to think that nearly 200 people being killed in Nigeria should be more newsworthy

What happened in Kano over the weekend is not even on the front pages of the so called international news websites like the BBC. I've had to search for any reporting on it.

Can you imagine if such a thing had happened to people in a rich country?

I think it's really sad that Africans dying isn't considered newsworthy. Are we really that racist?

OP posts:
OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 23/01/2012 23:29

Fuck me sideways.

Now I am repulsive.

You are really go for it tonight arnt you Fog.

And I am the one who is really angry and chippy?

Ha ha
HAH.

foglike · 23/01/2012 23:31

You are calling someone a racist yet you are going on about colour.

The peanut gallery are annoyed at someone who identified as working class yet you scream racist and that's fine...I call that hypocritical and crass.

Unhinged??

Don't talk bollox and stop ranting pojecting what you are onto other peope.

mojitomania · 23/01/2012 23:31

People are killing each other everywhere at the moment Sad in far more numbers what ever denomination. What can one tiny Island do about it all? People killing their own race is very disturbing, how can you stop it?

foglike · 23/01/2012 23:31

Amber thinks the thread was about holding hands and helping your fellow man.

roundtable · 23/01/2012 23:32

Actually, the OP asked a question about whether the cause of the lack of coverage was due to racism. Not that it definately was.

Other posters who don't think it was have been able to give reasons why without harping on about immigration or because all Nigerians are scammers or because these countries are at it all the time.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 23/01/2012 23:32

I havent screamed racist at anyone.
What is a peanut gallery?
Why do you think I am racist.

Do you need a lie down?

mojitomania · 23/01/2012 23:33

at fog.

foglike · 23/01/2012 23:34

Have you read the BBC Africa page roundtable?

You would be surprised to find out that they are as fucked up as we are.

Because someone has an opinion based on anecdotal evidence where they live it doesn't make them a racist.

TheFallenMadonna · 23/01/2012 23:34

It was to wonder why - and to question whether racism may play a part.

It seems to have become a "rivers of blood" style attack on non-white Britons and Eastern Europeans, with a diversion via Malta into class warfare.

And some mighty nasty comments to MrsDV, that I've reported.

mojitomania · 23/01/2012 23:34

Roundtable, things progress digress on threads, you should know that Grin

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 23/01/2012 23:34

But, but, but
I identified as working class and no-one apart from you got annoyed.

wannaBe · 23/01/2012 23:36

EB but in much of Africa, violence is a way of life.

Nobody's saying we should accept that's how it is, but as things currently stand, that's how it is.

And when you see reports of violence in Africa on the news with the report that x hundred people have been killed then in truth, it's not unusual. Horrific? absolutely, unfair? definitely, but it doesn't change the facts.

And the problem is that while in this particular instance the attack has been much more orchestrated with a specific agenda that for once isn't tribal, the fact that warfare and violence in Africa is so prevalent has desensitised a lot of people to the fact that yet more people have been killed in an African country. People see "people dead" and "Africa" and think "oh, another one."

It's incredibly sad that that's how it is, but we're talking decades here not months or years...

mojitomania · 23/01/2012 23:36

Not sure about rivers of blood here, it certainly turned into a probable house of commons debate Grin

foglike · 23/01/2012 23:37

If posters go through this thread they will find you pinting a finger or two mrsdevere.

The odd "Twat" thrown in for good measure just to boot.

Then you had the audacity to blame another poster because your children are "Brown" your words not mine.

Your childrens colour should never be an issue it's you who made it an issue and it's obviously an issue to you.

As I said previously I don't give a toss about your situation and you obviously have a problem with it.

MMMarmite · 23/01/2012 23:37

"You are calling someone a racist yet you are going on about colour." So you think we should spend a whole thread talking about racism without ever mentioning colour? That's bizarre.

And accusing someone of being racist if they are expressing racist opinions is logical. Calling someone repulsive is just Angry. Sorry you have to deal with this, MrsDeVere.

mojitomania · 23/01/2012 23:38

bows to Wannabe, whom has brought much sense to the end of this thead.

mojitomania · 23/01/2012 23:39

thread

foglike · 23/01/2012 23:39

I'd be interested to know what posts of mine have been offensive Madonna?

But your post was cringe worthy and as false as an MP's second house claim.

mojitomania · 23/01/2012 23:41

oh and I will bow out now. Having "ranted" my piece.

As for fog and Devere, maybe they should get hitched Grin

foglike · 23/01/2012 23:42

So let's get this right?

One poster calls another poster a racist and a twat and some other posters get offended that other posters think the poster calling someone a racist and a twat is indeed a twat herself?

You couldn't buy this.

mojitomania · 23/01/2012 23:43

Is madonna going to pit devere at the post? Grin

foglike · 23/01/2012 23:43

I'm already married to my working class roots and a Presbyterian lifestyle :)

TheFallenMadonna · 23/01/2012 23:44

Your posts to MrsDV have been bizarrely offensive. You have aimed most of your vitriol at her, although many have disagreed with you. It is unpleasant to read.

mojitomania · 23/01/2012 23:44

Good for you Fog Wink

caramelwaffle · 23/01/2012 23:45

The overriding point about the bombing is this; it was an act of religious war: part of a concerted campaign strategy.

The Madrid train bombings. London bombings. Nigeria. India. Any, and all ethnicities - murdered.

A certain level of media greyout is to be expected.

I'm sure, certainly that a few people would shit a brick at some of the hush, hush training I have had at work because of this very kind of world issue esp. regarding the upcoming Olympics.
