to think that having to have periods is bad enough but this is truly taking the piss?

The book says periods happen ever 28 days. that is 4 weeks.

I have had 23 days. That is only just over 3 weeks.

It Is SO Unfair

AND it hurts.

The book says childbirth cures period pain.

Does it Fuck.

I think I need a new book.

3 fucking weeks though. that is taking the piss isn't it? AIU to expect a bit of a sodding break?

Hang on ladies - as far as I remember a traditional coil simply stopped a ferltilised egg from implanting (and often led to heavier, more painful periods) and the newer Mirena type have low doses of hormones so therefore can minimise bleeding.

QueenStromba · 27/01/2012 11:25

They strip the lining of the womb which either makes your periods lighter or stops them altogether. It's not a very common procedure because it's likely to make you infertile but your doctor should be happy enough to give you a referral.

AtYourCervix · 27/01/2012 11:29

the pills i've tried before have made me murderous and depressed (in turn).

endometrial ablation zaps the lining of your uterus so it stops working (basically) can stop the hideous heavy periods.

mine aren't heavy at all but still excrutiating.

it's an excuse to take to my bed with a hot water bottle and Mr Darcy I suppose. Thankfully I have a day off but it's shit when at work.

Ooh thanks ladies...i'll have a word. They're not heavy but frequent and painful. Appreciate the info. :) Enjoy mr darcy AYC

TakeYourScaffoldingWithYou · 27/01/2012 11:38

Write your own book, I think there's a market but don't tell it how it really is, no one wants to hear the truth.

Here's a few notes for my child care one.

Hi, I'm TakeYourScaffoldingWithYou, I've had one baby and now I'm an expert. When you have a baby it will hurt but hopefully you'll be off your face on hormones or hard-core hospital shit. At some point your child may sleep through the night, the next day feel smug and start writing a book about how you did it. The child may start waking up again but don't mention that bit in your book.

PopcornBiscuit · 27/01/2012 11:47

Not normal at all. GP should be doing further tests or refer you to a gynaecologist. Mirena coil might be worth a go, as the hormones are only localised, you're not injecting or eating them.

TheRhubarb · 27/01/2012 11:47

AtYourCervix - same here. I became suicidal and very very aggressive. I was on Microgynon.

This is the very first time I've dared to try taking the pill again and it was after an extensive consulation with my GP. So far so good.

TheRhubarb · 27/01/2012 11:49

Mirena stops the egg production does it not? Via the hormones?

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 27/01/2012 11:52

Pah. Think yourself lucky. I had that blasted Contraceptive injection beginning of November, End of November I started bleeding, and haven't stopped yet. Worst thing is it's just little trickles that constantly make me think it's about to stop!

Charleymouse · 27/01/2012 11:57

Atyourcervix have you tried giving your womb the book to read it may just have been badly advised.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 27/01/2012 11:59

Some said 'where does the blood go'. I think if you are in mirena, or if you take the pill continually so you don't have a period, the uterus wall doesn't actually thicken with blood.

I think it is a fallacy that you have to have a 'break' from the pill. I know lots of people who take it all the time and never have a period.

AtYourCervix · 27/01/2012 12:00

i could try that charley. bit pointy around the cornrs though

TheRhubarb · 27/01/2012 12:02

Spag, I had that too. Never again.
I've now finally found a pill that doesn't affect me (well, my libido might beg to differ) and I'm quite happy with it. I do take breaks but will happily take it without for holidays or when I can't be arsed to have a period.

Marrow · 27/01/2012 12:03

23 days - I wish! I'm currently on my fifth period in 10 weeks!! They are really heavy too and lasting a week so I'm only getting a few days break Sad

Velvetcu · 27/01/2012 12:08

I had dd in October and am ebf so was faithfully promised by the book that my periods would not return for many moons. They came back after 7 weeks and I'm having 15 day cycles and bleeding for 8 days!! I am so fucking fed up with it so I feel your pain too. I'm currently on day 17 so expecting the red bitch anytime Sad

AtYourCervix · 27/01/2012 12:09

have i mentioned the hurt. i ache. i ache. i ache. humph. i may need to go for a nap.

AND i'm supposed to be giving blood next week and i look a bit pale and wan. i hope this earliness doesn't tip mu under the Hb limit. bastard.

AtYourCervix · 27/01/2012 12:10

oh yes velvet - i was hoping i'd get a break after having babies but Oh No. despite The Book saying that I wouldn't I was straight back to normal afterwards (as normal as they have ever been). That book lied too.

I was told Mirena slow-releases a hormone into your uterus which thins the lining of the uterus thus preventing fertilised eggs from embedding.

I had Mirena for 18 months and it was bliss! Next-to-no PMT, light periods, and just nice!

I had it taken out to have DD, and ugh that one month was awful, permanent bad mood, heavy 7 day period on a 30ish day cycle and wanting to gouge out my uterus with a blunt spoon just to stop all the fecking mess! It was also like that inbetween everything kicking back into action and ttc DC3.

The only snag I hit after DD was that I had an ectopic pg. Thus if I try Mirena after I've had my current LO, I'll very likely be prone to having another ectopic. (I'd be prone to this anyway but I think the Mirena ups the chances)

I so want to use it again after we stop having kids, so I'll probably get my remaining tube clipped just to stop the eggs and then use the coil to thin everything out.

Charleymouse · 27/01/2012 12:15

You could maybe hover over a kindle?

Or do they do an audio version. Pop some headphones over your abdomen at night and see how you get on.

Charleymouse · 27/01/2012 12:18

Getorf maybe an old wives tale but I heard the pill was made into a 28 day cycle to include a bleed in order to be as similar as possible to nature to satisfy some of the anti-pill protestors.

May be talking out of my bumholio though.

foreverondiet · 27/01/2012 12:22

Pill? Mirena?

I don't have any periods, due to mirena. I used to take combined pill 2 packs back to back so 7 week cycles.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 27/01/2012 12:24

Yes charley I have heard the same thing. The blees you have when on the pill is artificially created - you are absolutely fine not to have one at all.

I used to have a mirena as well - 10 years of bliss and no periods. The only rather large downside was that I got pregnant on it.

I never know when I am due on. Every 6 weeks or so, and comes and goes within a morning (sorry).

GetOrfMoiiLand · 27/01/2012 12:24

bleed

AtYourCervix · 27/01/2012 12:26

if i push into my gut really hard, with a downwards sort of thrust do you think i could just push the fucker out, then i could hack it off with the breadknife.

My longest period lasted for over 19 weeks - yes weeks. I was severely anaemic and about to be hospitialised when the doctor suggested the nuvo ring. I used it for about 6mths and it sorted my periods out for about two years. When they started going nuts again I had the coil fitted. It's a blessed relief to not have to live in black clothes and be constantly wondering when they are going to arrive.
