SEEKER

Oi, you over here

I was in your Aldi only this evening purchasing cooked delicatessen goods and pretending not to buy chocolate Hmm

So which Waitrose?

Was it the newish one or the newest one further south of you?

AND most importantly, have you seen Nickelbabes babe? I have not yet made it to nickelbabeland Angry they have me working too hard or she is closed

GoingForGoalWeight · 24/01/2012 22:16

Laughs at how much freee advertising Greggs get on MN Grin. I never ever go to Greggs. Really thinking about it my Mother didn't approve like their junk food. Not somewhere I ever thought about going. Possibly the same kind of shop/food but I loved The Three Cooks or Firkins Grin.

missmiss · 24/01/2012 22:23

Waitrose do the best mixed seafood antipasti.

BrainLikeASieve · 24/01/2012 22:33

Newish one??? Where? I know the Aldi you mentioned but thought I was stuck with that & pikey pikey spazda.
Have they gone and snuck in a waitrose while I wasn't looking?

You have my express permission to go postal in any part of north Kent... For the good of the nation.

dementedma · 24/01/2012 22:35

never been in a Waitrose
Sainsbury's seemed overpriced posh to me!

seeker · 24/01/2012 22:46

New Waitrose in the big city with the Archbishop. No, not been to see the bookshop baby yet- feeling a bit shy about doing it- bizarre. Must gird loins and go. Maybe next week. Love thwt Aldi- did you see the vanilla scented socks? Managed to restrain myself- just.

OP posts:
BrainLikeASieve · 24/01/2012 23:05

What's that? Socks with a hint of vanilla?
I don't think we need waitrose afterall

SlightlyJaded · 24/01/2012 23:18

Whilst I LOVE Waitrose and feel that in the arena of Supermarkets, it is my spiritual home, my particular Waitrose is another one of the 'Live today! Super Parenting in Loud Voices' branches.

The clientele is split about 60% skinny-organic-yummy-no chocolate sprinkles-mummies, 20% over 60's with elegant grey chignon, coral nail polish and no patience
with my magazine grabbing, toy ripping, sweet begging children and 20% trendy bespectacled, ex ad-agency/city, progressive dads who are keen for you to see that their trolley is piled high with kale, quinoa and other things I don't know how to cook.

I always go round backwards and do fruit and veg last so that anyone trolley-auditing will see bags of spinach, nets of kiwi and perhaps the odd 'drizzle of olive oil' which are all artfully arranged to hide the coco pops and chicken Kiev.

But it still makes me happy. For 40 minutes I get to pretend I am carefree and frivolous Grin

My nearest Waitrose is on the edge of a dodgy estate, right next to a huge Asda. Last week there was only one other customer in there. Yesterday there were two.

I love it as there are never any children in there at all, its just a little piece of calm. And the fresh cakes are always reduced to 10p in the evenings as hardly anyone ever goes in there :)

springydaffs · 25/01/2012 02:18

aha, that'll be closing soon then. I've got a 'gun' which I use to tot up my pur-chases and pay for it all by my own. They check your trolley every so often - but I'm not a stealer, me.

and never in all my life have I had any experience of a fellow customer being rude to me in Waitrose, though I hear countless stories of it from other people

Pennybubbly · 25/01/2012 02:48

Seeker - Did they spell 'cappuchino' as such on the menu? If they did, point it out to them that the spelling is wrong. That'll bring 'em down a notch or two.

If they didn't, as you were.
(am not trying to start a spelling war)

seeker · 25/01/2012 08:51

No, Penny- that was me. I was so traumatised by the sea of beige my spelling went funny....

OP posts:
Pennybubbly · 25/01/2012 09:41

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. By sea of beige, I take it you mean they were serving the cappuccinos in vessels?

coraltoes · 25/01/2012 09:45

My usual waitrose is canary wharf. It's all bottles of wine and nail polish remover with the odd bag of salad. Makes me worry for their dressed leaves.

ProfessorFiggyMoriarty · 25/01/2012 09:54

Oh Yes, that one, haven't been there yet as go to the other newish one where international station is. Occasionally. Especially since I found that they ahve completely renovated the Sainsbury's there and it is like a haven for shoppers with everything Blush.

I didn't see the vanilla scented socks, but wtf - why would you want scented socks Grin ok I do get their point!

I too haven't been to the baby in the bookshop yet but will also gird my loinage...........its not even that its finding the time!

Brain there is one in north maidstone area but without the cafe

seeker · 25/01/2012 09:57

The Canterbury one really is the home of the living dead! Maybe Ashford's a bit livlier.

Wish I'd bought the scented socks now- maybe I'll go and see if they've got them still when we run out of cat food and coffee.

Our's in RAMMED. Tis the heart of the high street. Honest to god, I think people just pop in and waft around there smiling serenely when they can't face another hour sat in Caffe Nero.

Butkin · 25/01/2012 11:37

Our town only has a Waitrose (with cafe) or Marks and Spencer if you don't want to drive. At least you can do a full shop at Waitrose and DD likes posting the little green buttons into her choice of charity box.

Bearcrumble · 25/01/2012 15:50

Have we all seen this? twitpic.com/8bhtxp

ilovemydogandMrObama · 25/01/2012 15:54

hmm, have to tell you the Waitrose class, and I do think that waitrose has its own social class, is invading, my local Aldi. Grin

The store manager is getting all grumpy about people coming in with Waitrose bags and taking all the 'loss leaders...'

newrose · 25/01/2012 16:39

Whoa, your Waitrose has a cafe???

I didn't know that was even possible!

wahwahwah · 25/01/2012 16:40

One of ours has one.

TheVermiciousKnid · 25/01/2012 16:46

I have not yet recovered from finding out (on this thread) that there are Waitroses without a cafe! [bshock]

SlightlyJaded · 25/01/2012 17:20

I am Envy of people who's Waitrose has a cafe.

stealthsquiggle · 25/01/2012 19:05

"the Waitrose class" evidently subdivides into "upper waitrose class" (with cafe) and "lower waitrose class" (the rest of us)

LOL at Aldi mgr complaining about people having the audacity to buy stuff and the brains to only buy the bargain stuff.
