurdoch · 27/01/2012 16:41

I've read that this can be helped by eating 3 oranges daily or taking vitamin C tablets but haven't yet tried it myself. This has also recently become a problem for me.I used to be just four days which has now dragged onto 19-15 days for the last two months and periods even 40 days in between.

MissMarjoribanks · 27/01/2012 17:28

Splinters - I conceived DS within 6 weeks of coming off Cerazette so not time to establish whether I was having normal cycles or not. He was conceived on CD19 according to scan so longer cycle than normal for me, but obviously fertile one!

TheRhubarb · 27/01/2012 19:40

Astronaut - there should be more warnings about Microgynon because like you said, I've heard that about it now and i just wish I had known the side effects when I was on it. It nearly destroyed my relationship with dh (who was then my boyfriend) and caused me to hurt myself on numerous occasions. I didn't have a clue what was happening but when I came off it, I just had a huge sense of relief, of a black cloud being lifted off me.

It's taken me 10 years to finally try the combined pill again. I'm on a low dosage so have to take it at the same time every day etc, but I'm not using it for contraception and it does help with my periods. I'm happy with it for now.

maddening · 27/01/2012 22:28

I would see gp as it sounds like yoyr luteal phase has shortened so maybe a hormonal hiccup that hasn't righted - I would check to be sure
