we're 2 days away from pay day and literally have no money. We are ok for food, nappies etc but we ran out of toilet roll today and so when I went to the church toddler group this morning I stole one from their loo Blush I now feel really really bad about it. Not only did I steal but from the church!!

PinkAndPurplePirateGirl I work full time and there have been times that I have had nothing - absolutely nothing to last me for days. Toilet roll is certainly more expensive than 50p in my local shop - and I wouldnt have the bus far to go to the nearest Tesco. Its irrelevant anyway, it could cost a penny but if you have no money - you have no money! And its certainly not got anything to do with managing finances, it only goes so far.

lipole · 10/01/2012 16:38

YABU and you know it. They let you defer payment but you still took further advantage of them. Its despicable really

Angelswings · 10/01/2012 16:39

Mrs M that's a great idea thank you

lipole Feel good up there on your high horse?

OP, I hope things get better soon, we would all be too mortified to ask for a toilet roll, take one back next week and dont feel guilty, like others said, nobody at the church would judge you, they`d just want to help, if you ask

lipole · 10/01/2012 16:51

I'm on my high horse because I don't condone stealing under any circumstances Hmm

kelly2525 · 10/01/2012 16:54

But kicking someone so down on their luck they cant afford toilet roll is fine?

She has already said she will take two back next week.

What a lovely, understanding supportive person you must be.

Northernlurker · 10/01/2012 16:54

OP - I've been involved in my toddler group at church. If you'd asked I know we would give you loo roll and a lift home and a shoulder to cry on. That's what it's all about really - holding out a hand to others and pulling them up.
Not to say stealing is right, it isn't but you're going to put it back next week and you feel like crap. Enough said.

Northernlurker · 10/01/2012 16:55

Oh and lipole etc - give it a rest.

QuintessentiallyShallow · 10/01/2012 16:56

yus, and condoms, headex, and strepsils, paracetamol, non the less!

nickelhasababy · 10/01/2012 16:56

MrsMicawber - that is a lovely idea.
And even more, it could also be used for those people who have been helped in the past (or indeed just anyone who wants to help ) to put donations in, all useful items that they know it's embarrassing to have to ask for help for.

WeatherVane · 10/01/2012 16:59

There are some lovely people on this thread Smile and some who have obviously never been brassic and got into a spot of bother in their lives

FlangelinaBallerina · 10/01/2012 17:00

There are indeed. I can count at least three who should consider going and having sexual intercourse with themselves.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 10/01/2012 17:01

Nothernlurker, you are lovely.

Yes OP it probably would have been better if you had asked, but I don't blame you for having been to embarassed to have done so. Going by some of the posts on this thread poverty evidently is something people should be ashamed of.

I don't think anyone with any humanity should judge you. Bloody hell life is tough sometimes. You shouldn't have nicked it, no, but I will be damned if I would judge you.

I hope things pick up (financially) for you soon.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 10/01/2012 17:01

too embarrassed.

SparkleSoiree · 10/01/2012 17:03

Kelly is it really about being up on your high horse though, honestly? It is ok to sympathise with the OP's financial position and difficulties associated with that but to use that position as justification for taking something that ) does not belong to her, b) that she didn't pay for and c) without asking surely is wrong. Isn't that what we teach our children?

Aren't morals and standards what we base our life around?

Is there a situation where it is ok to steal and if so what is it? I am genuinely interested..

I run a church based mums and toddlers group (in the church hall) , I can honestly say nobody would mind you borrowing a loo roll, or missing a weeks payment for that matter.

We depend entirely on contributions, but we would rather somebody come and not pay than sit at home skint and miserable!

You borrowed a loo roll not stole the takings :)

Northernlurker · 10/01/2012 17:06

Sparkle - come on! She has no loo roll! The church has lots and she will return it. This is not a police matter. Hmm

toddlerama · 10/01/2012 17:06

You shouldn't have taken it, but if there is one place where they wont begrudge helping people with less, it is a church. Don't feel guilty - just replace it. And maybe remember this so when you are flush you can keep an eye out for someone you can help so they don't have to nick bog rolls.

kelly2525 · 10/01/2012 17:10

It was the use of the word despicable I didnt like Sparkle

Yes its wrong to steal, but despicable to steal a toilet roll? Maybe if she had stolen the cash box, but this is one toilet roll because she is too embarrassed to let her real life friends/family know she cant afford to buy some for a few days.

If my son had come home with a toilet roll in his bag and said he`d stolen it from wherever (impossible by the way, hes only 11m) then, would I tell him hes despicable? No, I wouldnt use that word.

HeadfirstForHalos · 10/01/2012 17:10

I think it's fine to borrow it without asking too, many would find it too embarrassing to ask. Nobody will notice the loo roll gone, and op is replacing it. Some posters need to find something worthy to get angry about :)

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 10/01/2012 17:13

gosh some people have zero compassion. hope the judgey pharisees on this thread aren't going round calling themselves christians in public.
