In the last few weeks, it seems nearly everyone I have spoken to has uttered the words 'ooh you must be getting impatient' to me. DC is due tomorrow, of course I'm getting bloody impatient! It's coming from people who have had children as well and know that I am of course fed up and getting a tad impatient. So AIBU or just stupidly hormonal?

YANBU, and you are hormal too so it must be doubly annoying.

Good luck with the impending new arrival!

SecretMinceRinser · 17/01/2012 21:00

I always found 'have you had it yet?' when you clearly have a 9 month bump more annoying but each to their own!

fedupofnamechanging · 17/01/2012 21:00

My favourite is 'Was it planned?' On what planet is it acceptable to ask someone something that personal?

GirlWithPointyShoes · 17/01/2012 21:02

My mums friend once asked me "Do you know that your vagina will never be the same again?"

Ofcouse I bloody do, Stop reminding me you old hag.

Scaredycat3000 · 17/01/2012 21:03

And after you give birth people will start asking, Are they sleeping though yet? Of course they're not they're only X days/weeks old but I wish they would. Then later if/when you're planning to have another, because I want to discuss my sex life with you!
Parenting seems to come with crap questions from other parents who should know better.

Abirdinthehand · 17/01/2012 21:04

Do you know what you're having? Is my favourite...

Ummm, yes. It's a baby.

Angel786 · 17/01/2012 21:04

Oh karma I've had that and it drives me NUTS! I've already decided if my completely inappropriate boss asks me that I'll say: oh did you give your bf a bj last night? Sorry was that inappropriate, I thought you were comfortable discussing our sex lives?!

picnicbasketcase · 17/01/2012 21:05

When pg with DC2, I had 'You're HUGE! Are you sure you've not got a whole litter in there?'

Wanted to say 'Fuck off. I know my bump is big but I think someone would have told me of there was more than one baby in there'.

ElderberrySyrup · 17/01/2012 21:05

I always found 'You know it'll change your life?' annoying.
Oh will it really, I didn't realise it would make any difference at all.

PutThatCatOutNow · 17/01/2012 21:05

'Have you had it yet?'
Who in their right mind would ask that Confused

OP posts:
Proudnscary · 17/01/2012 21:05

Secretmincerinser - no, it is far, far more annoying when you've had the baby and people looking at your mountainous wobbly belly and saying 'Haven't you had it yet?'

TandB · 17/01/2012 21:08

My very lovely (but sometimes a little random) FIL always defaults to repeatedly enquiring after my health when he can't think of anything to say. In the last days of pregnancy/first days postpartum I seriously considered telling him about my health in all its technicolour detail after the third time of asking. Grin

SkivingAgain · 17/01/2012 21:16

I ask some of these irritating questions when I'm trying pretending to show an interest in someone else's pregnancy. Some posters sound very churlish and self absorbed, the pregnant equivalent of bridezillas. Hmm

GirlWithPointyShoes · 17/01/2012 21:16

"Oh yes DFIL! Sept my stitches are killing me, I haven't pooped in 3 days and I feel like someone shoved a cricket ball up my arse. Yourself?"

upatdawn · 17/01/2012 21:18

The worst one I've been faced with is 'aren't you a bit old to be having another DC?'

squeakytoy · 17/01/2012 21:18

YABU... what do you expect people to say? Confused

If they didnt mention it you would wonder why they were ignoring you. Grin

bobbledunk · 17/01/2012 21:21

'Your definitely having twins, they don't always show up on the scan but my friend...'

'You're massive, I'm amazed you can walk without toppling over!..are you sure it's not twins?'

'Wow, you're so big, your bumps enormous but you've gained weight everywhere, I wouldn't like to gain weight everywhere when I'm pregnant...'

'You know, you should go on a diet now and walk for a couple of hours a day, then you can be back to your normal weight by the time you have the baby, wouldn't it be nice to leave hospital wearing in a size eight?'

'Stop gaining weight right now (at 5 months), it will be too difficult to lose when the baby is born, that's assuming there's only one in there. Are you sure?'

Grin
troisgarcons · 17/01/2012 21:26

No.

"what is it?" has to rank the most stupid question.

Obviously it's a kitten/puppy

nope .... no no no the most stupid question is:

"what do you want?"

A new fitted kitchen was my usual answer.

Auntiestablishment · 17/01/2012 21:27

I agree with squeakytoy really - what are people supposed to say?

Not saying you're unreasonable but some ideas for non-annoying conversational gambits from caring friends would be really great! Confused

theidsalright · 17/01/2012 21:27

yes, up there with "my you are looking SWELL" and "you've bloomed haven't you"

Angry

good luck with your baby!

zest01 · 17/01/2012 21:28

I think yab a bit u but hormonal so it's ok! :-)

People are just showing an interest and I have been guilty of those admittdely inane comments on occasion, even though we have 5 DC's and I KNOW it's a bit annoying. It's just making conversation, but some comments are worse than others such as "OMG you're HUGE" - that's just rude!

troisgarcons · 17/01/2012 21:30

"when's it due?"

Wednesday at 10am ...... ECS .... I have no idea why people thought I was being sarcastic Grin

TandB · 17/01/2012 21:32

pointyshoes - something along those lines!

Cherriesarelovely · 17/01/2012 21:34

IMHO everything people say is annoying at that stage of pregnancy, "you look so big", "you look so small", "are you still pregnant?" "you have no idea what it's like....it's like a prison" etc etc!

pictish · 17/01/2012 21:34

Also agree with squeakytoy - don't be so hostile! People only want to acknowledge you!
