To steal from the church toddler group?

DemBabies · 10/01/2012 14:06

we're 2 days away from pay day and literally have no money. We are ok for food, nappies etc but we ran out of toilet roll today and so when I went to the church toddler group this morning I stole one from their loo Blush I now feel really really bad about it. Not only did I steal but from the church!!

jesus would say "go in peace and clean thine arse with hallowed bog roll. and stop judging OP, ye harpy mumsnetters"

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 10/01/2012 19:12

happy you are being well over the top.

Life isnt that simple.

stephrick · 10/01/2012 19:16

I know it sounds silly but I've done the same, a pound for food or loo roll, not good situation to be in, I replaced so you must. It makes you feel low though.

SecretMinceRinser · 10/01/2012 19:17

I don't really consider it stealing. I would put it in the same category as taking the miniature bottle of shampoo from a hotel. It's there for you to use - not strictly speaking at home but it's not rationed. I've taken a big wodge from the likes of Tesco before now when I've had a cold and forgotten to take tissues out with me and not felt bad about it at all.
People do get hot under the collar about these things.
The first thing I thought when I read your post was Sad that you were in the position that you couldn't afford loo roll.
For future reference though did you have baby wipes/tissues? They have saved me in emergency loo roll situations before now.

Molehillmountain · 10/01/2012 19:17

I definitely think its okay. If you replace it next week, no one's the wiser and you saved yourself having to explain. Some people on here may well have no idea what it's like to have finances that come so close to the brink.

hohohoshedittant · 10/01/2012 19:19

If you took it with the intention of replacing next week then surely that's borrowing (without permission) rather than stealing?

I also like the idea of not using the playgroup toilets for the next six months and repay what you took that way. Or add up all the times you haven't used the loos and maybe they owe you a toilet roll!

I think my morals must be askew because I'm struggling to be even remotely outraged by your 'theft' op.

SecretMinceRinser · 10/01/2012 19:20

And yes in an ideal world op you should have asked but I would imagine that would be VERY embarrassing. And for the sake of a loo roll not the end of the world imo.

TheAvocadoOfWisdom · 10/01/2012 19:20

Poor you OP. I think you should have asked someone but I can see why you wouldn't want to. If someone realised you nicked a bog roll, you'd be more mortified than if you'd asked them for it. I hope things get better for you soon.

SecretMinceRinser · 10/01/2012 19:21

hohoho maybe she could invite the person who runs the group round when she's got the shits to have a good go on her loo roll?

להחזיק אישה נחמדה שנייה, אני קסם לך חבילת גודל המשפחה כמו שעשיתי עם הלחם והדגים

(This is what Jesus would have said)

How long is that single filched roll of bog roll gonna last? (Or am I the only one asking, and thinking OP will need to filch another one pretty darn soon, can't possibly last until end of the week/month/whatever).

Maybe we should have a stash of loo roll to have handy for all MNers to grab from when they have run out of money or forgotten to get some while shopping. You just replace when you next have a spare one.
Only problem is, how would you down load it? BT had better get its thinking cap on
Do have a look at the Trussel Trust web site all of you who have compassion on the OP, they do a wonderful job of helping those who need emergency help. You can donate your unneeded BOGOF items. They have centres all over the country.
And for those who think bad financial management, it's tough when you have had an unexpected expense and you run out of cash with days to go till more money goes in. Many people are in that situation, again, look at the figures on the Trussell Trust web site!

BleurghUna · 10/01/2012 20:13

It's probably too late now for this month, but is there a foodbank in your area? See www.trusselltrust.org/foodbank-projects Or google foodbank + your town name.
Then next month if you can get some food for free then maybe you will have enough left over for other essentials?
I think borrowing stuff without asking should be the last resort - and probably was in your situation. Some people would do it without any qualms and you sound like a decent person because you felt so bad about it. I used to help at a toddler group and would definitely have given you a loo roll if you had asked, providing there were enough to spare. I would have been a bit miffed if the loo roll had suddenly disappeared though, as other people would be left without any.
Hope things get better for you soon!

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 10/01/2012 20:16

A loo roll lasts a day in my house. They eats it I tells you.
