I know that this post may have some mixed reviews and may even get me slated but I can,t help it.
Someone I know although she is a genuine case her and her husband have as much as me and dh coming in and with a brand new car thrown in for good measure.
I can only dream of a new car and I work my tripe off 5 days a week as well as dh whilst some people can sit at home and get the same income coming in it seems really unfair.

OP posts:

Sevenfold · 08/01/2012 18:37

yeah so you want them to beg.

mrsmplus3 · 08/01/2012 18:37

some of you women on here are using this thread as an excuse to get really bitchy.

its a serious discussion and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

you should express it with facts and dignity - IMO :)

tethersend · 08/01/2012 18:37

You'd pay Stephen Hawking minimum wage?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/01/2012 18:38

iuse I think you have explained yourself with remarkable clarity, certainly in that last post.

Sevenfold · 08/01/2012 18:39

your right fanjo, kick the weakest seems to be mn sport now

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll · 08/01/2012 18:39

Sevenfold, where did I say that? Some of you are just being obtuse for the sake of it and because I have made myself an easy target by disagreeing. And not explaining myself properly.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/01/2012 18:39

mrsm- maybe people are slightly annoyed, perhaps

wubblybubbly · 08/01/2012 18:40

My MacMillan nurse told me that DLA was massively under claimed by cancer patients, as many couldn't face going through the process. That's the process as it was, before they decided to cut it by an arbitrary 20%.

That's the reality of how difficult it is to claim DLA.

akaemmafrost · 08/01/2012 18:41

Yeah sorry mrsmplus3 but disablist, ignorant arseholes have a way of bringing out the worst in me.

TheHumancatapult · 08/01/2012 18:41

Bangs head I use the DlA is for that exact same reason because being disabled costs more And past time I checked I knew better than anyone else what I wanted or need

Sevenfold · 08/01/2012 18:41

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll you have repeatedly said you want disabled people to ask for money for things like a cheap holiday.
that is begging
ok get it now

KalSkirata · 08/01/2012 18:42

The reason DLA was invented was to give disabled people control over money for their own needs. So they didnt have to ask.

SquallyRose · 08/01/2012 18:42

I am sick of benefit bashing ignorant nasty people and if you spent one week in the life of the average person that is on benefits maybe you'd get a small dose of what its actually like and shut the hell up.
We're on benefits, why? Because my DH (who, like me, worked for years just so we could afford a family and things we wanted) became very seriously ill after our second child was born. I went from being a hard working stay at home mum who also ran the administration side of our business to thinking I would be a widow with 2 small children, he recovered but the after effects of that illness have left him unable to work and in need of full time care.
Op tell me how you'd feel if you had to care for your OH? If the man you shared your life with and who was your equal suddenly became more work than your two small children together? My day starts at 6 and I'm rarely in bed before 12, I work my ass off and yes, we get help with rent and yes, we get DLA but I can assure you we struggle and we go without so many things because of our financial situation.
Would I like to work? Would I like, just once, to take a day off, put my kids in a nursery and just go for a manicure or have some time to myself? God yes, it would be heaven but I am a mum and a carer and those things don't leave time for much else and there will be many like me.
So OP, do me and the hundreds of other people like me a favour, look at your healthy, wage earning partner and thank God that you are not sat watching them waste away in front of you, try counting your blessings for once and then apologise for starting this horrridle thread and go do something useful

TheHumancatapult · 08/01/2012 18:42

Sevenfold I can kick back when kicked but sure can slap back Wink

expatinscotland · 08/01/2012 18:42

Okay, the fact is that DLA is a non-means tested benefit that is about £200/month. Some who are in receipt of it are children who cannot work because they are children. Others who receive it work. Still others apply for other, means-tested benefits such as housing benefit/LHA, council tax benefit, child tax credit, working tax credit, Jobseeker's Allowance, etc.

voddiekeepsmesane · 08/01/2012 18:42

Everytime I see one of these threads it tires and angers me at the same time.

Give DP his sight back to see his children growing, the sunrise the beautiful scenery or even what bloody colour his t-shirt is on any given day and we will gladly come off any benefits.

See I don't know why I even feel that I have to justify our existence but while there are people around thinking we a benefit scroungers then thats what I do. As another poster said I am tired so so tired of it all.

HowlingBitch · 08/01/2012 18:42

Or we could just give them the money they need and let them have some quality of life and independence. Most disabled people have to ask for help every single day for the simplest of things the least they deserve is a choice on what they spend their money on.

You don't want them to live Kitchen roll you just want them to exist.

Sevenfold · 08/01/2012 18:43

mrsmplus3 when people shit stir, make up stuff, say that disabled people should beg for any thing they need(ok ask, but same thing) I get angry, not bitchy angry.
bigots make me angry

PosieParker · 08/01/2012 18:43

I do think that people on disability should be given a decent standard of living....I think when people discuss the rights and wrongs of benefits disability is a completely different issue to unemployment benefit.

The minimum wage in this country should be more, way more, than one can receive in basic unemployment benefit, which should offer a lifeline not a living/lifestyle. People should be inventivised to work.

But if we want to blame a group for the state of this country, let's look at the tax evaders with their clever tax accountants.

Sevenfold....don't worry. I have broad shoulders!!

TheHumancatapult · 08/01/2012 18:44

Can't

I'm more fortunate than a lot as I can speak for myself , can argue back . Can file paperwork and appeal .

Many such as my ds3 can not do that and that's far worse than the grief I get because I can and will defend myself . Ds3 and many others rely on other people to do for them

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll · 08/01/2012 18:45

FFS, sevenfold, it's not begging at all. It would be applying to a fund that provides people with the stuff they need to have a decent quality of life. Thats all.

They would still have money to spend on what they wanted, it just wouldn't be more than full time NMW.

But as I'm not boss of the world, it's irrelevant.

LtEveDallas · 08/01/2012 18:45

I do wish that MNHQ would delete some of the horrible disablist and judgmental views like those of the OP rather than those that are justifiably angry.
