To say NO! to the backyard bungalow builder's latest application?

Got a letter from planning today.

Neigbours finally got round to applying for planning for the humoungous fence they put up in the summer.

It is there to stop us seeing what is going on in the gym house they builit in their small urban back garden.

The fence is ugly and very tall. It is attached to the fence that we already have which is the regulation height so its is totally unecessary (apart from to act as a screen).

I dont like it, it impinges on my garden and my neighbours have behaved like total bastards over the bungalow that they should never have built.

What do I say in response to the letter. Are any of my lovely planning people around to advise on the wording?

If people are not familiar with the bungalow saga they can see pics in my profile.

ah... "sustainable shit design"...

GeekLove · 19/01/2012 09:25

Have you got any manky old soft furnishings that could do with being on a bonfire? For obvious reasons you'd burn them at the bottom of the garden.
Just saying like...

Jins · 19/01/2012 10:11

MissM what on earth have they intended to build? I think a photo is almost certainly needed for my cpd records :)

Glad to hear your letter went off OK MrsD. I think it's important to put a personal touch in and that's the bit we can't do. Keep us informed :)

WelshMoth · 19/01/2012 11:32

That outlet pipe is on my mind...

That's surely not legal. is it? Shock

DublinMammy · 19/01/2012 13:48

Hi MrsDeVere, lovely kids (and wallpaper!). Really, really hope you succeed in getting this fence taken down. Your neighbours are total wankers. It's amazing to see all the help you have received here, people are so kind! Good luck, keep us posted.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 19/01/2012 13:57

This thread (and the others) always make me laugh.
I love the amount of swearing and evil suggestions Grin

Only trouble is I cant access my bungalow threads at work because they dont get through the filter!

HopeEternal · 19/01/2012 14:31

Is bungalow a dirty word then?

In normal circumstances, I mean. It certainly is in yours MrsDeVere.

ImpOfThePerverse · 19/01/2012 20:26

I just wanted to come and cheer on MrsDV and her planning team! I really hope you can get something done about the whole thing. I sat reading the original threads with a face like this: Shock, I still find it hard to believe that what they've done is even semi-legal.

Sorry if it's already been discussed and dismissed as an issue, but what is going on with the waste pipe? Is it still there?

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 20/01/2012 15:15

The pipe is there but they have shoved a plastic cover thingy on it.
I am convinced its too near the fence to be safe and I think the building regs did the measuring before they put the fence up.

It just doesnt look like it gives enough space for safe venting. Not nice for us but potentially lethal for anyone sleeping in there surely?

OP posts:
ImpOfThePerverse · 20/01/2012 23:54

If it's got a plastic cover is it more likely to be an extractor fan than a heating vent? Except you'd only really expect to find an extractor fan in a kitchen or bathroom, not so much in a gym. Hmm

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 21/01/2012 16:08

I know its got central heating because I saw them put the radiatiors in.
It could be the vent from the shower room or the kitchen though.

IvanaHumpalot · 21/01/2012 22:04

Long time lurker, first time caller...

Mrs DV, Imp - perhaps the mysterious vent is for an extraction fan, perhaps the bungalow is "really" a "gym" and the lights on at all hours is because the owner is deeply into keep fit and is very sweaty. Perhaps he's training for the next marathon, 3 peaks or charity swimathon. How about MN pop a sponsorship form through his door to encourage him. Perhaps, maybe...

Jokes aside Mrs DV - I do sympathise, I used to live next to a restaurant and had a running battle with my local council about smells, food prep in the garden and using said garden for an outside lavvie (just without the lavvie). I like a previous post about council tax - different council dept. different tactic.
My thoughts and sympathies are with you.

MissMarjoribanks · 13/02/2012 21:59

Any update MrsDV? Have they refused the bastard fence yet?

I was thinking of you as I attended Planning Committee last week about my 'installation' and it was refused unanimously, with the extra reason for refusal I suggested.

tallwivglasses · 13/02/2012 22:13

Ooh yes, MrsD...what's happening?

Piffpaffpoff · 27/02/2012 22:23

Ooh, there's a report about bungalows like this on the BBC 10pm news right now! Estimated 10,000 across London and the South East.

FiteFuaite · 27/02/2012 23:23

Piffpaffpoff,I saw that, too and thought of this thread!

How's it going,MrsD,have there been any developments?

Piffpaffpoff · 28/02/2012 08:19

DH was amazed by my in depth knowledge of the problem, and the difficulties involved in enforcing planning Grin.

StealthPenguin · 28/02/2012 09:57

Anything going on? We want to know what's happening! They need their comeuppance!

GrittersWifeAndProud · 28/02/2012 11:33

I was thinking about this thread earlier! Any news yet MrsDV?

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 11/03/2012 16:32

I just wondered if any of my planning angels are around....

You know that they put up the 'gym' which takes up all that space?

Are they now allowed to erect another outbuilding? Its one of those plastic shed but its quite big. I thought they could only cover half the garden.

The fence is still up BTW. I sent that most excellent letter but have yet to hear anything. I can confirm on this sunny sunday that it puts half my garden in shade though Sad

OP posts:
FilterCoffee · 11/03/2012 17:20

YANBU.

I may be wrong but I'd have thought if they didn't have proper permission for the gym/house, then the planning people may decide it has to be removed?

Good luck!

Onesunnymorningin2012 · 11/03/2012 18:22

Oh gawd, more buildings? Sorry no advice.

SuchProspects · 12/03/2012 19:24

Bump for the planning gurus.

Hope you get some satisfaction eventually MrsDeVere

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 12/03/2012 20:28
