To think that quoting past threads/quiches on MN does not prove you aren't a troll?

You know when someone says 'name changed but not a troll - missing toaster, poo troll etc'. It doesn't really prove anything, does it? Any lurkers could read all that and still be a troll of some sort, no?

Am bored, can you tell? Grin

OP posts:
mothmagnet · 17/01/2012 16:58

I am trying to draw an elaborate analogy between Neighbours characters being played by different actors v sockpuppets and am failing miserably.

I am annoyed by posters (I'm sure there's one around at the moment) who pretty blatantly make stuff up and am equally heartened when they're biscuited by people braver than me.

Long OPs, cheerful in the midst of a crisis etc. and when the attention wanes, a benefit thread thrown in to get everyone going Hmm The post aren't heart rending, but just irritating when other posters take the effort to reply.

I could of course be barking up the wrong tree Smile There are plenty of true and shocking things posted here all the time.

keSnowBi · 17/01/2012 16:59

my PM box reads like postcards from the Circus of the Damned
LeQueen, you are really spoiling me with that delicious turn of phrase.

I know someone who mods for MN and her name is not the name of any of the mods who post. Which suggests that even MN are not revealing their true identities.

Dum dum DAAA dum!

I have never really posted on any forums before this one so it has been a real eye opener about people's weird proclivities and lies.

Did anyone else notice that Gabby came back under a different name? I mean, why? Most distinctive posting style of all time...

wannaBe · 17/01/2012 16:59

I saw the ibu one this morning and thought Hmm

other threads that make me Hmm are when a poster gets a lot of support on a thread, the thread runs to its conclusion and then they start themselves a new thread...

PlaneJaneSuperBrains · 17/01/2012 16:59

There is no other real Brain Mary - I was the original Brain here. I used to be BrainSurgeon remember?

Now - confess - who stole my new nickname before I even got round to namechanging? PlaneJaneSuperBrain is not available!!! so I had to settle for this!!! Angry

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 17/01/2012 17:01

Yes wannBe, I agree with you there.

keSnowBi · 17/01/2012 17:02

God I got totally sucked into that one ladybeagle, in a popcorn eating, non posting kind of way. Had no idea it was fake.

Clearly my bullshit detector is dreadful.

I some times read threads that go on and on with people giving advice and support where the op just screams personality disorder to me and seems quite unwell, maybe I've spent too much time around pd, it worrys me as it's not allways helpful when someone's unwell to have posters saying they sound fine and everyone around them are unreasonable

TheVermiciousKnid · 17/01/2012 17:02

Shouldn't it be PlainJaneSuperBrain anyway?

TandB · 17/01/2012 17:02

Baby is here, Shirley.

Rockstock - should be up in town beginning of Feb onwards on Mondays if you are around....

keSnowBi · 17/01/2012 17:04

This has nothing to do with anything, but should I have got rid of my Christmas identity by now? Have I incurred years of bad luck by going past twelfth night or sommat?

TandB · 17/01/2012 17:07

I used to be on another forum. Too embarrassed to identify it Blush - think Netmums after an extra pink and shiny makeover.

There were about two major troll-unmaskings every week - always child illness or bereavement related. And no-one was allowed to express even a modicum of doubt, no matter how far-fetched the story, until the mods came on and did the dramatic reveal.

There was one where the mods contacted the troll's employers as she was posting from her workplace - wonder how that went down!

ariadneoliver · 17/01/2012 17:07

Get Orf pick any one of these Grin

sunshineoutdoors · 17/01/2012 17:09

I'm now paranoid there's only 5 of you in total, 5 posters changing names and pretending to be hundreds of people. Or maybe there is no mumsnet, just one person in a room writing all of these conversations...

BrianSurgeon · 17/01/2012 17:13

Mwahahahhahah Sunshine you are closer to the truth than you really ought to be....

FellatioNelsonsDog · 17/01/2012 17:15

Moomins there was a very contentious thread a while back by someone exactly like that, and I called them on it (in a nice way, compassionate and diplomatic I was - honest) and got hounded by the Stately Homes lot who said how dare I not believe someone who was suffering at the hands of toxic gaslighting inlaws, how dare I turn it all back onto her and question her perception of what was happening , blah blah. The woman was possibly NPD or just plain paranoid from where I was standing, but no, we must all support her and believe her wholeheartedly. Hmm It gets a bit frustrating at times.

MardyBra · 17/01/2012 17:16

Brian
It was me and talc that did the anagrams.

Here are the suggestions for GetOrf

Marigold Often - another early 60s porn star famed for her ability to 'perform' several times in one afternoon

Mel Tornado-Fig - star of 80s blockbusters Honey, I Nuked The Kids and Rocky XXll - Rocky Gets A Brain Scan

Rita Mog-Fondle - a regular in the Harry Frotter porn spin-offs

MardyBra · 17/01/2012 17:18

I have a theory that MNHQ have sockpuppet alter-egos. When things are looking a little quiet of an afternoon, they might be tempted to start a good troll thread.

Who, ruby? C'mon!

BIWI · 17/01/2012 17:21

I am clearly a bear of little brain Bear as I have no clue who is or isn't trolling or sock puppeting on here.

Which regulars are you all suspicious of? And how do you know?!

I have spotted some before, but it's usually the ones who start with a very dramatic story that unfolds unfeasibly quickly.

Please PM me and put me out of my misery, someone!

Smile
BrianSurgeon · 17/01/2012 17:22

Ruby are you talking to me? [godfather voice]

MardyBra · 17/01/2012 17:22

Am very impressed by those of you who can actually spot the trolls. Feel free to light up my Inbox with any juicy gossip.

CrunchyFrog · 17/01/2012 17:24

I was on one spin off forum (not from here, from Bounty) where a woman had 2 identities - completely plausible, no huge drama in particular, just two user accounts with two entirely different lives. But she caused a lot of trouble and a lot of upset (yy, words on a screen etc.)

She was and is entirely mental though. Got banned from Bounty about 43284738294783924 times, and kept coming back!

Reasonably sure she's on here now.

TheVermiciousKnid · 17/01/2012 17:26

Hmm, maybe all the trolls on all forums are actually just one and the same troll? I picture a real troll sitting under a large bridge (maybe the Humber Bridge?) frantically typing on a giant lap top, cackling manically. Next to a huge pile of goat bones of course.
