To be obsessed with stationary and notebooks of any kind?

SHThread · 12/01/2012 22:58

Am I weird in this way?

I buy looooads of notebooks. I sometimes don't even use them! I love pens, pencils. Get protective over any pen I own and try not to let DS steal it! I love diaries!!

Anyone else?

It is normal to obsess over stationery. Perfectly normal.

EauDeLaPoisson · 12/01/2012 23:01

YANBU- my seven year old DD is the same she loves all manner of stationary and dreams of working in staples....

IneedAbetterNicknameIn2012 · 12/01/2012 23:01

Well if you ABU then so am I!

RevoltingPeasant · 12/01/2012 23:02

YANBU, I go through stages where I like expensive fountain pens and the way they make my handwriting look and stages like now, where I only want to write with Bic pens and watch the level of ink go down in the plastic tube.

Blush

I can't believe I actually admitted that in public. I am a fun and interesting person, honest.

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll · 12/01/2012 23:03

YANBU! I love stationary.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/01/2012 23:05

Absolutely fine and normal OP... I obssess over it too, plan it, covet it, buy it, store it all away waiting for some life-changing stories to take over my thoughts... and then I buy some more to add to my unblemished, unwritten-in, stash. Blush

Bogeyface · 12/01/2012 23:05

Oh no, NBU at all.

Nothing is more seductive to me than a fresh new pad. Black and red A4 hardbacks are my personal favourite, and yet they seem cheap and sullied once they have been written in. I only want virgin pads :o

I have a thing about gel pens, I have one make that I like and one make only. I get ridiculously stroppy and pissed off if I have to write with anything else. Oh, except pencils, I love my handwriting written by a pencil :o

Bakelitebelle · 12/01/2012 23:09

Me too. Had an orgasm in Staples yesterday (not literally)

SHThread · 12/01/2012 23:09

I watch the level of ink thing too Revolting!

When I met DP I told him about this obsession. He bought me a pretty journal :o

Perfectly normal behaviour, me and my best friend could shop all day in stationary shops !!!

Mrsfromwales · 12/01/2012 23:12

Omg I swear I could have written this, OP! I must have the exact same thoughts and feelings as you!
I treated myself to a lovely fancy leather 2012 diary this year and its so beautiful I can hardly bear to write in it in case I spoil it!
...oh and I currently have a stack of 7, yes 7 unused notebooks by the side of my bed, along with a pack of pens, pack of pencils and post it notes. Its a major decision which book I will start next! X

If we are going to admit to this obsession, will it cause outrage if I point out it's stationEry in this case as stationAry means not moving?

hellhasnofury · 12/01/2012 23:13

I'm just grateful that most of the shops I enter are stationary.

Abirdinthehand · 12/01/2012 23:14

Oh, it's an obsession I totally share. Paper chase sends me to heaven.

SHThread · 12/01/2012 23:15

Blush Katisha - thanks!

doh!

Marymaryalittlecontrary · 12/01/2012 23:17

It used to be my favourite day of the summer holidays when my mum would take me out to buy new stationery for the new school year. I had to start the school year with a brand new, freshly stocked pencil case!

SamMiguel · 12/01/2012 23:18

I am sooooo sorry, I am not usual a pedant but I came across this the other day and was given a tip. It is stationEry not stationAry - think of the E as representing the word envelope (ie. a type of stationery). As for your obsession, I totally understand, my house is full of half empty or even completely empty notebooks and other lovely papers and pens etc. DH is never impressed when he sees a Paperchase bag!

SamMiguel · 12/01/2012 23:19

oops. Cross post with Katisha Blush

shesparkles · 12/01/2012 23:19

YANBU!!! It's my dirty secret! Love stationery of any kind, but pens are my speciality. It's clearly genetic as my dad's exactly the same!Grin

Katisha · 12/01/2012 23:20

I think it's partly to do with all the lovely things you could write.

Of course you never do.

If you actually started writing in one of the lovely fresh notebooks it would muck it up.

SHThread · 12/01/2012 23:23

Exactly Katisha! The potential! :o

I loved the first day of primary school, having my drawer full of brand new exercise books. I used to fantasise about breaking into the stationery cupboard at school!

Onesunnymorningin2012 · 12/01/2012 23:24

YANBU at all. Not a tiny bit.
