Do the posters who say 'Gavel' or 'End of.' realise they sound like morons?

Have you ever seen a thread end just after someone has written 'Gavel' or 'End of.'?

I realise some people do it ironically, but many don't.

EnjoyResponsibly · 18/01/2012 09:27

It's funny innit

MoreBeta · 18/01/2012 09:28

My personal favourite at the end of a post is:

Grin
FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 18/01/2012 09:28

Yes, and people who flippin' italic everything, for effect. They need shooting too......

And people who do this..............

BelfastBloke · 18/01/2012 09:30

I want to know if QS still thinks a gavel is a ceremonial mullet?

OP posts:
BeaOnSea · 18/01/2012 09:30

I like the gavel but it should be . "Gavel" on it's own makes no sense to me. It's like putting "ruler" or "door".

I hate the term "end of" on the net and especially in real life. It is so RUDE.

I went a while thinking HTH meant "heart to heart". No wonder none of the threads made any sense to me Blush

ChitChatInChaos · 18/01/2012 09:31

I don't use it, but I find it hilarious! Grin

Some people have a complete sense of humour failure.

ReindeerBollocks · 18/01/2012 09:31

As Psammed said, Courts in England have never used gavel.

Only auctioneers do.

ReindeerBollocks · 18/01/2012 09:32

Damn I missed out an 'a'

post · 18/01/2012 09:33

I really don't like the word moron. Never felt moved to start a thread about it, though.

Psammead · 18/01/2012 09:33

Ah, someone read my post.

BelfastBloke · 18/01/2012 09:34

So most of you think is almost always used as a joke?

That hasn't been my impression, although clearly sometimes it is.

OP posts:
FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 18/01/2012 09:34

And people who say those who hate have a sense of humour failure.

I could say "Right back atcha". But I hate that too....

SomekindofSpanish · 18/01/2012 09:37

I like .

If I remember correctly, it is a Codism. She is/was a magistrate and started using it at the end of her posts sometimes.

redrubyshoes · 18/01/2012 09:38

What about?

Now that is final.

hackmum · 18/01/2012 09:41

"End of" is really irritating. But so is "Get over it" and "get a life". Or "get real". They seem to be ways of closing an argument without saying anything remotely useful.

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 18/01/2012 09:41

YES!

I like it.

TheVermiciousKnid · 18/01/2012 09:42

SarahStratton IDGAS

Grin I like IDGAS. It should be used far more often.

Surely is always used ironically? I don't think I've ever seen it used in a serious way. 'End of' makes me a little bit twitchy because it's just so ... so ... grammatically incorrect. To be honest though, IDGAS really.

BackToBligg · 18/01/2012 09:45

T'is, t'was, methinks and using faux french. Very annoying but possibly funny if used ironically.

hairypotter · 18/01/2012 09:46

I like Grin

End of is chavvy if you ask me even though no one had

HellonHeels · 18/01/2012 09:46

I love It's funny!

End of.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 18/01/2012 09:50

I spent ages thinking LOL was 'lots of love'.

Nowt wrong with

BelfastBloke · 18/01/2012 09:54

WtWWW, I heard of someone who also thought LOL was lots of love.

They sent a text to someone saying 'Sorry to hear about the death of your father. LOL'.

OP posts:
fullofregrets · 18/01/2012 09:54

I don't mind but like a previous poster I absolutely hate 'methinks.'

I don't see it much on here actually but anyone who puts it on their fb status I immediately have to hide so that I can't see it.
Stuff like 'it's going to rain today methinks.' as a fb status makes me think, twat!

fullofregrets · 18/01/2012 09:55

Belfast LOL!

(I also hate lol but that did actually make me lol.)

mrsjay · 18/01/2012 09:56

I dont know what gavel means and ditto NAICE just because it is said in a jokey manner doesnt make it less annoying and snooty .
