You know when someone says 'name changed but not a troll - missing toaster, poo troll etc'. It doesn't really prove anything, does it? Any lurkers could read all that and still be a troll of some sort, no?

The former, Honeydragon. For example, they might have an awful lot of circumstantial evidence that the person has done something very horrid indeed, but no cast iron proof, and if they are a well-liked regular there will be uproar. So they go down on a lesser technicality instead, as it were, for which there IS proof and therefore the guvnors don't need to quell a shitstorm. The fact is the guvnors probably overlook other people doing the technically wrong thing quite often, or at least they don't always ban for it.

I know of one popular long term poster that is not what she seems too!

I'm pretty sure it's the exact same poster TSC is taling about aswell!

The three other parenting forums I have dipped a toe into have all had similarish trolls to here - illness/mental health/pregnancy related trolling. Including someone masquerading as an American mum to quads

You would not believe what it's like out there, GetOrf. Like I said, when I modded one place, a particular issue was taken up by police. It turned from a flame war to real life harassment. Four friends who met online, had exchanged addresses etc and then fell out. It was horrible. Proxy after proxy, sockpuppet after sockpuppet. Unbelievable. I have seen similar on most forums, but not on the same scale.

Everlong - yes, agree re:drama out of nowhere. also the regular ratcheting up of tension, with a new "crisis".

Analogy: you have a horrid feeling that your new babysitter has stolen money from you, all sorts of coincidences point to it, but you can't sack her on those grounds without SOLID proof, or her mum and dad will be shrieking about slander on your doorstep. Therefore as you have a niece who is begging you to babysit, you make a big deal to the thieving one that family comes first, so you unfortunately can't use her again. Even though in reality you could easily tell your niece 'tough shit'.
